Tip for onion dicing: do the parallel/flat slices before doing the vertical ones.. then chop last Basically do the opposite of what she did for the first 2 steps of sicing the onion, then the third(dice) step last
I love Better Than Bouillon for the same reason. I can use just as much as I need, without the rest of it going bad in the fridge. And just as it says on the label, it's really much better tasting than any powders or tablets I've tried.
Onion, carrot and celery gives the broth such a clean flavor. When you add other veg, flavors start getting “muddy”. My mother used to make Danish style soup-dumplings instead of noodles and she always added that bay leaf! 😍
The onion, celery, carrot is pretty much mirepoix, that is the base of so many sauces and soups. It is a wonderful flavor. I have tried adding more veggies to "improve" the soup... and realized it was not as clean a flavor. 😎
I am so happy for a chicken soup recipe that does Not use rosemary. The thyme definitely seems like a much better choice of flavors. Supposed to be rainy and cool tomorrow - perfect day to try this recipe! ❤
This episode is a winner from front to back. Not only do I wanna make that bread, that would make a great corn bread to go with chili. Although I will argue there are some other brands of broth that are really good. Weirdly, one is Costco’s own brand and Pacific. Sometimes when I’m feeling sick, I’ll just warm up a cup of their chicken broth and drink it like tea. Anyway, I wanna make all these recipes, and Lawman, what a salad for a party! Yum.
I am so glad you showed how to make a Chicken vegetable noodle soup quickly. It is so much better tasting and better for you than soup out of a can! Plus that soup can be perfect without the noodles adding more veggies (roasted or fresh mushrooms, roasted garlic, diced parsnips, etc). Plus that spinach, gorgonzola and feta salad looks amazingly flavorful. Perfect to have in a soup and salad dinner!
I made this soup, and accidentally added too much spaghetti noodles, but it still tasted great! My husband and teenagers liked it , too! Thank you for posting this video and recipe.
The bread looks delicious. I've been watching this all day. I've had major surgery and can't do much else so it's a pleasure. It was watching Chicago pizza making and I got hungry so I ordered the pizza which I seldom do. When I can walk, I plan to make my own Chicago pizza.
I use my electric pressure cooker and they get tender or I boil the for some time in my crockpot. It’s worth the time to make the stock this way. The flavor is great.
Orzo is a great pasta to use. Cooking the pasta in the stock also adds a lot of starch and modifies the texture in a positive way. Plus adding a couple eggs mixed with a couple lemons worth of juice via tempering right at the end turns it into a delicious creamy soup.
I like to add a tablespoon or two of parmesan to my extra sharp cheddar to make the bread cheesier. And a good sprinkle of cayenne. Cayenne compliments the cheese flavor. Try it in a grilled cheese sandwich!

“Big gaudy jewelry and bright lipstick” is my new quotable quote. What a hoot! My sister doesn’t cook, but loves to watch the show because she loves the cast.
Although a true bone broth chicken soup is the best, fast and simple chicken soup like this is a great time-saving trade-off. The only thing I do different is mince up the skin and add it to the soup because it really is delicious and very healthy.
I am definitely going to try making the beer batter bread. It just looked so yummy on the video, I wanted to reach into the screen and grab a piece 😁. I am also going to try the chicken soup, for it’s easy prep and creating a wholesome meal in thirty minutes vibe.🙂I really enjoy the history segment as well with it’s very informative content. I have used “ better than broth “and it is way more practical, with no wastage like I had in the past when I used to buy broth in tetra packs. Thank you so much for a great video
I just made the soup recipe today, and it was to die for. I did make some adjustments. I used better than boullion first off, I used all chicken thighs, I added a cup of frozen broccoli, and I didn't have fresh thyme, so I uses a quarter to a third a tsp of dried thyme in a tea diffuser. I don't think any of those are grand departures, and the soup was fantastic! 👌
Excellent video. Thank you for sharing it with us. I would make one suggestion regarding bases. We have tried so many different bases, from dry base to a paste. If you have to have a Gordon's food service near you, test the Gordon's brand beef, chicken, and vege bases. You will more than likely have a new recommendation. That spinach salad with pear dressing looks absolutely delicious. I will try that myself.
