@@alecharveyfishingandflytying I tied some up, but only had black squirmy material and brown no red, anyhow the black did the damage today, 3 fish in 6 casts, the takes were savage! Thanks again Alec - The Serial Killer!!
Alec, this is a fantastic idea. Have not seen your channel before, but happily subscribed. Thanks for the pattern and idea, and keep up the excellent work. Merry Christmas.
I tied a few up and headed to Manningford.when I had 2 fish in 3 casts I thought I better something less successful or face goung home before lunch. I returned to it mid afternoon and had the fun of watching a browie follow it back and forth before taking it. Not a huge one but my first one at the venue. I've been fly fishing for nearly 15 years but due to c&r policy for browns where I usually fish I've never tasted one. I will now.
I am a kiwi, and will be spending an extended amount of time on the "Tekapo Canals" in the McKenzie country chasing rainbows, browns and salmon. I will let you know how I fair, in due course, its going to take me about a month to get there, as there are about 35 rivers along the way I will be whetting my lines in first. I do love the look of your vise minor stem, that tells us he TIES flies.
Thanks Alec. Will tie some up. Have you tried other body colours ? say glo brite 2 a fluo pink or number 4 a red colour ? Also if you weight it do you prefer lead wire or a bead ?
Complicated compared to a SJW. But in hindsight I see now that the focus wasn't so much as the worm pattern per se as the squirmy wormy material, which I haven't encountered in several decades of tying in the US. Interesting.
Hi Alec , will do . Right now the Madison River has gorging , the ice is 6’ thick and the river is at least a half mile out of its banks and it’s -21° now will be an excellent time to tie some up . But when spring arrives I will surly give them a shot . Enjoy the holidays
Hi. Alex. Great fly. And a great idea to make it replaced . I will be doing some for next season. Can u please tell me where you get your squirmy Worm material from. I can't seem to find a large flank of it like you show in your tying anywhere all seems to be small bags of it..
Hi Alec. How do you usually fish this. Straight line with a slow figure 8 or under the bung. Learned a load from your fly tying videos. Keep them coming please
Cheers James, I fish them straight lined on floating, midgetip and sinking lines, The weighted ones are deadly under the indicator. The next video out will be fishing with them 👍🎣🐟
I will have get some I have used the app worm and caught lots of fish on it fished on a floating line and stripped back fast sends them crazy also did you ever use a lure called a baby doll cheers
@@alecharveyfishingandflytying yes that’s how your meant to fish’s them I did that no luck so I fished just under the surface it was summer I had 16 rainbows from chatton lakes on them
Tied your original dressing and had great success with it, this hybrid with the app’s worm looks the business, I’ll definitely give this a go. Cheers Alec thanks for sharing. Regards Jimf 🏴
Came here thinking you were going to reveal the master's secret. Well you kind of gave your version of it except that it isn't comp legal. Still deadly effective and that's why it's banned from competition!
Yes it is my original replaceable method, Ben, and it makes squirmy worm tying with while as the worm can be replaced in seconds when bitten or snapped off. They are allowed over here in our competitions but not in the TEFF river internationals 👍🎣🐟
Alex, thank you for the patron you showed me . question do you fish with an intermediate line or a sinking line to bring this fly almost to the bottom. Have a good Christmas.
Cheers Gilbert , you can use all lines from floating to sinking lines with the 2 types of serial killers , unweighted and weighted, depending on the depth of water you are fishing , and what depth the fish are feeding at , you can also use it under an indicator to great effect. My next video out shortly is fishing them on one of my local lakes 👍🎣🐟
Love the absolutely pure GEORDIE!!!! Great pattern that I MUST TIE!!! Curious as to why - at 4.49 - when you cut the flexi-floss, you don’t just wrap the material back to the tail to form the rib, rather than tying in a whole new piece of the same material to the wrap it forward for essentially the same effect. Always trying to eliminate steps! 🎣🎣🎣🎣🎣🎣🎣
Cheers Mark , I have done that step with the rib , but it somehow seems to give it more bulk to the body , may be you can do it on yours and get it good 👍 Always a GEORDIE 🤣🤣 Get some tied up and let me know how you get on 👍
You can catch more trout by not fishing flies. Especially in stocked ponds like the one you’re in there. There are jigs that look just like that that you can fish and cast better on spinning tackle.
There's more to fishing than just catching fishing. There is how you catch the fish. The setting of a challenge. You could put a lob worm on a hook and catch even more fish than your lure but that would be to easy. It's about being sporting.

Looks Fishy!
Trout like it 👍🎣🐟
If the squirmy worm came in a much smaller diameter it could make an effective bloodworm pattern for 16 and 18 hooks.
Definitely Mark , it would be nice to find some with a fine diameter, it will be out there somewhere it's just finding it 👍🎣🐟
Nice pattern....Great method to keep the Squirmy material on the Hook

Cheers Malcolm, you can buy it off the Internet from Ali Express from China, its a reasonable price but takes about 3 weeks delivery 👍 🎣🐟
Hi Alec could you use Superglue instead of the UV gel?
Sorry you answered this in your SBS .
I don't use super glue Anthony. It's not good on Squirmy material 👍🎣🐟
Hi Alec. How do you usually fish this. Straight line with a slow figure 8 or under the bung. Learned a load from your fly tying videos. Keep them coming please

Seen this on a number of other videos.
You might have seen different body versions on my previous videos, I came up with this original replaceable method about 10 years ago 👍🎣🐟
Where you get the materials
Most fly tying shops keep flexi for the loops and rib and you can get the squirmy worm off the Internet, ebay 👍🎣🐟
I will have get some I have used the app worm and caught lots of fish on it fished on a floating line and stripped back fast sends them crazy also did you ever use a lure called a baby doll cheers

What is the actual color of the thread you’re using?
Globrite no 5 , hot orange Steve 👍🎣🐟

I tried this earlier . Why does your Globrite look like thread when mine goes on like 8 ply wool
Not sure why yours is like that Iain, is it Standard globrite no 5 ??
I bought the complete set of globrite last year but it looks more like wool than thread
Where did you get your UV light?
Got them off ebay years ago , from China 👍🎣🐟
@@alecharveyfishingandflytying Great pattern!
do you have a mats list?
Hi Kyle , it's all described as I am tying it in the video👍🎣🐟
