The video today was awesome. So much work is done for such beautiful yarn. You do have such beautiful yarn. have a great day.
Your plant is a polka dot plant and it looks fabulous! The humidity and warmth in that room looks like the perfect atmosphere.
Gee, I was expecting to see lots of spiders and cobwebs and those tiny basement windows that are always really dirty. You sure have it together. What a great workspace. Thanks so much for showing us what goes into the process. So glad there are people like you who have a real passion for it. Thanks again.
Your dungeon is more like a palace! So light and roomy. I am enjoying how you are switching up the videos.
Errr yes? I would love to come hang out and keep you company 😁😁😁
Wow, this was fascinating to watch. I know nothing about the yarn dyeing process, so thank you for sharing….
Oh man, that was great! Loved the intro with you donning your apron and the slow mo - so fun! You're a pro in so many ways...and it was nice to see how your workspace flows and to get a feel for your day to day in the dye dungeon. Thanks for sharing, Laura xo
I just love the opening sequence. I'm not even 2 minutes in and had to pause it so I could comment right away! Stunning filmography x
Love your DUNGEON!! Perfect place
Thanks for the tour! I would call your plant a Polka Dot Plant, very pretty.
So interesting! Thanks Kristen! 💗
This was certainly an eye opener as to the amount of work that goes into dyeing/making these skeins of yarn. Phew! Thanks for taking us along on a mini tour. Best wishes as you forge ahead with your business which is also your passion. 👏👏💐
Thank you, Misty!! 💖💖💖
Thanks for the tour of the dungeon. I’ve always wanted to dive into the deep end of dyeing yarn but fear I’d sink straight to the bottom. It’s fun to see your behind the scenes. 🐑
I hear that - I think it's worth saying there's room for everyone, even in an oversaturated market like yarn dyeing. The key thing is to niche down on your own style, brand, and aesthetic ... and not be afraid to put your work out there. If you've at least got that down, I say go for it! 😄
Voolenvine Kristin...you are very kind. Thank you for your words of wisdom and encouragement.
Major respect to your dyeing skills and...your photography you post over on IG. You could do a Master Class on both 🧶 📸 🐑
That was so cool to see! Thanks for the tour!
Awesome tour, you have a great set up!
Thoroughly enjoyed the tour of your work space!
Thank you for giving us a tour of your workspace that was really cool!
So cool! Thanks for sharing!
Love, love, love this video!
Excellent space to work in. so use-able.
Wow that’s a ton of work! Fun to see where the magic happens 🤩
Thanks, I love seeing people's work space. Have a good one until next.
Thank you so much for sharing your work space where so much magic happens! I loved the intro! It was very Edwardian, very Downton Abbey Dyeworks: "Will Kristen be able to dye enough yarn in time?!? Will the village be able to receive enough yarn for the annual Yarn Fête?!? Will the latest colorway meet with the Dowager's approval?!?"
Very cool!
Very nice.. Love the music.....
Thanks for the tour of your dye dungeon..loved seeing your work space.
Loved it! Slow motion effects were great!!!!! 🖤
Amazing workspace... love to see a dye day ! Your yarn is beautiful
Kristin, Thank you for the tour. I really enjoyed seeing your studio where all the yarny magic happens.
That was so much fun to watch. You are so organised and the yarn you dye is beautiful.
It was a fun tour of the dye dungeon. Thank you 💜✨🦄
I really enjoyed seeing where the “Magic” happens😉❤️
Love the dye dungeon. I’d love to come visit and help you with your work!
What a beautiful video! I really appreciate the hard work you put into your yarn ❤
Lovely video, educational and your space seems so organized and clean!
That was so beautiful! 😍 - the slow shots, oh my gosh!! Thank you for sharing a slice of your life! Kristin, you are a one woman powerhouse!
Thanks, Janet!! Having way too much fun shooting 120p! 🤓
Voolenvine seriously, the first portion could be a standalone commercial. So good!