The soup was amazing, the recipe is a keeper. I suffer from migraines and MSG is a huge trigger, so I had to give up the fabulous Better than Bullion. Thankfully I can use the Swanson's organic chicken broth (only organic), which has wonderful flavor. Or I have to make my own. As for the Beer Bread....not a hit in my household. Husband and 22yr old daughter weren't fans, and I have even stronger feelings. The beer flavor is incredibly strong. I've had beer bread before, but you didn't really taste the beer. This is BEER bread, it's the main flavor. The cheese and chives were wonderful, cooking in the cast iron made it so perfect on the outside, and the texture of the bread is really very good. It's just that overwhelming beer flavor that I kept tasting for a couple of hours afterwards as well.
ATK, Hello, JULIA that was my grandmothers chicken soup, but earlier in WW2 times, she would have a squab,or 2 for that soup, dad had raised them for sport & food, now THAT CHEESY BEER BREAD LOOKS REALLY PROMISIONING Thanks for ALL, 🇺🇸🇺🇸🇺🇸🇺🇸
Fried chicken skin, my favorite, even after boiling in soup. With enough time of boiling, the skin could become very soft, smooth, and incorporate the additional flavor of the soup. Very enjoyable.

You can make dehydrated broth at home and keep it in the freezer for months. There are many recipes around; this way you know what you're putting in it.
This chicken noodle soup looks very tasty and I can’t wait to make it just by following this video. However, as I have less of parsley and more cilantro in my inventory, I will use the cilantro in lieu of parsley; both the stems & leaves are used; the stems are cut more finer than the leaves. I also plan to make variations including beef, seafood, and duck following the video instructions and substituting beef (for beef noodle soup) or seafood (for seafood noodle soup), but if I do use the duck (cut in the same way as the chicken), I prefer to not add any broth and use water instead as it’s impossible for me to get an actual duck broth from a regular supermarket. The whole video contains basically what I think I should eat for lunch or dinner, including chicken noodle soup, hot chocolate, and the salad mentioned.
I can't wait to try these recipes Here's a question or two, I already have a 12 inch skillet. Can I use that and if so how long would I bake it? Question #2 I'm not a beer drinker so a brand recommendation would be great. Thanks.
Looks like a solid recipe, but I still love ATK's pressure cooker chicken noodle soup, it's on my regular winter rotation. So easy even when I'm pressed for time. And I love Better Than Bouillon, I just counted my jars and I have 7 different flavors in my fridge door right now. I make bean soups quite often and I'm always adding a teaspoon or so of the ham base to the pot.
I am definitely with you on the pressure cooker chicken soup, but I find that the broth needs a little extra chicken flavor for my taste. I have been using Better Than Bouillon roasted chicken base, which works well. But today, while watching this chicken soup being made, I wondered if browning the chicken with the diced onions might provide the extra flavor I have been looking for. It might require a bit more prep work to break the whole chicken down into pieces to be browned, but I am going to give it a try next time.
Love to watch ATK and love many of the recipes they feature! Question does the cheesy bear bread has to be done in a cast iron skillet or can it be baked in a 10" cake pan?
Good Afternoon, I love so many of your recipes in your videos. But I do have a question? I am a Latter-Day Saint. I do try so hard to stay within our Church’s tenants of no alcohol. For your bread, will beer? Do you have a substitute that can be used and still give you the properties that the beer provides for the recipe? Thank you, 🌹😷
I would use seltzer water. But you can use any soda. Diet sodas tend to be weird for cooking. Technically you can use broth, but it won't rise as much.
How about garlic? I saw a filmed segment on Sesame Street from the early seventies, when a Pureto Rucano mother and daughter went to their neighborhood grocery store in NYC to pick up a nice chicken and sone rice. She also purchased, green peppers, onions, garlic, carrots and potatoes. She added the chicken in separate portions or in parts In a large pot filled with tap water and table salt and cooked the chicken. She then added the vegetables. I always found this interesting. You can search the Sesame Street segment called Chicken Soup.
Serious question. Is there any thought to recipes for those of us who are in Chronic Kidney disease? Any thing that I see on your program, which I love by the way, I have to tweak. I can use the techniques, but that is about all. Still, I love the show.
I make my own chicken stock and my own pasta. Among other things, I know exactly what goes into the stock. Making my own pasta means it cooks in a minute or so.
"SAMGYETANG" is the classic Korean chicken soup. So good and very healthy. "MEYUKKOOK" - Seaweed soup in Korea is classic with beef, not with chicken. Just want to clarify this.
