Thanks Dave its an awesome product! If anyone has questions you can visit the website and send Dave an email. Also shipping is available worldwide on the Habistax!
Matt, that is EPIC for smaller aquariiums. The opportunities for rescaping are endless and so simple! I do hope we are able to get them in the US. Happy Saturday .
I am loving Habistax!! This is exactly what I need. I'm currently unhappy with my aquarium. I was dreading tearing it all up and starting again. However, now that I have seen Habistax I can't wait to redo my tank. This is perfect for me! My fish will be happier too. 🐟🐟🐟🐟🐟🐟🐠🐠🐠🐠🐠🐠🐌🐌🐌🐌 Gina
Hello from Missouri. As a cichlid keeper i can attest to the frustrating nature of trying to keep live plants in their habitat. Every single day I look to see what they dug up and thus need to be replanted, I agree that these can be a game changer. Great job Matt. I hope these get fully funded!
Been having a similar aesthetic in my favorite aquascape for year,😊 I used bamboo-reed roll-up curtain as underwater partition wall (as two larger fish weren’t getting along) , I planted it full on both sides. It looks amazing. Small fish just swim though it (as every other reed is removed). Habistax makes building such towering look (up &above water) easy, even with plants that need to reach the soil. 👍 Agree with other comments that a flat back wall option would also be cool addition & that empty open top middle can also be a place for sponge filter (or makes a natural baby fish sanctuary). ❤ Would buy one (or 6😂) for sure.
Great video Matt. I'm loving the plant towers. They can really take the guess work out of where to put what plants and make it really easy for knowing where and how to put the hardscape. This can really help with the nerve-wracking stress that goes along with scaping your tank. THANK YOU!!!!
Oh my gosh! I am soooo excited for this new product! I hope I am able to get in here in the USA! You blew my mind mentioning all the appropriate applications and scape options! And I live how it looks like a wall of variegated plants!
Matt, that planted tank concept makes it look professional and cohesive even for someone like me who struggles with designing a planted tank. I am going to try it. I have 5-40 gallon fish tanks in my home office. Thank you for thinking outside the box. Actually, watching you work on this before putting it in the tank is also handicap-able.
By the looks of that box, DHL is about the same quality in the UK as it is in the States lol Also, that’s a great concept for a product! That’s gonna be a game changer
Two things to say, i have seen these on another channel and i think i prefer your use of them. And secondly, have you alerted you sound recording lately? I's sounding a bit flat at the moment, last few vids, the music sounds full and rich but the spoken word not so much. Thanks for the upload with this interesting bit of kit
I love these other than if you cant afford to fully fill them out with plants you'll see the plastic until it does grow in. I'm a naturalist when it comes to my tanks so that would drive me crazy lol. I'd have to plant it %100 from the start.
That's clever. I have a tall aquarium, a Cleair, so that looks like a fab idea. If all goes to plan, what's the timeline looking like on these becoming commercially available?
Hi matt, Where can you buy this product? It looks so great also beautiful for a display at a fish store Hope to see you this year at vivarium in the Netherlands! Have a great weekend 💚
You could kick start cycles with them too. Keep some and once the bacteria is established, move one in to a new tank and bam, beneficial bacteria. I wish they were available in the States.
@@FishShopMatt I'm going to have to find it, i found the website for the habitrax but not the kickstarter website...i'm going to keep searching bc i want to do one somewhat short one filled with my different cabombas. And of course some others. lol
I never seriously considered breeding because I like fully planted and more natural tanks. The thought of trying to catch babies without ripping up the tank was unappealing. I may have to rethink it with these.
I can imagine instead of just round columns but elongate or make them like a clover/irregular shaped versions. Ever a shallower version for foreground plants maybe a two levels one layer then two off to the side yet attach as one this might imeven be good for epiphytes plants so the roots can get to the substrate inside the towers with the rhizome on the outside the tubes for buce, anubias and Java ferns. I see a lot of possibilities and potential. And by counting the opening in each tower you know how many pots of plants you may need when you go to the fish store or buy on line. I like the concept and the do look good. And with the holes in the tubes I could see the plants absorbing liquid fertilizer easier instead of using fertilizer tabs. Thanks fir sharing and I hope for good success for the designer but I see China copying the idea and mass produce at a lower price. Hope he has an international patent on them. But I am sure China will find a way around if it catches on.
Another advantage would be easy transfer to another aquarium. You could transfer a tower to a new setup to help the new tank have beneficial bacteria immediately so you don't have to wait for it to cycle.
I've said it before and I'll say it again, PLEASE TAKE US ALONG ON BUILDING OUT YOUR GARAGE. Thanks Matt! Love the enthusiasm, the process, and the final look.
If you leave the center substrate holder off, you can sink a small sponge filter. It would actively pull the water through the roots on the way to the filter.
Kentucky says hello y'all. I saved this unique video. Partly because I had to view it without sound so I didn't wake up my Husband. I appreciate your visual description. It worked out well for me and those who are hearing impaired would still be able to learn from you Matt. Have a blessed day my friend.
This concept but as a rectangle that is meant to fill up the back wall of the tank. Would make giving a tank some height in the back super easy. Going to support this product for sure.