Loved the inside view of your work space! Thanks for letting us see what it takes to dye yarn.
Really enjoy your aesthetic 🧶
Thanks for the tour of the dye studio. I found this interesting. I love the garden as well so neat, clean and big for Brooklyn.
Thanks so much, Porsche! I can't take credit for the garden. That's my husband's work! 😄
Great video. 😊👍
Gosh, you are a talented young lady, I found this very interesting! Thanks for giving us a peek into your artistic process!🙏
Great podcast! Love the dungeon! You work so hard, thanks so much.🤗👍🏼 Garden is very nice.🌹
Thanks so much! 😅💐
Thank you for taking the time to do this! It was really interesting and appreciate the process much more now. It really is a full time job and seems very rewarding making so many yarn lovers happy! Stay safe 😊♥️🙏
😊💖💖💖
Love the slow motion intro!
Dye dungeon...how fortunate to have a great space to work at home but not home. Perfect thank you for sharing.
Thank you, Sally! I feel VERY fortunate. Having a dedicated space makes all the difference. 😄💖
I have the same tea kettle 😊
Lovely tour, thank you! I'm surprised that you don't have an electric skein winder...Loving the Mozart music. :-D
Amazing Space - lucky girl!
Its a full apartment.
So interesting. Thank you for this little glimpse into your world. Questions-do you always dress so fancy for dying? I would slop dye all over myself and ruin my clothes. What made you want to start dying in the first place? How long does each batch take? How many can you dye in a day? And yes I would love to see a brief dye tutorial. Kinda a “how it’s made”. Thank you so much. Your yarn is beautiful.
I have that same desk :D Good old World Market!
Awwww yeeeeah!!! 💯💯💯 I LOVE that desk.
ok, that's super interesting :o
I love this recording of that Mozart quartet! Who is playing? It fits your victorian aesthetic even more then the midi file Ravel quartet excerpt in the regular vlogs! Thank you for the huge inspiration and for feeding our curiosity of showing us where the magic happens! xx
Thank you, Marina! I found the recording from EpidemicSound.com ... they only label it as "traditional" and don't name an artist. 🤔
It’s just so easy to look up the pronunciation of words on Google!
Wow a space like this starts at 3.5k a month where I live.
Those are some Icelandic sheep YAY! And the name of their farm Hvoll (I dare you to try and pronounce that correctly ha ha) Knittingwishes from Iceland
So I fell down a rabbit hole today while looking for masks, and as I understand, the filters you use protects against gas and vapors but not dust and particles. So it’s not actually affective against the dust from the dye powders. You can get filters to clip onto the gas filter or an “all-in-one” filter if you want to be protected from both dust and gas/vapors.
I hope this doesn’t come of as a I-know-better-lecture - I just want you to be safe ❤️
Very interesting hope you tell us why you started dyeing yarn.
Yikes, Kristin! I gasped when I saw you working in that lovely dress. You must be incredibly careful with those dyes or have a wardrobe death wish. Enjoyed the video and love your color aesthetic. nycSox
Love your dye dungeon!!! It’s so Kristen!
Thanks so much, Brittany! 😄🖤
Enjoyed your video ! Where do you get your packaging when mailing yarn skeins?
Thanks! Uline.com for clear wrapping and eco-enclose for polymailers. Amazon, if i'm in a bind ;)
If you don’t mind me asking, where do you get your yarn label wraps printed from? I love your work studio!!
Thank you for giving us this guided tour through your awesome dye world! :-)
Could your houseplant maybe one that they call "polka dot plant"?
Possibly.... I'm just happy I'm able to keep it alive! 😂
The plant is called a peperomia. :) And she looks beautiful and healthy.
Hi there! Would it be possible to know what is the softbox light you are using?
That was fun, thank you! I was wondering what happened to Emily though...
Emily no longer works for me. She was a wonderful help but I realized I wanted to be 100% hands-on with my business. We parted on good terms!
