Rio Iriri rapids, at the confluence of the Xingu. Habitat of Baryancistrus and Pseudacanthicus

Rio Iriri, just upstream of the confluence with the Rio Xingu. This large rapid is the location of the famous L177 Gold Nugget pleco, Baryancistrus xanthellus. Cichla melaniae, Hoplias aimara, Potamotrygon leopoldi (polkadot stingray), Retroculus xinguensis and Crenicichla dandara are all found here.
