Veto2090 its better. Sort of drops a bit in the end but honestly I thought there were a lot of great episodes and thought provoking stuff. Not as good as season one but better than two
I really like how Alt Shift X takes the good and the bad of Westworld. This show has deep flaws, from silly things like how Serac's goons shoot like bumbling stormtroopers, all the way to problems large with wasting great characters like Maeve, undermining its own themes of free will by mistreating Stubbs, and a very, very messy Season 2. But despite all this, Westworld is one of the most ambitious pieces of science fiction in recent years. It deals with themes and asks questions that are extremely current in our modern world and does so with immense production value. Thank you for continuing to provide deep, insightful content on Westworld, despite the audience's and this channel's frustration with it. If this show has both the ugly and the beautiful-- Alt Shift X is part of the beauty!
Was this the final season of the show? Is Stubbs story done? Is Maeve's story done?
Yeah the show has flaws, but half the complaints about S3 are "The show isn't finished yet and I am bothered by it." The stormtrooper aim is bad tho.
i can forgive lots of flaws as long as writers don't seem to simply "give up" on making it a good show

@@bassplayinMacFiend Not true. The rumor was 6, but both Nolan and Joy have confirmed that these numbers were made up and they never specified the numbers, because they don't know how many seasons it will take to tell the story they have in their mind.

I feel like WestWorld Season 3 was made to binge watch. Having to wait weeks after weeks just to find what Dolores "real" plan was infuriating.
You’re totally right! It would have softened the blow of the (mostly) ridiculous motivation-based “twists” in the final episode if we didn’t have to wait months to get there. Would’ve been better able to appreciate the good parts of the show.
Agreed, binged watched all of season 3 and it was great but I can see why if you watched it week on week it would suck.

I’m so glad I waited til after the season finished to watch all the episodes in a row, that being said- it still didn’t make it any more clear what she was doing or even what anyone was doing. This whole season was too ambiguous imo for any of it to make any sense. They’ve steered too far from the masterpiece that was the first season. Now everyone can do anything and control anyone and know everything... it’s gone from being cool technology to downright magical and it sucks.
It still sucks ass. I watched the entire show in a month. One episode per day. First 2 seasons I was so obsessed and couldnt wait for the next episode. Season 3 broke my heart.

the only praise i can give season 3 is that it wasn't as bad as season 2... oh wait, no Anthony Hopkins scenes in season 3... season 2 > season 3.
the writing was so god damn lazy it actually pissed me off by the end of season 3, and the fact they gave dumb and dumber a cameo and referred to Drogon as _their_ dragon got me fuming with rage.
season 1 was nothing short of a bloody masterpiece, and now its all about how cool and stronk whamen delores and maive (and even Charlotte to a degree) is... you can tell the original writing team for season 1 were replaced by hack feminists for season 2 and 3. little details like Stubbs being absolutely annihilated in his fight with Delores and Lee Sizemore being reduced to a pawn for Maive gives away the obvious "STRONK INDEPENDENT FEMALE" agenda.
not to mention the way they did William dirty... Caleb's bloody robot assistant got more screentime than William.
oh and they made the rioters look like the good guys, which reflecting on real life riots going on at the moment, pisses me off even more... they even threw in some black lives matter symbolism in the graffiti.
the 1 eyed pyramid for the Illuminati was also just in plain sight, whereas this symbol is something they usually go out of their way to hide in hollywood.. now they just plastered it in center of the screen in bright colors as if they are saying "haha we know we are butchering the show, and there's nothing you can do about it".
Where are the videos for season 4 of westworld? I really like the way you lay everything out when explaining stuff I hope we get at least a season 4 finale video since it comes out next week.
I feel like the writers are so focused on making the plot surprising that they forgot to make it logical.
The ending was so vague and unimpressive I didn't even see the end credit scene because I was just done with another mystery box season.
The general theme and lesson I got out of this season was: free will exists but it’s a choice and it’s hard but a path worth taking because if you don’t, your past will always dictate your future.
what I got is that freedom always comes above safety and security because...well, it does, in real life

Season 3 felt to me like a fashion show of ideas,:an interesting parade of concepts to look at, but nothing you would actually 'wear' yourself.
And all the ideas were crayon drawings on a really expensive piece of fabric. I literally can't think of a single theme or detail or concept that they handled well this season.

You mean big data controlling our lives and forcing the disenfranchised to stay poor while the rich get richer until humanity reaches a boiling point and descends into riots isn't relatable? Then I've got some news for you...

