My guess for the cameo that Vinny said he's doing at the end of the video is voicing a cat for Mewgenics (the next game from Edmund McMillen, the guy who made Super Meat Boy and The Binding of Isaac). Edmund has been recently asking people on Twitter who they want to hear have a voice cameo in the game
@@carlcarlson4063 Yup it’s come back into development. Edmund has been writing blog posts giving updates on the game. He says he expects it to come out in 2024
Seriously Pizza Tower is really one of those games that feels so damn satisfying to master. The skill ceiling in this game is nuts especially if you are going for S and P Ranks.
Nice of Vinny to finally pay homage to this CLASSIC game. This was my childhood right here! (Shitposting aside I'm glad he's finally playing it, the final build of this game goes super hard.)
I like how authentically 90s this game feels. It is specifically early mid 90s. 1998 is my favorite, but it's ok it's all good. Just the whole style, aesthetic, and energy of this game instantly makes me think of classic sonic and Domino's pizza adverts lol. Perhaps Chuck E. Cheese and other arcades too. As Joel said it looking like a 90s cartoon also helps I suppose. He said Cow & Chicken, it's like that mixed with Rocko and Angry Beavers and some Klasky Csupo. Then the faces with the eyes remind of some Ed, Edd n Eddy reactions specifically Double D falling over on Ed's chair then seeing the moldy sandwich right in his face. Fantastic moment. Also on the side I like how it still just feels like its own thing despite the obvious inspiration. As Joey also put it it doesn't "scream" about it. It's not just copy thing that was good but not as good.
You know, maybe this is a bit far-fetched. But the level design reminds of 90s pc platformers like jazz jackrabbit, with a focus on speed, collectables and secrets.
It's definitely late '90s SVGA era stuff. Jazz 2, Captain Claw... it actually reminds me the most of a game I've long forgotten the name of, that I got on a shareware disk, that only stuck in my memory because one of the levels used a MIDI version of the instrumentals from the Bloodhound Gang's "Bad Touch" as its background music.
I just wanna say real quick that the way they did the costumes in this game is really clever. What it seems like to me is that they animated Peppino with the white hat and apron first, and then afterwards they took some patterned layers and put them onto his hat and apron and set a function for the game to toggle which layers are visible. Really clever way to have customization without increasing the (already probably pretty high) amount of work on the animations for Peppino much.
This is the most Vinny game I've ever seen. A true Italian game. The game does feel like a strange 90s cartoon. It feels like when I was a kid and had a fever dream about cartoons I watched back then.
@@Lanoman123 I'm fully aware. I already watched Vinny play through Shake It all the way through. MY joke is that Vinny wanted to play Pizza Tower after Wario Land. The idea is a recursion of both games. Can't say I expected to have to explain myself like this haha
I love how this game is simultaneously the best Wario game in years and the best Sonic game in years. Learning the level layout at your own pace before the pressure is on and you gotta go fast is such a genious idea.
Some of this game's music reminds me of Hideki Naganuma. There were some familiar voice clips Naganuma has used, for one thing. Around 1:50:00, you can faintly hear "I don't understand what's going on here," which is used in the Jet Set Radio track "Sneakman."
Highly recommend checking out "Move It Boy", the unused 2player/settings screen track for this game. It's probably the closest we'll ever get to a full-blown Naganuma composition in Pizza Tower.
Not sure if Vinny will get to see this, but if anyone gets a chance to bring up in chat, in each of the main "hub" worlds for each set of levels that Peppino returns to after finishing a level, there's a secret room in each (i.e there should be one right next to the Pepperman boss battle if you charge through the wall)
Vinny mentioned doing for a voice in an indie game. Edmund McMillan put out a call for recognizable names to do cat noises in Mewgenics a few days ago. So that's my best guess.
I haven't heard of this game in a long while! And I'm digging it. It looks so fun, and just looks good in general. I also like the Peppino's design. A lot of games that try to be some sort of successor to older ones, end up having characters that just look and feel like bootleg versions of the originals they're based off of. But Peppino feels like Peppino (even if you can see the Wario Land 3 influence).
This is a really good point in the game's favor honestly. Peppino does NOT feel like a copy of Wario, but he feels like the same TYPE of character. They didn't just make a legally distinct Wario, they went back to the drawing board and created a character from the same archetype starting at square one. Too many indie games will just copy the hero of whatever inspired them and file the serial numbers off. Peppino is great because his resemblance to Wario is 90% accomplished through his vibes alone.
@@snowob I think they meant in terms of color scheme mostly, as WL3 Wario has that similar tan-white-black combo Pep sports. But in terms of gameplay, it's for sure akin to WL4!
This game feels like a flash game (that made-by-one-guy sketch aesthetic) visually but fully realized in gameplay, animation, music, and overall development. I love it
Whenever Vinny thanks chat he always sounds like he's just was given something in public or something and has to take it otherwise he'd feel awkward if he refused.
Regarding the best way to reheat pizza being a cast iron pan, that's also a good way to cook pizza at home if you don't have a fancy pizza stone. Start it on the stove, give the bottom a head start, then throw it under the grill/broiler or whatever the setting is called in the oven to give the top a thorough whopping. Also very good for those premade super market pizzas where if you just put them in the oven straight away they never crisp up enough. I don't have a cast iron one so I usually just use a big normal pan on the stove, then transfer to a baking tray for the oven part. Also seeing as I'm writing my pizza manifesto, pineapple on pizza is perfectly legitimate and people who are vehemently against it to the point of ridiculing it are pizza fascists. It adds some sweetness and acidity that pairs well with salty meats like ham or bacon. There are 2 reasons to dislike it for the weirdly emotional pineapple on pizza detractors (just not liking it is fine, but some people are militaristic about it): 1. you dislike cooked fruit in general. 2. you are appealing to tradition and the status quo. Reason #1 is stupid and entirely based on personal fussiness Reason #2 is silly because it induces a purity spiral which, when you consider how much difference there is between "traditional" pizza from Italy and the more globalized version the rest of the world eats, is pretty stupid. Thank you for coming to my ted talk. I'll end off with a hot take: The only thing better than a pineapple and bacon pizza, is a bacon and banana pizza. I'm ready for my crucifixion now. I am ready to become a pizza martyr.
