  • We went to the HOTTEST place and the ONLY desert in Canada. Osoyoos is a small town located in the Okanagan Valley, south of Kelowna the biggest city in the region. There’s plenty of fun things to do in Osoyoos, whether you're feeling adventurous or prefer to relax and enjoy Canada’s driest climate. Book a tour of the Osoyoos Desert Centre: bit.ly/3F8UOnh
    To kickstart our Okanagan Series, we started our adventure by driving 5 hours from Vancouver British Columbia to Osoyoos situated just above the USA border. Osoyoos is home to Canada's only desert environment with some of the warmest annual temperatures in Canada with the lowest rainfall, the highest temperatures, and also the warmest freshwater lake. Having this warm sunny climate, the area around Osoyoos is one of the most productive fruit-growing orchards making the South Okanagan the fruit basket of Canada. Osoyoos is also absolutely scenic, from the rugged dry hills and surrounding mountains all the way to the rolling vineyards and sandy lakeshore. It was our first time in Okanagan and we didn’t even know that we have places like this in British Columbia!
    The first place to go to in Osoyoos was the Spotted Lake, containing one of the world’s highest concentrations of various minerals with therapeutic waters to alleviate aches and pains. During summer the water evaporates and crystallizes, making the spots visible revealing colorful mineral deposits. The lake is on private land and is therefore not accessible by the public, but we got a good view of it from the highway.
    One of the must visit places in Osoyoos is the Osoyoos Desert Centre which is a 67 acre facility that preserves the desert ecology. Good thing it was too hot to be outside for the wild desert animals to come say hi to us too. And we think we were the only ones crazy enough to walk around Canada’s desert during British Columbia’s record breaking heatwave! Mind you it was 40+ degrees Celsius every single day throughout that week. Just goes to show that nothing can stop us if exploring new places is on the table. Osoyoos is very dry and arguably the hottest place in Canada!

    You can wade across the lake from Haynes point. Used to be campgrounds across from the point.

    There are very few jobs around Osoyoos, not so good for younger people but since half the town seems to be ' older ' but I guess it's great for retirees. It's a beautiful part of the world though.

    You seem to like ice cream shops. Next time you’re in Penticton or especially when in Oliver, stop at Tickelberry’s

    Suggestion: Another large desert centre is at Spirit Ridge winery & resort, the Nk’Mip Desert cultural Centre. Lastly there is another beautiful beach area to see, at the Walnut Beach Resort

    This was amazing and brave! I hope you all are okay! I had no idea there was a dessert in BC! I was definitely familiar with the sacred lakes. I watch a documentary series on APTN about First Nations sacred lands and they featured it last weekend! I believe they said there are exactly 365 of the little lakes and are reported to hold healing energy! I started following your IG but was wondering if you have a website/blog as well?!

    • @NatandMax
      @NatandMax  3 роки тому +1

      We’re okay😊 It was just hard staying under the sun long.
      Yea we debated if we should fly our drone over the spotted lake which one of the protected lakes by the first nation. We decided to just respect it and just film by the gates😊
      We have a website!🙌 natandmax.co/
      The blog is still under development😊

    My summer home is here, you missed trying the Cholula ice cream, you said you like spicy.
    Come in 2023 and 2024 and the vineyards are dead, due to Jan. cold snaps, a peach in 2024 will probably sell at auction if you can find one, my starting bid is 5K. Seriously no peaches this year.

    Hate to break it to you… and much love for you Osoyoss, but Lytton bc holds the record, and sadly burnt down in the process of holding it. Osoyoss is the sixth hottest in Canada.

    Not "only" desert in Canada, there is also one in Yukon (Carcross Desert)

    • @carboncomplex
      @carboncomplex 2 роки тому +1

      Carcross Desert is called a desert but it is not a desert it just looks like a desert - it is just sand dunes from a glacier .