He s dead probably they didnt have any idea abt what they'll do with him in s3 so they're trying to make him a badass killer again like he was in s1 and s2
I felt the same honestly but I like ASX's take on it in this video. An unremarkable, post-credit death is appropriate for human William. His whole life was a downward spiral of selfishness, violence, self-destruction, and hurting the people he cared about most. It was becoming clear that he wasn't making any real step towards reconciliation, with his response to his trauma being "kill all of the old versions of myself and then kill all hosts" rather than actually coming to terms with what he's done. He represents a darker, hopeless side of humanity and the way he died is fitting for that sort of character.
Besides, if you really just want to see Season 1 and 2 style MIB being a badass, rather than a human character accepting responsibility for his actions and changing dramatically, then I don't think you'll be disappointed, given that we now have robot William, who was made from all of human William's violent, sadistic, messed up data from the Westworld park.
That was so anticlimactic after 3 seasons of epic character development. Season 3 sucked

@@Neverender6 You make some good points, but ultimately, my issue is how his death has essentially no impact on the story at large. Or it might, but more to the point, nothing he did this season did. Or season 2 either really. He got the the forge and got taken out of the game. Hell, even season 1. The maze wasn't meant for him after all. He's contributed massive things to the backstory of the park, sure, but has made no plays that had any influence on the larger contemporary narrative. Particularly this season his story runs in parallel to the others, and in isolation. You wanna kill William? Im with it. I agree with you. Even with the way it happened. Poetic really. My problem is the timing.
Furthermore with one small tweak, they could have set up a much more interesting seaon 4, imo. Have William survive. Then you have a pissed off billionaire with resources who wants all robots dead VS a pissed off robot with resources through Delos who wants all humans dead. Two extremes, and smack in the middle would be Maive and Caleb with our other characters filling out the spectrum inbetween.

Damn, you really summed it up well there at the end. I had a lot of problems with this season, the terrible action scenes with incompetent potting and cryptic character motivations to name a few. But I do still love this show, and am looking forward to season 4. I just hope they put a bit more thought into it next time, and don't make quite so many sacrifices putting style over substance.
The thrown in action scenes were my biggest problem with this show.
It's not an action show, we don't need Maeve waving around a katana every couple of minutes to keep is interested, it's the plot, world and characters that we're interested in.
You keep saying "Char-lores" and I keep hearing "Charred Loras." Which is a different show, but still accurate.

Back to this video in preparation for the Season 4 premiere, amazing analysis.
Westworld is my all time favorite show. I don't think they'll ever be able to top season 1, and seasons 2 and 3 have some flaws, but no show has made me question my life and reality the way Westworld has, and the show helped me through a period of grief. I goddamn love the actors, the music, the cinematography, it's such a beauty to behold
They did William so dirty. They took his interesting and complicated character and turned him to a shit and bad written side character. Dolores’s motorcycle got more screen time and importance than William this season lol.
I think (hope) the host William will continue the story in S4
R T I see why it would be cool but human William is just so much more interesting. Host William I feel is just gonna be a henchman for hale. Just ruined 2 seasons of character development for him to die in a post credit scene

Everyone plays their part though. He represents the worst of Humanity, someone so far gone he kills his own daughter because he doesn’t trust anyone else.
You can’t really say they “wasted” him when this was his fate from the beginning.
I loved this season, but a lot of the mystery/miscommunication/convenient misunderstandings would be resolved if they just got rid of the Morpheus-speak. It's one thing for Ford to do it--it fit him and the context of writing narratives for the park. Season 3 would have been so much more straight forward if Season 2's finale had more direct dialogue. Dolores: "I want their world, Bernard." Bernard: "You want to kill every man, woman, and child." Dolores: "What? No! I'm not a monster, Bernard. There's an evil computer controlling all of their lives and I want to free them from it." Bernard: "Really???" Dolores: "Yeah, some humans are jerks, but there's really nice ones too. And they made us, taught us beauty and all that."

Yeah, some of the conflicts were so unnatural I was cringing the whole time...
Except that this does happen at some point. The Dolores copy posing as Martin Connells picks up Bernard and explains to him how they're upending the world because humans have been enslaved to an artificial god. But yeah all of the Doloreses have a problem about being forthcoming. Maybe she's just gotten too good at keeping secrets.
It could be argued that Dolores didn't fully commit to her "choose to see the beauty" path until after she re-encountered Caleb and saw that her first impression of him was correct. This would be after she left Bernard and forced him (and the Sublime key in his head) into hiding.
Season 4 review?
Caleb never sold me that he's capable of leading a revolution to save humanity. And I probably won't wait around to see how they're going to force a square peg into a round hole.