This product is a great innovation for the aquarium hobby, but I'm thinking to take it a step further. Add a sponge filter concept, where debris is drawn in and trapped around the plant roots. The air tube could be where the aquasoil is kept, and then put the aquasoil where there's currently dead space. As long as it was full of plants, it's theoretically a sponge filter that never would need cleaning.
For those of us with brown (aquatic) thumbs, this has the potential to be a real game changer. I truly hope this takes off and becomes available to the average hobbyist. Thank you for taking a chance and sharing this build. Very exciting🙂
Man watching guys like you and MD setting up tanks with what seems like an endless supply of any and every plant in the hobby makes a regular aqaurists like myself really jealous. But i do love watching. These towers seem really intriguing.
I love the fact that you can move your plants to another tank without really upsetting them at all, great idea, much nicer than terracotta pots, especially for bare bottom tanks.
What an awesome idea! No more Cory’s sifting up the sand around my plants and up rooting the new ones! The possibility’s are endless, I hope they are available in Australia 🇦🇺
Sorry but this is a bad idea. Plants need light and you're never going to take advantage of the whole planter unless you use high light and put it in the middle of the tank. You also need to be on top of pruning and take into account plant height and growth rates when planting because growth will quickly drown out the lower plants. Vertical planters can work when you got the sun shining on them with everything that entails, but in an aquarium not so much. Get some pots/tubs instead, poke a few holes, fill them with substrate/plants and hide them behind your hardscape - much better result for a fraction of the cost.
I am daunted by live plants I like this idea, maybe a betta tank again, with clown loach sucker fish tetra's,,i am going to think about it after this video😊
Definitely gonna be watching out for this. Could also be great for growing plants for other tanks would like to how it would be taking plants off of them
Matt, I’m a Brit currently living in NZ, have kept fish for nearly 50 years yet only just, in the past 2 years, got into aquascaping thanks to you and MD…..and it’s going well. When I saw this Habistax product, I was blown away! What a great invention. I went straight over to the Kickstarter page and made an early bird pledge to support Dave in his venture. Without you urging or recommending others to support in Kickstarters, is there anything else you ( and maybe MD too?) can do to give this product more exposure. As in your video, it adds a number of new, fascinating aspects to Fishkeeping. Well done for making the video! Keep up the good work!
TBH I was skeptical at first.. I mean ugly black plastic in a tank?... but then after you planted them and added sand/hardscape, I WAS CONVINCED! Tons of practical applications for it. I've actually seen farmers a few years back growing plants vertical without soil and only coconut hairy thing and liquid ferts. Time to bring it to our hobby! cheers!
hey Matt how easy is it to add like root tabs to those towers once there's doubts can they still be pulled apart so you can place root tabs in different layers or is there like a small opening where it opens up like a little pill drop and you just pop it in and push it over to the center cause that would be a nice little feature.
You wouldn't really be able to get a root tab I'm there once it's built and planted. But to be honest with liquid plant food I think it would keep them going for quite a while. They really aren't that hard to pull apart and replant though. So every now and then you could take them out and give them an overhaul.
I bet for people who focus more on breeding rather than scaping these would make amazing bubble filters! I bet instead of putting in plant soil if you filled them with heavily crushed up larva rock or something similar for biological, some mechanical filtration and as a surface fir roots to grip. Plant the outside with epiphytes and then terrestrial plants at the very top like a Peace Lilly and a bubbler down at the very bottom it would act as a very good filter while providing more natural cover for the fish, make them pretty much silent as the bubbles have to travel through the maze of roots and rock making them smaller plus popping at the surface in contact with the terrestrial plant on top and not looking ugly too. All while being easy to move around and clean when removed from the tank (just flush out the central collum). Plus the current would be less dramatic for species that need very slow water movement (easily compensated fir species that need higher flow by adding in a separate pump to the tank. Plus can act as a shelter/feeding area for fry or shrimp with a higher surface area, due to the leaves, and be a potential spawning site depending on the species (pro or con depending how you run things).
This would be amazing as a flat wall plate. I spent ages faffing about with this plastic mesh strapping anubias nana petite for my kid's tank a few years ago (possibly have a picture of that tank on my community tab, it has a dinosaur skull in, definitely tasteful I promise 😂). Modular wall plates to go along the back of an aquarium /riparium or whatever would be cracking!
Ooh, could you remove these from the tank for easier and cleaner plant trimming? Maybe there's a way to attach handles of some sort so they're easier to lift in and out. Could be really handy for some people with disabilities or mental health issues. Very interesting product, thank you for sharing it :)
This is a really awesome design! I wish Dave all the success in the world with this product because I want to have more space for aquatic plants. I wonder if this would be good for planting in a tank with fish that tend to pull up plants from loose ground substrate.....

