  • I’m remodeling the first floor bathroom in my house and doing all the drywall myself like I have in multiple other rooms on the first floor.
These are the tips that have helped me install and finish sheet rock by myself to make this level of remodeling affordable.
I recently had the house to myself, for the rest of the family went on vacation, and I had to figure out a way to hold up a long run of drywall tape without any help.
My experience has been that when the mud needs to be smeared into the cracks and fill the joints before applying to tape. The mud needs to be pretty wet so that means That the tape doesn’t have much adhesive strength to hold the tape in place over a six, seven or 8 foot run and it gets even worse if it’s a 14 foot wall.
So it occurred to me just to use some blue painters, tape, and leave some room at the end of the run for other drywall tape that needs to be applied.
I also found that getting the tape wet, helped out a little bit of moisture that helped haul together the mud, then tape, and then more mud combination for that initial application of drywall tape.
Feel free to ask me any questions, and I plan to make some more drywall videos in the future about things that I have learned doing these things in a hand on fashion, and not doing enough of it that I have the muscle memory the pros develop doing it day in and day out.
Most of my drywall tools came from a home improvement chain called Menards.
The rest of it came from either Home Depot or I bought it used from a thrift store.