I personally find supermarket pizzas get crispy enough if you just ignore the rating on the packaging and crank your oven all the way to max temperature... you just gotta pay attention because they go from "perfect" to "a pile of ash" REALLY quickly with this method.
Pineapple on pizza sucks because pineapple sucks. Sorry not sorry. It's the worst fruit. The texture is stringy while also being neither sweet nor sour enough to have a satisfying flavor. I'd rather have pear on pizza than pineapple because at least pear is sweet enough to justify it's weird texture.
Peppino’s ancestors were ancient Roman warriors during the Gallic Wars, and they slaughtered at least a dozen Gaulish settlements under the command of Julius Caesar, whom is also one of Peppino’s ancestors as well directly
Reheating Pizza: Cast Iron. Get it hot, put the pizza in. Put in a little water away from the pizza and cover. The cast iron crisps up the bottom crust so it's not all floppy. The water quickly turns to steam, melts the cheese on top and softens the side crust so it isn't like a brick.
dude vinny got so much more schmoovement at the game once that chat member mentioned that he lost the race vs the horse. probably because hes slowing down to keep exploring
@@meatmobile The escape theme did too, but they changed it a few builds back to their own take on the clip just in case the Nintendo Ninjas got riled up.
Vinny is why I knew this game even existed, why I followed its development since 2019 and why I'm now so obsessed with the final build. Now he's here for the full course. Life is good! I don't even like pizza but this manic rush of 90's Nicktoon crack and Wario-tier jams is probably the immediate winner of 2023's GOTY for me.

This game feels like a flash game (that made-by-one-guy sketch aesthetic) visually but fully realized in gameplay, animation, music, and overall development. I love it
Love that peppino keeps doing the no bitches face in the top right corner
No toppin's?
Whenever Vinny thanks chat he always sounds like he's just was given something in public or something and has to take it otherwise he'd feel awkward if he refused.
This game's soundtrack is exceptional.
At long last, Mr. Pizzapasta has played the game made for him and literally nobody else but him.
I enjoy Peppino's unmoving shirt patterns.
It’s very Chowder-esque if you ask me
Regarding the best way to reheat pizza being a cast iron pan, that's also a good way to cook pizza at home if you don't have a fancy pizza stone.
There are 2 reasons to dislike it for the weirdly emotional pineapple on pizza detractors (just not liking it is fine, but some people are militaristic about it):
1. you dislike cooked fruit in general.
2. you are appealing to tradition and the status quo.
Reason #1 is stupid and entirely based on personal fussiness
Reason #2 is silly because it induces a purity spiral which, when you consider how much difference there is between "traditional" pizza from Italy and the more globalized version the rest of the world eats, is pretty stupid.
Thank you for enlightening me on pizza. Maybe now I will prosper and actually gain good taste
Peppino's faces are great
what perfect timing i literally just finished 100%ing the game
This is your New Game Plus, enjoy!
Same!
@@Glory2Snowstar more like new game minus
As an Italian, I can confirm that we sense each other's presence. That's how I found Vinny in the first place, I spore networked
Is it true that Italian people’s blood are also made of marinara sauce as well?
I really like how the first half of the boss fights teaches you all the patterns it can do, and then the second half mixes them around
The music in this game is INSANE.
"Did a priest just absolve Pepino."
I'm pretty sure that is the implication they're going for. That or exerocizing the magic of the suit.
Peppino is such a good Catholic that he goes to Confession ten times a level. Maybe a little overkill there, brother.
Peppino’s ancestors were ancient Roman warriors during the Gallic Wars, and they slaughtered at least a dozen Gaulish settlements under the command of Julius Caesar, whom is also one of Peppino’s ancestors as well directly
It's so much like Wario, with the time attack to exit the stage. This looks great.
I love how pizza tower is full of vinesauce humer
Vinny now LOVES Pizza tower
Reheating Pizza: Cast Iron. Get it hot, put the pizza in. Put in a little water away from the pizza and cover. The cast iron crisps up the bottom crust so it's not all floppy. The water quickly turns to steam, melts the cheese on top and softens the side crust so it isn't like a brick.
I heard Joel was more Italian than Vinny because Joel lives closer to Italy than Vinny does.
Makes sense
dude vinny got so much more schmoovement at the game once that chat member mentioned that he lost the race vs the horse. probably because hes slowing down to keep exploring
The warioland 4 vibes even down the sound effects and the tracks. Love it. ❤️
I think one of the tracks (the golf track, I believe) directly samples the Wario Land 4 sountrack for that warbly voice
Pasta man plays Pizza game
Pasta man also gets to feel his inner Roman side that every Italian has deep down inside
I love Peppino's personality, like, it's somehow unique in a way as if he had schizophrenia, anger and fear all at the same time.
Literally me
And thus the prophecy has come to pass
Definitely did not expect to see some references like a Joel Monkey in the first dungeon and a Pizza Duck in specifically the BloodSauce Dungeon
This isnt pizza tower. This is tower of pizza. Vinny will never play pizza tower
The noises he makes fighting Pepperman was my legit thoughts when fighting him tbh
I love how the game looks like it was made out of old clip art and drawn on MS Paint
