Far from a terrible start with no plan, what happened was a rapid change in plans to take advantage of a huge opportunity. Golden (the player on Germany) spotted that Swimmy (the player on France) hadn’t done his focus to get rid of “Disjointed Government” yet, meaning that he’d capitulate after losing only a few tiles. Bo points it out in the video at 2:38. There was a short window of a few months before Swimmy could get down to the focus to remove that, so Golden had a win/win by going for Sudetenland way earlier than usual. If he doesn’t get denied, he gets the industry for free. If he gets denied, then he just has to take a few border towns and Swimmy dies immediately and he gets even more industry incredibly early. Which is exactly what ended up happening. Swimmy essentially threw the game by keeping Disjointed Government for far too long, setting the conditions for an early Sudetenland claim to actually work
It cuts quickly so it is barely shown and not mentioned, but Swimmy as France capped immediately as soon as they took a little bit of land, since Swimmy didn't take the french focuses to prevent that. So instead of Swimmy holding forever against a super weak Germany, he capped as soon as he lost anything, and Golden ended up coming out with a successful early war while civ greeding which is normally insanely difficult, if not impossible, making Germany pretty powerful
