Let me just add that taxes=theft, as they are not voluntarily, and the main reason, or one of the main reasons why Satoshi Nakamoto invented BTC(first crypto) was to defend people from central banks and governments(the biggest criminal organisation in the universe). I would be very grateful for your reply if could tell me your opinion. I transferred some money to Coinbase pro exchange. Sometimes I traded a few times a day, at other times no trades for weeks. I never transferred money to my bank account from Coinbase pro. I try always keep money in my exchange account so I make trades which last no more than a day and I traded only bitcoin. So it seems to me if I just compare the money which I transferred to Coinbase pro to how much I have now it should give me a quick reply how much I lost or gained in the year. And I would not need to calculate each trade profit/loss separately as at the end I should get the same result. Sir, am I right or I am missing something?
The short answer is essentially yes. If all of those trades happen within a year span, then all you need is know your net gain or net loss really calculate taxes owed or tax loss harvesting that can be done if there is a loss. Tax loss harvesting is a little more complicated though so read up on that.

No. Only if you sell your crypto. It's just like stocks. Say you buy some amount of bitcoin worth $100 (ie. cost basis). One month later, it is $150 and you decide to sell. Your profit is $50, but you need to take into account that you have incurred your capital gains tax on that $50, which is generally your income tax bracket taxation rate if you hold the asset for less than one year. For example, say you pay income tax of 20%, then you would need to pay the tax man 20% of your $50 profit (ie. you owe the tax man $10). This is exactly the same as profit gains on buying and selling equities (ie. stocks). It also works in reverse. If you buy for $100 and sell for $50, then that is considered a loss and you can tax loss harvest that amount toward what is owed to the tax man. Another good example, say you start with $100 (cost basis) and you do one hundred trades with some gains and some losses and this all takes the span of less than a year and you end up right at $100, you essentially owe the tax man nothing since your net gain/loss is $0 dollars.
