While at times a bit confusing, I've always liked the Crossfield design. For the same reasons i really like the NX-01 design. I can see the R&D folks trying out a triangular secondary hull as a carrier for small fighter or rescue craft and then realizing the test-bed abilities afforded to such a huge ship. And the refit is just gorgeous.
Personally i think Lorca destroyed the Glenn to keep Discovery unique and the technology under his control. Man was nothing if not calculated. He wouldn't have destroyed the Glenn if there was even a chance he would benefit from it being salvaged.
Back in the 1980s, a friend I knew at school who had a Startrek Board Game, in the starship manual there was TOS and refit starships of Starfleet, Klingon, and other races, there was a TOS vessel design called the Larson Class, but in the Starfleet vessel refit was a vessel class called the Bakerfield Class, which I always refered nick named as a Bakerloo which has a Almost a very similar design concept to the Discovery. Espically on the triangle design.
Does the Glen and Discovery really are normal Crossfield Classes or are they changed to work with the spore drive ? Whats with the version we saw in Strange New World ? Was build by Klingons but Enterprise recognised it as Crossfield Class
The USS Discovery, the most advanced federation ship and at the same time the oldest, unique in the entire fleet and so different from others. It carries the name best suited to explore our universe and others, our timeline and alternate timelines, it has gone where no one has ever gone before and continues to blaze a trail into the future. What a glorious ship 💙🖤
I remember when I first saw Discovery some years ago when they revealed and I was not a fan. As I watched the series the design grew on me and I really started to like the design of the ship itself. The 32nd century refit is a work of art as far as I'm concerned. I think it looks better then most of the other 32nd century ships, most like due to the fact that it has the old Starfleet silhouette. Plus it's not just white. New Starfleet has waaaay too much white for my liking.
Star Trek ships are bigger on the inside. Especially for their hangers with fleets of shuttles. Its classified tech of course, that's why Voyager is shown to only about 4.
i am not a fan of the design and the spore drive that make no sense to me and i dont like the spinning when it use the spore drive very much would like to see it from the inside

Ya that double shielded, perfectly cloaked, battle carrier had more firepower than Star base 1
I actually rather liked that original discovery design. I assumed that was the original crossfield design while the Discovery and Glenn were modified versions of it.
Well, the spore drive still needs an operator which is impossible to obtain in mass scale due to the regulations and prohibitions for eugenic experiments in the federation and because of the destruction of Kwejian due to the DMA which resulted in the elimination of almost all empaths. That would explain why the Pathway Drive is a better solution although idk what it is but could be related to a kind of warp.
@@Ultra_YT_ In the season 3 finale, it was also mentioned that the DNA stamets has would be quite hard to re-obtain, considering the tardigrade is extinct and the DNA fused with stamets DNA. So even if said experiments are still banned (which I doubt) it would not be that easy. As for the pathway drive, it seems to somehow just be an enhanced warp drive considering its mentioned that in the opening of season 5, they could have pulled a ship out of warp if they had a pathway drive, implying that the drive at the very least operates in a simular capacity to the standard warp drive, but with more speed/power/force/etc.
If the nacelles were 10% shorter, the saucer was filled in and didn't spin around, and the hull was brighter, I would be a big fan of the Crossfield Class. I know what they were going for, the design conveying speed while standing still, but it feels like they pushed the idea ever-so-slightly too far.

Shame they forgot about the Crossfield style ships in Star Trek 4 in space dock.
They aren't properly Crossfield. Kitbashes aren't part of the original lineage. Likely those ships will be covered for SNW segments.
To me that ship looked suspiciously Klingon in design. Specifically it reminds me of the D7 cruiser. I think the TV series even addressed the issue🙂
The ship pre dates the D7.
Also it's an upgraded design from the original design that was designed for Startrek Phase 2 that originally had more of the TOS style of nacelles!.
