The kitten had what is known as a "fever coat", which means its mother was either sick or stressed out while she was carrying him. As the kitten grows up, its coat will change into the color the kitten was meant to have.
I've had black cats all my life. But never leave them outdoors both a week before and a week after Halloween. Your neighbors may be OK but don't count on their teens. They can be very cruel.