I hope so too! I'm pretty sure they are super committed to getting this released
Oh my, what a freaking awesome product!! So want one, or two, or three

I'm so glad you found it useful and easy to follow. Thank you!
I love the concept of this product. I wonder how well it’ll hold up
In a goldfish tank or a outdoor pond
Those are cool for sure. I would use one or more
This Look Awesome. I wouldn't know what plants to pick though.
There is a list that comes with it of easy to grow plants that suit the habistax.
@@FishShopMatt Thanks Matt.
Tbh I was a little skeptical at first, but I was surprised at how great it looked when finished. I really like the concept, and it's so unique

Hahaha yeah they aren't the best. I agree it is a game changer.
Mad but this is the kinda thing that gets me excited :D What a great idea

Thank you! Hmmm I've changed mics recently I will have a look into it.
Impressive and innovative.
Agreed! 👍
Nice idea!! hydroponics in an aquarium idea ;-) I use this idea on my balcony to grow tomatoes 🙂
I can see one of those covered in a carpet moss with a really chunky gravel in it for shrimp.
That would be a great place for baby shrimp.

Awesome stuff matt thanks for showing this product I've seen it a few times on Instagram looks pretty good
Yeah I'm really happy with how it came out.
Bloody awesome idea! I would love to see a ‘wall’ stax so I could have a planted wall at the sides or back of the tank! Great job 🇦🇺❤️
Watch this space Dave has some cool ideas!
That's clever. I have a tall aquarium, a Cleair, so that looks like a fab idea. If all goes to plan, what's the timeline looking like on these becoming commercially available?
It would work well. I think a year or two depending on the backing if you head over to the Kickstarter page they update it there.
Now we are talking! This is def my type of thing! I love this!
Im excited for this one to grow and fully mature. What a jungle this will become. Nice content again Matt.
I really like this and definitely would like to be able to purchase this.
Hi matt,
Where can you buy this product?
It looks so great also beautiful for a display at a fish store
Hope to see you this year at vivarium in the Netherlands!
Have a great weekend 💚
Thank you, at the moment it's running through a Kickstarter campaign linked in the description.
Would be so great for fishes that typically like to dig in sand like shell dwellers
Matt it looks fantastic and so simple, thank you.
Evening Matt pray all is well and family😊
Everything is amazing! Hope you're well too!
Brilliant
Très intéressant, merci pour la vidéo!
You could kick start cycles with them too. Keep some and once the bacteria is established, move one in to a new tank and bam, beneficial bacteria. I wish they were available in the States.

I never seriously considered breeding because I like fully planted and more natural tanks. The thought of trying to catch babies without ripping up the tank was unappealing. I may have to rethink it with these.
They would work so well for that purpose.
Do you know how to have red luwigia gain more redness?. I found some healthy but not really red.

How do you add root tabs when the nutrients run out?
My guess is take the top off the tower and push tabs down with long tweezers, after all it's only soil.
If they disguised the plastic as fake rocks/wood it would look even cooler
How does plants grow so good ? In low tech tank of mine plants melt away.. May I know your secret?!
Nutrient rich substrate, decent lighting and plant fertilisers. The more you do the more they grow.
This guy should also design a planter that’s modular for a back wall of an aquarium that would look awesome
Watch this space Dave has some cool plans.
Another advantage would be easy transfer to another aquarium. You could transfer a tower to a new setup to help the new tank have beneficial bacteria immediately so you don't have to wait for it to cycle.

You will all be coming along for the garage build most definitely!
At first I was questioning the product but after seeing the final version, my god Its such an amazing product
Me too.
I thought it would look less natural, but wow!
It really does look great.
Yeah I was really impressed with how it came out. When I saw the pictures of how Dave had planted it up I was sold.
Yea, I was thinking I could make that and then I thought....why would I bother. Habistax did
This would be great for a bowl aquarium. Especially one that would be viewed from all sides
It's set up like a strawberry planter.
I'm surprised how good it looks, and really interested in how much easier it'll make scaping.
Yeah it made scaping so so easy!
The addition of the Stones/Wood made a HUGE difference in the scape, and so simple too. Nicely Done
Yeah I can imagine someone having 3-4 different types of rock and cycling through them.

This definitely has lowered a mental barrier to aquascaping. Thanks for the detailed demo!
Hasn't it! Makes it so much more accessible
i like this. Dreaming about some kind of huge vase with this in the middle and a bunch of shrimp.
Amazing!!!
I love the fact that you can move your plants to another tank without really upsetting them at all, great idea, much nicer than terracotta pots, especially for bare bottom tanks.
Thinking of doing this in a classroom aquarium where components could be more easily interchangeable and students could assist, great ideas! 🤯

Nice one Matt! A game changer for sure though the traditionalists may not be so enthused...
Could multiple ones be used horizontally in a longer aquarium?
I’d be tempted to try nutibase in the centre and aqua soil where you put the gravel. Extra nutrients for the plants. Especially that many in one tower
Wow that would give the plants one hell of a boost and I think it's definitely doable.
@@FishShopMatt just think for long term - and with amount of plants - it would make more sense to- especially when first planting new plants.

Such a clever idea. It allows you to create hight without having to use five bags of substrate or heavy rocks
I'll need to redo my bow front, about 90 litre, but tall and slim, might be worth trying in that tank