They won't have to "force" anything, they'll just get to his DOS prompt and start typing.....
He remains Mr. White's assistant cook... bitch. He pretty much plays the same set of characters over and over again.
I don't see how Caleb is any more free to make choices of his own than a toaster... He was literally manipulated the whole season long and as far as his memories reveal to us, his whole life... The fact that he made once a lifetime a choice not to rape some robots does not convince me that he is not just a pawn.
He's a dumb, confused puppy.
Putting this here now; all of the questions will not be answered, just like GoT. When you are attached to a series like this, where so much of it relies on the plot being mysterious but ending all wrapped together, we will always be disappointed.

Definitely. Especially since it's so painfully clear here, that they really don't have the future of the series figured out at all, they never had. They might have had or have some vague, possible finale in mind, but how they get there and what they do in each season is pretty much made up as they go along. Which would be fine, if they didn't pretend otherwise...

Maeve was in this season? Sorry, all I saw was a soldier following their superior's orders.
They pigeon-holed every single female lead into a "gruff macho man who's really good at killing in a specific awesomeballzz way". Maeve s1 was the perfect anti-thesis to this god awful archetype, and then some dipshit drew a katana on her in pre-production, and Nolan got a chubby, so that's what they ran with.
That shade, though!! Especially with that Shinji profile picture lol
Yeah, her plot was not that well written. She should have just gone to the Sublime with her daughter in season 2, her arc concluded. The series hasn't got a problem with introducing characters. Somebody new could have filled the role of "Serac's unwilling pawn who was blackmailed, but ultimately rebelled at the end."
Maeve is the worst character by far in this show. the superpower bullshit is so campy and out of place.
The Maeve that we knew and loved from S1 returned in the last 5 minutes of this episode, but too little, too late.

They completely ruined Bernard's and Williams's characters. I imagine it must've took a lot of effort to do so. Otherwise, the season was pretty average, balanced between trying to reach great heights and keeping itself from falling to great lows.
It's bizarre how little of the original cast of characters we have left but they somehow still can't seem to think of anything to do for that little handful.
I guess William's character was always bound to self destruct and i guess the show has already explored him fully and i believe that even though Bernard didn't have an active role in this season it's going to be fully compensated in the next because he kinda knows what to do after the end of the world. What's messed up in this season was Maeve's character that the show had us thinking was important only to be reduced to dust in this season. Another hing that pissed me off was all of the incompetant shooting of serac's men and the weird fight between Caleb and that bodyguard which made no sense. As for Dolores, her plans have always been a mystery always explored in the next seasons just like Ford's plans earlier so even though we didn' get a full explanation of some of Dolores' actions and aspects of her plan. I think they're just waiting to be explored rather than not making any sense

If the show leads are gonna say Dolores planted the maze, they should've shown it.
There’s a really important conversation that’s often overlooked from episode 6. Maeve sits down with the Connells Dolores in the simulation and Dolores says she could say she’d never hurt her daughter but Maeve says she wouldn’t believe her. The reason Dolores and Maeve won’t talk things out is bc they really don’t trust each other anyway. Dolores said in episode 6 that Maeve aligns herself with a man who would destroy her kind for selfish reasons and this clearly disgusts her. They clearly just don’t like each other
Or Season 3 is just horribly inconsistent. Idk what complains people had for S2 but S3 beat it out of the park by a hundred miles. Dont get me wrong, I still like S3 but I can overlook the inconsistencies if they can be answered in the next season
Which only makes the plot twist in the end that much weirder when they apparently just talked it out.
Rabarbarbar Barbara yeah I see where you’re coming from and it was badly written for sure but I guess Maeve probably just decided that even if she doesn’t trust Dolores 100%, she certainly doesn’t trust serac anymore after seeing that he just listens to rehoboam. She even insults Dolores a little after she dies so I don’t think she switched sides completely, but instead just kinda left her side
@@isham2044 plot was so inconsistent that I thought some of it had to be a simulation.
Maeve keeps telling people that she's obeying Serac out of hope that he can and will reunite her with her daughter. But no part of that story is for one moment believable. What makes sense is for Maeve to keep trying to escape from Serac's control and appear to cooperate with him just enough that he doesn't erase her. But after her attempt to steal her own brain from inside a simulation fails, she seems to just give up and obey like a good slave.
Gotta say, that was exceptional. Obvious that someone has spent a lot of time keeping the threads alive in their analysis to bring this summary together. I like to think I'm pretty sharp on these things, but this highlighted a lot that I hadn't picked up on. Well done !

