- This is the location where the former Dixie Boy Truck Stop from the movie, 'Maximum Overdrive' once stood. It is located at the Estes Truck Lines in Leland, North Carolina on Interstate 74 -approximately ten miles from Wilmington.
I'm still glad there are fans out there and that you could find the location! Thanks!
Me too!
If I win the lottery is swear by God I will buy that property and bulldoze all of it and rebuild the dixieboy to film accuracy and make it a real truck stop.
i was thinking the same fucking thing ill do it first
Same ‘ere
Gods bless you for getting this on UA-cam
fucking shame that it's not a truckstop I miss the 80's truckstops
Thank you for posting this video. Nice to see what the present location looks like. I am glad the old ESTES sign is still up !
Hans Gruber you know what would've been awesome, if they demolish it in the same way as the film truck stop was.
Unfortunately, they changed the sign two years ago.
I think they changed the Estes sign since this video. That’s probably the only marker to let you know you are on the former site of the Dixie boy
2021. just now seen this. funny they tear dixie boy down but theres a truck outfit there. trucks. imagine that
Bummer... I'm sorry to hear it's gone now, Thanks for the video, though, I stmbled across a review of the movie and it sent me looking for videos of filming locations
I wish it was still up. My all time favorite movie.
Great work! Only thing I would say about it is concerning the ball field' I always figured it was the Rachel Freeman Elementary School. Yes the likely suspect is just a shade of a mile east, but after the brouhaha at the ballfield in the movie, at the first appearance of the ice cream truck, the kid is at the corner of Kenwood and Shirley, another location easily findable. Kenwood and Shirley is across the river and well to the northeast of downtown Wilmington. So why would the kid ride all the way there after the ballfield scene and then back to where he came from?
Then again, like I say.... it's a moooovie.... :)
Years ago I went to the office at the steel yard and they were really nice folks. Let me walk around and take still pictures. Doesn't hurt to ask. :)
Well shit, there is nothing of it left, would still love to visit one day
I would have bought that place a turned it into a really cool truck stop !
yes that must of all been put up later the fences, you can see the buildings in the background in the movie
Do one were the kid was hiding from the ice creem truck
Funny how its a Truck Stop for a movie and they turned it into a REAL Truck Stop.
+ninjakio930 it was already a truck stop they used 2 Dixie boy locations in nc this one which was the one they blew up the other is off exit 61 which has changed hands numerous times and lil remodeling here and there
But Estes is not a truck stop. They are a trucking company and it is their private terminal there.
Its all gone :(
it wasn't a real truck stop it was a set built for the movie, altho after the movie some locals bought the rest of the set that was moslty blown up and turned it into a real truck stop for a few years
Interesting fact, Is it still there?
Danimal1978 bs. My dad used to drive through there when that movie was made and before. He was even offered to drive a truck in the movie. It was an actual truck stop.
@@ethangaskins7684 it only became one after the film they decided to keep it and make it a real truck stop
@@tichdaddy1 no its not
@@ethangaskins7684 Maximum Overdrive HD - Filmed in Wilmington NC The "Dixie Boy" truck stop was a full-scale set constructed ten miles west of Wilmington, North Carolina, on U.S. Route 74/76. some locals bought the set of the Dixie Boy and transformed it into a working truck stop. It was fully functional for three or four years until it went bankrupt and was torn down sometime in the late 1980s. Some signposts for the Dixie Boy still exist.
