    years ago, my sister cooked a 15 lb ham for Thanksgiving. Took it to the car then went back in the house to gather more stuff for trip to mom’s house. She came back outside within about 7 to 10 minutes. The entire ham was devoured by her Lab.
    Leaving the car door open was a very bad idea.

    Definitely grab yourself some elephant ears!
    Hearing the neighborhood discuss the "collateral damage," I'm reminded of how I USED to go around and unplug half the house when a storm was approaching. And how many times I've dodged a bullet over the years after NOT doing this anymore.
    They're VERY lucky to get away with a contactor and a thermostat. We once had lightning strike a tree outside my parents' bedroom when I was a kid. Fortunately, the only thing destroyed was our well pump. (Somehow, it missed our roof antenna on that side of the house!!!) I even remember my father and my uncle replacing said pump, my uncle asking if the breaker was off, my father saying yes, and then a few minutes later my uncle got a nice 240v zap. I've never seen my uncle look at anyone like that before, or after. I've never seen my father run so fast - and he was a firefighter. My father **wired the house, never labeled the panel, had no idea what breaker was what, and didn't even have the cover panel installed - ever** and to this day, only about half the panel is labeled. (It's on my to-do list, I swear!) Don't worry, I installed the panel cover when I was in 7th or 8th grade, when I found it on a distant shelf in the basement.

    Had the same issue at a law firm. Lightning strike took out the capacitor, contactor, and ecm condenser fan motor

    I've had electronics damaged that where not hooked up to AC. It can happen from the EMP from a close strike damaging processors.

    • @KenKen-ui4ny
      @KenKen-ui4ny Рік тому

      Lightning strikes can produce EMP fields strong enough to ruin electronics nearby. But in small distance compared to the ones produce from an atomic blast.

    Our Bandit loves to snag bread too and anything else he can find 😅 He especially loves biscuits home made or canned. Sounds like you had some serious lightning. According to my neighbor we had a funnel cloud from those storms Saturday. I measured a 56 mph gust so that explains that. Kinda got by easy with a strike that close. Be safe! Glad to know I’m not the only one that loses tools lol

    We lost our 4th Doberman Pinscher gal at the end of May. She was just a couple of weeks shy of hitting 13 years of age. Not that I was looking for this, but we now have a 1 year old pure-bred Dobergal in the family. No.5 has entered our lives and I can't wait for the puppy thing to be over with. When she's not in her crate, you have to keep an eye on anything and everything that can be chewed or eaten. With that said, the house is no longer quiet, and we are whole again!💕💕💕💕💕💕

    I bought two big chocolate bars from the local high school sports supporters, laid them on the kitchen island, and that evening couldn't find them. I thought maybe someone walked in who I didn't hear, but the crime was solved the next evening after Annie, my big Bloodhound, made a big number two. She had eaten both bars, wrapper and all, which proves the old adage "all that glitters is not gold."

    that's funny about your dog lol it reminds me of my sister's dog her dog actually opened the microwave somehow when he was a puppy he was a golden retriever but he was big enough that he was able to reach and opened the microwave door and ate a whole pan of chocolate brownies surprisingly he was fine and lived to be around 13 or 14 I think or so. Speaking of replacing an ac unit my brother's went out last week during our heat wave luckily he had a mini split also so he was able to keep his house around 74 but he said yesterday that it was going to cost him around 13,000 bucks to replace that's including the outdoor unit and furnace.

    You can take your resistance reading, go online and type in ohm calculator. Type in the resistance and voltage and it will tell you what the Amp Draw will be. 96 ohms at 24 volts is 0.25 amps on a 3 Amp circuit. Might save you a contactor or two👍

    Let me ask you a question I live in this County in Florida we don't have real good electricity we have a lot of brownouts electricity jumps up and down I'm retired AC Tech and I've been having a lot of problems with these brand new Wi-Fi thermostats going and burning out I just want to know if that is a common problem especially here in Florida since we have so much lightning we get the power work shuts on and off

    • @josephswolin2
      @josephswolin2 Рік тому +1

      Google Nests don’t like being jumped out from the system so I get that they would do that from power outages and strikes.

    Curtis, I assume this was running at the time of the lightening strike? I've read to turn off unit during lightening. However, the local a/c company that maintains my 3 ton 2016 Ruud package unit (East Central Florida) says not to bother. Leave it running. I do have a question please: if there is insulation drooping down from the top of the blower side cover (so it's just the metal top not fully insulated) how can I re-insulate it? Thanks so much.

    OL Or open lead is just that. The Circuit is open not Shorted Curtis.. The blown Leg may have Shorted to Ground.
    Anytime a Lightning strike is Near a Coil of wire it will work like a transformer and produce a voltage and if the HUGE Current produced has some where to go that Coil will Smoke. Electrolytic Capacitors POP like Fire Crackers...
    In The IT /Telephony world We always emphasized customers NOT to coil up excess cables into coils and leave them loose under the Desks Etc. But out of the Way ..