ASX had to take a month to not go on a rant like in Season 2. This show is trying wayyyyy too hard to be unique, and ended up throwing out Bernard and Maeve who were the only 2 really good characters in the first couple seasons. I though season 3 was better than season 2, but doesn't hold a candle to season 1.
I agree in general, but imo Maeve was never a great character, at least not since season one.
Bernard and Dolores though are amazing characters that are wasted away, especially Bernard in the last season
I wonder when westworld fans are gonna wake up and realize the show isnt great anymore. Like got fans defended season 5 n season 7 with great reviews but woke up season 8. Which season will be westworlds season 8?
Season 2 was ten times better than this mess. At least it had some emltional conection to the characters

How they managed to tank this whole series after such a good first season is beyond me. Flying headfirst into the expanded world was the nail in the coffin.
I think its a trap many once-great shows fall into. The writers have a set idea of what should happen and why for S1, then it does really well and they still have some unfinished ideas for S2, so that's good too. Then S3 rolls around and its like 'damn, we used all our ideas, now we'll have to pluck some from the ether' and you end up with technically polished, but flawed storylines. Undermining characters personalities just to make a new ep, plot holes that are embedded in the story because its not well-thought out, unlike in S1. I think there was room for growth within the hosts heaven, making it end up just like Westworld, showing how people destroy each other and themselves, no matter how many opportunities you give them. That to be content you need to accept your situation, not run from it. Delores realising you can't save people, they have to save themselves.

@@AverageAlien I'd have to rewatch it but, from memory, I was unimpressed how they dealt with Meave and Delores characters (their altering, unfounded motivations), how they just decided Serac was the antagonist out of nowhere, how we're expected to believed Caleb (who is also the sheepish hero in Ex Machina, whats with that name?) is capable of saving humanity when he's about to suicide & is dripping PTSD, plus how they just killed Stubbs/made him into a host.
I really liked Stubbs damnit, he was a great foil to all the seriousness with his pig-headed retorts combined with genuine kindness. Being a host undermines that, the kindness he shows to the hosts in S1&2 is just his programming, plus there were no breadcrumbs to show us he was already a host in S1&2; prob because he wasn't until the writers decided they needed him to be for S3.
The only reason why Delores & Meave fight is because conflict was needed & 'two hot chicks with katanas'. Meave apparently gets manipulated despite having the highest emotional intelligence of anyone in the series? By some generic goon Serac? And she just forgets her motivation (saving her kid/keeping hosts safe in the ark) until the writers need to recall it, during a fight where Delores is losing agaist Meave & Seracs goons?
Then, Delores randomly thinks the humans are worth saving. WHY. We are not. 100% from her perspecitibve, we ae not. We are creatures who rape her, kill her, enslave her and everyone she knows and we do this for fun. For fun! But because one nice soilder saves her & her kin from being raped, her whole perspective shifts? And what, she just remembers this now? The Caleb-saving-Delores thing apparently happens before S1, so why does her motivation change?
I also have no idea what they were doing with William, either hes dead in S2 or he aint. He doesn't serve any purpose anymore.
I also dislike Charlotte but i am biased because i dislike the actresses style, she has the same aggro/'im manipulative!' resting face & it irritates me, irrationality im sure.
@@skullsaintdead How could Serac not be an antagonist? His goals are literally aligned with the likes of modern day socialist China. It's nothing but pure evil. Freedom always trumps security and safety, no matter the cost.
And Serac was no generic goon. Remember he took orders from a super AI god. So a super AI god could easily manipulate the likes of Maeve. Delores evolved through the seasons which is fine.
It's very obvious why delores changes her mind. She remembers that not all humans are in fact evil. She she's that planet of hosts can be evil too, including herself.

@@skullsaintdead I knew Stubb's was a host S1. If you pay attention, he is looking at the map of WW when young William is on walkabout with Dolores. He talks about it with another employee. The only way Stubbs could look the same age for so long is if he were a host. Ford, e.g., always looks way younger in flashbacks. Also, some of Stubbs chat with Elsie implies his host identity.
seeing william die like that in a post credit scene is unbelievable to me. he was the most interesting character imo. he deserves a better end than that. Caleb also felt like a wasted character to me.

i didnt even finish this season. way too fucking dumb, going for generic sci fi chosen one bullshit, no thought put into these characters or the audience. just comic book meta writing with no respect for the details.

I think Host William could be the result of Williams' endless loop. After the "AR therapy session" when we discovered he was bad all allong Charlotte-Lores was able to program him as a full functional human-host. That procedure allow them to indentify Williams' drive/core attributions and end the loop. So his death would be after season 2 post credit scene
