    Gee, I was expecting to see lots of spiders and cobwebs and those tiny basement windows that are always really dirty. You sure have it together. What a great workspace. Thanks so much for showing us what goes into the process. So glad there are people like you who have a real passion for it. Thanks again.

      I hear that - I think it's worth saying there's room for everyone, even in an oversaturated market like yarn dyeing. The key thing is to niche down on your own style, brand, and aesthetic ... and not be afraid to put your work out there. If you've at least got that down, I say go for it! 😄

    So I fell down a rabbit hole today while looking for masks, and as I understand, the filters you use protects against gas and vapors but not dust and particles. So it’s not actually affective against the dust from the dye powders. You can get filters to clip onto the gas filter or an “all-in-one” filter if you want to be protected from both dust and gas/vapors.
    I hope this doesn’t come of as a I-know-better-lecture - I just want you to be safe ❤️

      I like using the sifter because it creates finer speckles. Before, I was just carefully speckling with a measuring spoon, which made for bigger speckles. It really comes down to personal style/preference :)

    Do you have any issues tripping breakers with all of those burners? I’m trying to get a small dyeing space going and I’m trying to figure out the logistics of plugging in a few burners.

    • @Voolenvine
      @Voolenvine  4 роки тому +4

      Admittedly, it's a bit of a juggling act. I plug a few burners into one surge protector and then plug each into outlets on different circuits. As long as I keep the burners on their lowest setting I'm in the clear. The water only needs to heat up enough for there to be steam rising off the surface of the water. :)

    • @Voolenvine
      @Voolenvine  4 роки тому

      I dye 2 skeins at a time, but it really comes down to your style or the effect you're going for. For me, it's just efficient. One thing to keep in mind are yarn weights. For example, you don't need as much dye for 2, 50g skeins of mohair compared to 2, 100g skeins of yarn. So if you wanted, you could dye 4 skeins of mohair at a time! ;) Best of luck to you, Kristen! :D

    • @kristendussault
      @kristendussault 4 роки тому

      @@Voolenvine Thank you for your advise! So Im assuming you feel like the two skeins obtain the same color even though they share some space. I wonder how people dye in bulk because most "how to" videos only show 1 skein at a time. I'd love to see how you speckle with 2 skeins in the single pot and ensure they both still look similar in the end.