@@Voolenvine thanks, good to hear! I heard the good terms in your video already but had been wondering about it.
Polka dot plant♡
Is there an advantage to using a frit sifter (glass powder sifter) for speckling or is it just what you had on hand?
I like using the sifter because it creates finer speckles. Before, I was just carefully speckling with a measuring spoon, which made for bigger speckles. It really comes down to personal style/preference :)
Thanks for the tour. What white markers/pens do you use?
Fine Tip Metallic pens I found at Target! www.target.com/p/8ct-fine-tip-metallic-markers-hand-made-modern-174/-/A-53082693 Fine Tip Sharpies work great, too :)
@@Voolenvine Thanks for the link.
Do you have any issues tripping breakers with all of those burners? I’m trying to get a small dyeing space going and I’m trying to figure out the logistics of plugging in a few burners.
Admittedly, it's a bit of a juggling act. I plug a few burners into one surge protector and then plug each into outlets on different circuits. As long as I keep the burners on their lowest setting I'm in the clear. The water only needs to heat up enough for there to be steam rising off the surface of the water. :)
Voolenvine thanks so much! That is super helpful!
Hi! Thanks for the cool insider video!Do you wear a respirator the whole process or only when you are putting dye on the yarn?
I try to wear it as much as possible - but mainly when I'm standing over the dye pots. Vapors are no joke! I definitely notice a sensitivity when I'm exposed to them.
@@Voolenvine Okay thank you for the info! Much appreciated.
@@Voolenvine What is in the dyes that causes the sensitivity? Does that mean none of the dyes are natural?
Thank you for sharing. How much info do you put on our labels.
Glad you enjoyed, Deborah! 😄 Logo, website, fiber content, yardage, meterage, grams, yarn weight, care instructions ... and Bob's your uncle! 😉
@@Voolenvine thanks so didn't seem like that much. Love the look of your labels. Debs down under.
@@feltlikeitbydebs It seems like a lot of info spelled out ... but thankfully numbers don't take up much real estate. 😁
Thank you for this! Do you only dye 1 skein per pot at a time? Im just starting to dye so I am trying to learn as much as I can.
I dye 2 skeins at a time, but it really comes down to your style or the effect you're going for. For me, it's just efficient. One thing to keep in mind are yarn weights. For example, you don't need as much dye for 2, 50g skeins of mohair compared to 2, 100g skeins of yarn. So if you wanted, you could dye 4 skeins of mohair at a time! ;) Best of luck to you, Kristen! :D
@@Voolenvine Thank you for your advise! So Im assuming you feel like the two skeins obtain the same color even though they share some space. I wonder how people dye in bulk because most "how to" videos only show 1 skein at a time. I'd love to see how you speckle with 2 skeins in the single pot and ensure they both still look similar in the end.
Hi Kristin love your podcasts. May I ask the size of the reskeiner you have? I'm not sure to order the 2 yard or the 3 yard. Yours look perfect size for me so I hope you don't mind me asking. Cheers from Australia
Thank you so much! ☺️ I have a 3 yard reskeiner by Crazy Monkey
@@Voolenvine Thank you Kristen much appreciated. Have a great day.
Do you dye in the blue hues, like denim, turquoise, navy? I've bought all of the greens, browns and purple colors.
I'm not really drawn to blues, so I don't dye much of that shade. Does that make me an irresponsible yarn dyer? 🤔😂 The colorways I dye that are closest to blue are "Dead Calm" and "Thaw". :)
@@Voolenvine I saw Thaw listed...I need some!
Wow what is in the dye to make it so that you need to wear a respirator, have an extractor fan and have the place covered in plastic? I'm guessing the dyes aren't very natural...
💞💞💞💞💞💞💞💞💞💞💞💞💞💞💞💞
I thought you would have had an electric skein twister?
Nah. Manual FTW! 😉
That's not Murphy's law.
