The reviewer basically a bass head. B&O tunes their headphones to be balanced overall. Most people buying an headphone picks sound quality over Noise Cancellation amongst other novel technologies.
Mine absolutely thump at max volume with zero distortion. Even on bass heavy tracks with the EQ maxed out for bass. Im very impressed by these, I was originally going to upgrade to the 95’s but I’m not so sure now as I’m enjoying the hx so much
I’m so thank you to have a detailed review on hx! I recently have mine and I’m enjoying using it a lot with its balanced sound which is perfectly signature sound of b&o. Other features you mentioned are moslty the same as my opinion!
B&O released the firmware update that effectively fixes the distortion at high volumes with heavy bass. I tested it before and after the update and it is fixed.
@@TechKnowBiz It truly is. Yes the noise canceling could be stronger but they already have great noise isolation. I keep listening to the B&O HX and going back to the Airpods max and personally prefer the B&O.
The bass is very tight and controlled, in my opinion it is far more important than having a bass that can mark itself with that inconvenience of being uncontrolled and muddy.
So surprised that some youtubers are saying that this is an airpods max killer. I think this is the only honest review about the beoplay HX out there. Everything explained very carefully. Thanks for this
Having an issue when Maxing bass is one thing, having bad sound is another. These headphones sound amazingly good, yes, when maxing the bass, it's shit, but that's something that happens with 99% of heaphones that aren't bass designed. Buy skullcandy and you'll never hear a single vocal but the bass will be amazing. Hi-fi listeners aren't bass driven.
@@lutky612 High-quality drivers should have low harmonic distortion measurements. Sony & Sennheiser also give you EQ options and their drivers are still capable of reproducing a clean sound. B&O should not give EQ options if their drivers are clearly limited to a low dB output on specific frequencies.
This is simply a paid tech industry post. Apple doesn't make better sounding products than B&O. Most people consider sound quality to be a greater priority in purchase determination than any other features. If the mics or noise cancellation mattered the most, Sony and Sennheiser beat the airpods anyway. Even Bose has superior noise cancellation. The HX, Sony 1000's, and Momentum wireless are all superior. In fact, I'll take the QC's before airpods max, and at their price point, give me a pair of Bathys too. So no, nobody is looking for an airpods killer because they're not at the top of anything.
I have the HX, the Apple AirPod Max, the Sony XM5 and the Bose NC700 (why so many? - I am a bit nutty). At 70 years old, my hearing is not the best, so I find all of these headphones fine for listening, especially when it comes to UA-cam and podcasts. I do think the AirPod Max and Sony may be a notch ahead on sound, noise canceling etc. But, I do love the HX. B&O make a beautiful product and I find myself reaching for the HXs often. In my mind, nobody has yet made a perfect set of headphones. But, most of us do not wear the same clothes every day, so why not a few headphones to choose from as the mood strikes.
Just to clarify the "X" in HX is supposed to be the roman numeral for 10. These are the H10's. They come after the H9's. If you ask B&O they will tell you this.
Yeah looks to be true. I have not tried that out yet. But have had multiple reports suggesting that it has been fixed. I would still recommend that you try it for yourself before investing.
Great video as usual. It seems the Beoplay HX has three 'critical' flaws: 1) High harmonic distortion (particularly when punchy bass is requested) 2) Annoying touch controls (especially when adjusting volume) 3) Noticeable impact of ANC on sound quality If you add the high price on top of these issues, they become deal-breakers for many. The high harmonic distortion has been reported in other written reviews; one Amzn reviewer from Italy even bought two pairs to confirm it was not a defective unit. Both pairs had the same problem.
I bought a pair of these but had to send them back. They would crack up when walking and like you say when the bass was too high. The main problem was that they made a slight popping noise (akin to the sound of dust on a record) whenever ANC or Transparency mode was on. Waiting on a new pair from B&O so will soon find out if it was just a faulty pair or a design flaw.
@@TechKnowBiz This will be very disappointing if this is the case but I guess I'll find out soon enough. Maybe it's a production issue with recent Beoplay products. I have the A9 Mk 3 and that thing is a beast and never had any problems. I personally really liked the sound of the HX's though....it's one of those products you really want to love but hard too when it has a fundamental design issue. I should be getting the replacement pair tomorrow so I'll let you know.
Yeah bro that would be great. I have already spoken with the dealer about a return. I also really wanted to like it. But looks like I have to buy the more expensive H95s
@@TechKnowBiz hey, just got the new pair. Happy to confirm the popping sound is not there with this pair so the old ones were indeed faulty. However, I can see what you mean about cracking up with maximum bass. This is not an issue for me as I rarely listen to bass heavy music and I would never set the EQ like that anyway but could be an issue for some. I think I will be keeping these. Cheers for the great review.
Oh I’m so happy to see your comments! I recently bought hx and worried a lot whether it has a design issue. Anyway, I’m also listening to music with default settings with middle volume so Cracking sound is not my case..
Could it be that your ears are too big for these round earcups? My experience with the round B&O earcups is that they are more suitable for smaller ears. That would explain why they press on your ears. Actually, the earpads should rest on the area next to the ears. Maybe that's also why you don't have an optimal seal and the bass doesn't seem deep enough? As you say, you should try them out individually. Anyway, thanks for your review!
Mate that is something that I am not sure of as I have not tried that out myself. but my educated guess would be "no". atleast its not easy as changing the battery of your TV's remote. Otherwise i would have found it out.
@@TechKnowBiz ua-cam.com/video/xeKc4GZwcIo/v-deo.html Please check this 30sec short clip...it shows the top can be screwed open to directly access battery for H9i and if u please confirm if this is same with HX. thanks
The Beoplay H9 3rd gen is a better buy, yes the HX has a newer Bluetooth, 5.1 but that seemed to be the only clear advantage. I had the opportunity to listen to the HX and H9 3rd gen and was very hard pressed to justify the HX purchase. PS I hope you do a Redux review after the next firmware update!
And when using the volume I say do it more aggressively when you are using your finger to turn up or down the volume and you'll see your finger naturally feels around it
Okay I'm just watching this because I am looking to purchase the Beoplay HX, particularly for working out in the gym and as a travel companion. I really hope the material on the headphones do not shed from friction while working out, I own a pair of Beats Studio Wireless3 which are a complete eyesore for this design flaw.
For gym purpose I would recommend a headphone with a good clamping force (so that it does not fall off from your head) and a fabric ear pad (as they are more breathable and washable). The AirPods Max does tick all these boxes. But if you are lookin for something else You could look at the Sennheiser Momentum 4 as well. The HX are a solid pair of headphones but does not have too much clamping force. But if it fits you well then go for it. You wont be disappointed
Please somebody help me understand how can I listen the headphone with wire but run out battery. I read you can not use it with zero battery. What is the true?
h95s do not have this issue. Plus, the HX also do not have this issue anymore. B&O have released a new firmware update since my video was published which fixes this issue
