    I want to say thank you for all of your videos. I have learned so much, and it gave me confidence to tackle an entire drywall job for my basment. 1200 square feet and three rooms. Looks great for my first time. Skim coated and no racetracks. Thank you so much, and keep the videos coming.

    That is super cool. I can totally see two newbs working together. One staying messy and applying the tape, the other wiping out. Good alternative to a banjo for guys that don't do this too often. 👍

    Crazy good video Ben! I will absolutely try this. Please keep reminding us about which way the crease goes when applying the tape. It’s like your “feather the edges” ..we need to hear it over and over so it becomes engrained.

    Ben, you are my hero. I'm about to take on a small drywall project and thought I'd do a little research before starting. I love this mud applicator. I made mine out of a 1.25-gallon plastic laundry detergent bottle. It can be cleaned and reused. The sides are relatively flat making it perfect for this application. I started out with a narrow slot and can trim it to get just the right mud thickness. Thank you for making these videos. You are very informative while not being boring. Great job!

    Snip an old pan in half and put it in a new one. Fill the whole show with mud and let er rip. Can use 1/8tile spacers if you gotta get real fancy. But you don’t. Makes two.
    Nice to have a friend when you’re doing this at first. Take someone off their work for 2 minutes and make 200m of tape for the day.
    Plastic the bucket if you’re going to leave it for a bit, so much surface area can be a nibbles factory

I have some cracked/slightly separated wall to ceiling corners that I'm gonna be working on retaping (not even actually sure if they had tape in them to begin with) but my ceilings have a slight bit of texture to them so if you get an opportunity to do any texture work definitely make sure you make a video on it!

    You said cutting the slots in a bucket might be difficult. Plastic cuts easily with a roto-zip. Drill a pilot hole to start it. The kerf of the cut should be about right. A circular saw should work, too.

    So last week, i replaced a hole sectuin of drywall due to a leaking window. I used westpac 40 min set taped corner beads and some tape. Came out better then the original warped wall. Problem: drill mixer chewed up the bucket and left strings of plastic in my mud. Make sure the mixer does not have a forge mold offset like mine did from homedump.

    As always... great video! You are VERY good at this!!!
    I have a bit of an off topic question...
    Do I need to remove drywall dust before I prime?
    It’s something I’ve always done, but I recently was told that I didn’t have to, and that the dust “melts” into the primer. Then sand lightly after the first coat of primer, then paint.
    Doesn’t this seem odd to you?

    • @vancouvercarpenter
      @vancouvercarpenter  5 років тому +2

      Nope. I do the same. No dusting off. I do quickly dust off the clumps of dust in the corners with a dry brush. Too much dust will just turn to schmegg in the corners when cutting in. As for the broad surface of the wall the dust will just work into the primer and not cause any issues with adhesion.

    • @vancouvercarpenter
      @vancouvercarpenter  5 років тому +3

      Also, I always lightly pole sand between coats of paint. Makes for a waaaayyyyyy nicer job.

    • @stonesourG6

      Thanks Ben! I trust your knowledge and feedback!
      Love the channel so far. I enjoy the little comedic breaks you add too.
      Thanks again, for the advice. I had always been told that I had to wipe the surface before priming.
      Going to do it your way. I’m in the midst of taping my basement now!
      Keep up the great work, bud!

      You could make this work for bead. Definitely trickier though. Not sure exactly how to cut the slots. Also, you would need to have a short piece of bead sticking through it as a guide or it would never go through the other end.
