  • The 2024 Australian grand Prix was such an amazing experience! Sadly I couldn't film nearly as much as I wanted to for you guys, which I explain in the video, but visiting Melbourne for the first time in five years was so exciting! This was also the first domestic trip where Mark came with me and it was such a great experience sharing this with him and with all of you. Sometimes I really can't believe that I get to do incredible things like this for UA-cam!

Last time the Child Bride and myself were in Melbin, we stayed at Crown, Southbank. Wasn’t the cheapest, but certainly the best value. Central location, walking distance to most interesting places. We had to visit Elizabeth St, home central for motorcycling. And, Victoria Markets for clothing and cool m/c gear…leather vests etc. Best, absolutely best seafood meal we ever had was in a restaurant in the Crown Complex. Can’t remember the name, expensive AF, but devine, to die for. Sue went overboard shopping at Kelvin Klein store in the Complex, everybody got a pressie on our return.
What is unappreciated is the weather in Melbin, it makes people actually dress decently, and fashionably. Makes a change from stubbies, singlets and flannoes here among the great unwashed in the leafy western outskirts of Brissie.
If you guys need somewhere to lay your heads up here in future, you will be welcome. Cheers, and keep up the great job, you little writer you.
Say gidday to Mark for me, and give that big green Kwaka a hug. Life is too short for bad coffee and crappy chicken burgers.

Kaitlyn, what Mark probably either didn't tell you, or didn't know, about many of the cars being displayed, particularly those from the big three US conglomerates - GM, Ford and Chrysler - was they were made or at least assembled in Australia. So the Chrysler Imperial, Chevrolet Impala, Ford Galaxy, Dodge Phoenix, etc. were made in Australia, GM & Chrysler in South Australia, Ford in Geelong and Melbourne.

I've been to three F1 races now, all before Drive To Survive made F1 so popular.
I went to Melbourne in 1999 when the V10s were still around, those things sounded amazing. I went to Spa in 2018, and Melbourne again in 2019.
For the first two races, we got general admission tickets and were pretty worn out by the end of it, and finding somewhere to watch on race day at Spa was really hard as the place was absolutely rammed despite it being a huge track in the forest in the middle of nowhere. The tracks are 5-6km long so you can do a lot of walking over the weekend.
For 2019 we got grandstand tickets which were crazy expensive, but now I'm a bit older it's the only way I'd do it again, but getting any kind of ticket these days is really hard, they sell out so quickly now.
Sorry to hear about your Tooth, hopefully you enjoyed the rest of the weekend.

The house I grew up in had red glass tile blocks in the bathroom. It lets natural light in but obscures vision, and IMO looks good achitecturally.
I don't get the attraction of motor racing. I saw an interview on TV with a racing enthusiast and he said, "I like the noise, I like the smell..." and I thought "So, a race car is a 250 mile an hour FART?!"

My younger son is a F1 TRAGIC! In 2019 I bought us two tickets and gold passes, paid them off in three paymentis, booked flights and hotel. Arranged leave from work and school. Come March 2020 and we were on our way! He had been talking about nothing else for months. So we get on the plane, this thing called Corona virus was starting to be a concern. I had-been checking the F1 website, but it confirmed it was going ahead as normal... Still, before take off I bought travel insurance (useless, as it turned out). As we landed in Melbourne, it was announced that the whole show was cancelled. You've never seen a more disappointed 15 year old... Tickets were refunded at least. Anyway, sorry about your root canal, but glad you and Mark enjoyed yourselves, (shit expensive chicken burgers notwithstanding)!

Nice vlog Kaitlin, you're a fragile thing aren't you haha, jokes. I love F1, I went to every Adelaide F1 GP (started in 85), the first 2 in Melbourne, went to Silverstone and Singapore in 2014 and back to Melbourne last year. Didn't go this year because I'm saving up to head to England to see a mate who's 2 beautiful daughters, I'm grateful to be the godfather of named Imola and Senna....those names would ring a bell to any F1 fan.
Last year though I reckon I spent about 2-250 bucks a day on Heinekens lol, what a rip off. I was staying with a mate who lived just outside the City, and some ubers and Taxi's were trying to charge us 250 bucks to take us the 38kms it was to get home, they'd all turned their meters off and it was a bartering system, totally fkn illegal!!!

If you plan to go to the F1 next year, buy your tickets as early as you can afford it, and buy seats in the stand at a good corner instead of on the straight. You get to actually see the drivers and not just a blur, and no fence in the way. I would choose Grandstand Piquet if I was going. I went when it was in Adelaide every year until they moved it to Melbourne. Very different drivers back then! Piquet, Prost, Mansell, Johansson, and the very dishy Christian Danner who has aged very well, like a smooth red wine! 😜. Piquet was my driver though!

The GP all 3 days sold out last November. 440,000 people. Accommodation at 95% occupancy.
That's why Melbourne gets all the major events/tours and is the arts, sports, culture capital; even second string sports in Melbourne like NRL get bigger crowds than Sydney.
Australian Open. MotoGP. Biggest cricket, soccer, rugby test crowds.. AFL Finals - 4 weeks in a row, different teams it sells out 100k seats. Then sells out Grand Final day. A few years ago Grand Final was a draw snd replayed the following weekend. Sold out again.
Biggest art gallery in NGV that draws major international exchange exhibitions from the Louvre, Reichmuseum, Metropole, Hermitage, JP Getty like Monet, Van Gogh, Renoir, Impressionists. antiquities from Egypt. Soon Melbourne will have a matching modern art museum.
Twice as many theatre seats as Sydney. Taylor Swift - 3 nights at the MCG, 90k per show. She could have sold out 10 nights based on attempts to purchase tickets.
Appartment accomodation east of CBD is good value walking distance to trams or city, near beautiful parks. City block has 60-70 restaurants of every persuasion from fine dining to cheap and cheerful great food. Thats not inckuding dining strips in Fitzroy, Collingwood, Carlton, Richmond. Italian, Spanish, Greek, Vietnamese, Chinese, Korean, Uyghur, Indonesian, indian, French, Japanese.

“The Roulettes are the Royal Australian Air Force's aerobatic display team. They were established in 1970 following the success of earlier teams, the Red Sales and Telstars.
Roulette displays are flown all around Australia and consist of a number of manoeuvres flown in various formations at low level. They are an extension of formation, aerobatics, low level flying, and airmanship skills, taught to Air Force pilots and developed throughout their career.
The Roulettes fly as low as 250 feet (80m) at speeds of up to 370 knots (685km/h) and pilots can experience up to 6 ‘G', or 6 times, the force of gravity during a display. Flying as close as three metres apart, the team showcases the level of visual judgement and hand-eye coordination that pilots in the Air Force are able to achieve.
Roulette pilots are Qualified Flying Instructors who work at the Central Flying School, based at RAAF Base East Sale in Victoria. Between displays, they teach other Air Force pilots to become instructors.”

Yank Tank…. Yank is an Aussie slang term for Americans back in WW2…. Short for Yankie Doodle Dandy. And you know what a Tank is. So a Yank Tank is an American car that is massively oversized and weighs several ton, very slow even though it has a large block V8 powering it. Something you may describe as a land yacht in the US. Not that I’m a car person… I’m just old and remember these things… all the best from Melbourne Australia.

I worked as a courier in Melbourne for 20+ years from when Albert park was being built for the new track, what a pain in the ass for when they started closing the park to ready the place for the GP, the week before and after it was a traffic nightmare.
Back in the pre turbo days you could here the cars in Fitzroy, north of the city, and in the CBD the sound would echo around the buildings, they sounded so cool.
