Arnold Schwarzenegger got this role because his agent told higher ups involved with this movie he had years of stage experience, thinking it was theater, but it was actually bodybuilding stages

Schwarzenegger credits comedy legend Lucille Ball with salvaging his show business career. After this fiasco, she saw him on the Merv Griffin show, and thought he had natural charm. She cast him in "Happy Anniversary and Goodbye", with herself and the great Art Carney. He played a masseuse named Rico. Lucy Ball liked him, and because she had such clout as a massive TV star, it opened some doors for him.
Speaking of having a gimmick, Arnold was already a millionaire by the time he tried to get into movies thanks to his businesses gimmick. He had a brick laying business and he scammed a bunch of rich people into over paying by branding what his company did as "European bricklayers and masonry experts" even though the work he was doing wasn't any different than any other brick laying company. It worked though because Arnold hired only body builders to do the work and word got around about his company. Big novelty in having the dudes working on your house all looking like Arnold did at the time.
I personally am not a fan of that movie either. It's fine for a kids movie though and I loved it as a kid, but would of prefer if they made Zeus more evil than Hades.
Y'all need to watch the Hercules movie starring Lou Feriggno in which he had a fist fight with a bear and then FREAKING THREW HIM INTO SPACE and exploded, becoming the constellation Ursa Major, AKA the Big Dipper or "Big Bear".
I am not that big a fan of the so-bad-it’s-good genre (I use channels like DT for “they watch it so I don’t have to”), but let me tell you, I remember being a teen seeing that scene with Lou Ferrigno and the bear, and thinking it was one of the most hilarious movie moments ever (whether that was the intent or not). I laughed my ass off.
You have to realize that when Arnold did this there were very few people on the planet that looked like him because body building wasn’t as well known.
The filmmakers clearly never meant for Arnold's voice to be heard as Hercules. But then, he became one of the biggest movie stars in the world. haha It was honestly kind of a dirty trick on everyone involved, that Trimark ended up releasing the version with Arnold's original dialogue, three decades later. But for the viewing public, it's a great blessing! 😆
Arnold Schwarzenegger is actually really humble and honest about where his success came from, largely thanking all of those who surrounded him and helped build him up and guide him throughout his different careers, saying that he would never have made it without the help of so many people. Very gracious, down to Earth guy in spite of some of his odd decisions and personal scandals. Also, this movie is DEFINITELY bad. Buuuut, to play devil's advocate, Arnold wasn't reaaaalllly fluent in English at this point...
I literally just watched this movie with a friend of mine the other day and we laughed our asses off the whole time. I think I might have laughed more during this review here than I did during the original movie 😂😂😂😂
Charisma, and the willingness to think outside of the box. Create your own brand and get rid of traditional ways of thinking. Talent is only in the eye of the beholder. Arnold lived by that code always.

19:52 LMAO 🤣😭 Thank You for pointing that out! I’ve watched at least 40 UA-cam reviews on this movie & you’re among only a few who catch that, most miss it somehow.
And I’ve never noticed just before that when the John Candy looking guy avoids Arnold “like his high school bully” haha I can guarantee you’re the first youtube review to catch that! Great Job Guys! This is why y’all are my favorite! 🤣
Success in Hollywood seems to be more about marketability than pure talent. If a studio can make a ton of cash from marketing you to audiences, you’ll be a star. It would help to have actual ability. But, that’s not a hard requirement. The best, most current example of this is Dwayne Johnson. He cannot act. It does not matter.
I never even knew this movie even existed. What's bad about this is I was a huge Arnold fan as a Kid And I thought I've seen all his movies But I guess that's a good thing😂
To be fair on his intelligence. Hercules is from a world era where English speech was at it's most basic start of concept.😅 So too much fancy talk of later eras would be advanced for him.
I remember first saw this movie late at night on TV after they showed The Terminator several years ago. I was looking forward to watch it back then hoping it would be entertainingly bad. It's not. Boy, this movie is terrible. I'm convinced that this film was initially a porno with all the sex scenes edited out. I can understand why Arnold is so embarrassed by this movie nowadays.
One of my favorite movies on my favorite UA-cam channel! Double Toasted but Never Burnt! Honestly Arnold’s Got Talent, he’s the exact opposite of a Nepo Baby. Arnold worked hard to get better after the failure of Hercules. Love You Guys! 👏

Korey comparing Arnold to Nepo babies is so wrong on so many levels. Arnolds story is antithetical to what nepotism is Arnold is not only an inspiration but a living embodiment of the American dream. He was disowned by his own family for not sharing his father's beliefs (ex-nazi) he came to the US as a migrant from nothing and he had nothing. Yet through hard work he not only became a famous actor but later he even became a governor. Yea his acting initially sucked, but he did put in the effort to improve his acting abilities. He might have been hired initially just because of his look, but he wasn't born with that body, he literally had to work his ass off to gain that body. The thing about being lucky in getting a good agent and connections to gain good roles is one thing everyone not just actors has to go through. It is rarely just talent that makes one become famous. But it is something entirely different to maintain that fame after you get those initial roles. If Arnold didn't have a talent to charm the audience movies like Conan would be a flop like the majority of 80's fantasy movies and Arnold would have faded into obscurity.

The Lou Ferrigno Hercules movie was better, but not by much. It stayed with the fantasy sword stuff but ended in a space fight where he and the villain turned into constellations. I was a kid when I watched both of these movies and Lou's was better.

Arnold Stane was also the old guy who was freaking out at Bill Cosby in Ghost Dad.
I will always associate him as Top Cat since out of all his roles, it was the one that made him sound like a cool tough guy.
I knew him as one of the gas station workers Jonathan Winters fought in It's a Mad Mad Mad Mad World.
Pumping Iron definitely saved his film career... as it allowed film producers to see his natural charisma and what kind of roles suited him best...

Ain't Pumping Iron was a Documentary?.
It is a documentary but Arnold definitely took the spotlight. He was charismatic even more than Lou Ferrigno (who was also in the documentary).
Yeah and Pumping Iron 2 had "Moments In Love" by Art Of Noise as part of the soundtrack.
