Tool isn’t just music…. It’s a journey, the instruments create a soundscape for the story being told
Very well said!
Except for 7empest is more of a jam
Here for TOOL 🔧 Keep doing them and TOOL Army will come. Greatest band ever. They do not have a single bad song.
EDIT: You guys kinda jumped into the deap end.
we approve this message
Third eye is the deep end...
Yes we will...
Here for it
Check out Eulogy from their second album AEnima
Love your Tool reactions. You will grow to love them. It's important not to try and follow the rhythm and instead just relax, let go and listen. And listening to any of their songs lying down in the dark is an incredible way to listen to Tool. They take you on a journey. Try their song "Descending". It is incredible. Cheers!
The thing about Tool is not to try to follow the rhythm, you have to follow the pulse, like it was something circular like a sphere instead of straight like a square. Spiral out! 🌀
Well said sir……
I've said it elsewhere and I'll say it again. Tool fans chase Tool first time reaction videos for a bunch or reasons. But chief amongst them is because it's never the same the second time around. We all love seeing new people's minds blown by Tool. And I fully agree with you, Domenica. The songs don't always hit you right from the start, but they find a way under your skin and by the end you're committed and loving it.
It’s also just called The Tempest, and you guys need to check out more Tool, Check out Lateralus their most famous song. It’s also the title track from their third Album.
This is a long one but won them a Grammy back in 2019.
2020 Grammy Awards, actually.
Latetalus, H, right in two, wings of Marie. Next in your playlist
I enjoy your comments...talk away. This is YOUR reaction. I look at the music in this piece as a storm (tempest definition) the pitter patter of the rain drops in the beginning leading to high winds and chaos then giving way back to the light rain and aftermath.
if you want a tool song that will make you cry, listen to Wings for Marie and 10,000 days (theyre 1 song ) its about the lead singers mother who lived for 27 years paralyzed and its from his perspective after she died.
6:38 - Progressive Rock/Metal/Pop/whatever.. Progressive, prog. The best mind food you can have ever! :)
Enter into the mayhem to the calm eye to exit as entered a tool trip. The more you hear the more you’ll want. The Pot,Lateralus,The Grudge,46 & 2,Right in two bring it on 🤘🏼
YES!!!
The song is about a tempest, of course it's dark and unsettling! The slower repetitive stuff at the beginning is part of why I love Tool (though they do have songs that dive right in hard and brutal ha!), they craft their songs to take one on a mental and emotional journey. I know there is no right opinion of music, some people just don't like stuff that doesn't jump right into the usual formula of a song or is discordant in any way (I confess I am not a big fan of most jazz or of country music), but I love Tool precisely because of the irregular time signatures and all the changes and not knowing on first listen what's coming next. This song IS long, first time I listened even I thought maybe they could have cut a couple minutes! I have to be in a certain mood to fully enjoy and appreciate this song in full but the ENERGY of it grabs me every time. My personal favorite song off this same album is Descending, I think you would be able to digest that one better and it's a gorgeous song. I agree with the missus on listening in the dark with headphones and no distractions, that is my fave way to listen to this album, ha! I am a 60 year old retired preschool teacher and have been a big Tool fan since they started in the 1990s! (Btw I've been told the image on the album cover turns out to be a syringe if you fold the image in half, it goes with the whole inoculum theme.)
🌀🌀🌀🙏🙏🙏✊✊✊ Thanks again for doing Tool reactions. Please, keep them coming!
I've heard many people say Tool is like organized chaos!! And yes they play in off time signatures a lot so catching a rhythm can be tough!! Many Tool songs musically is telling a story same as the lyrics.
Listening to TOOL in the dark by yourself with headphones on while you are nice and comfortable is the proper way to not just listen, but experience TOOL.
7empest is one I don't recommend to new TOOL fans. It's something I think you should build up to. Most people start with their song The POT.
I started with Undertow, to me that is where you should go starting with the early albums and progressing with the band through each album.
TOOL really is unlike any other band, a genre all their own. As you go through their discography you'll find so much variety, yet certain common threads of their style run through them all. For something quite different I would recommend reacting to Parabol/Parabola, which is two separate tracks that blend seamlessly together. It's quite an experience.
A tempest is a violent storm. The song did it’s job. It made you feel unsettled. Love your reaction.
Exactly, the beginning of the song, simulation of claiming rain then slowly changing into a tempest a big Strom, very uncomfortable feeling and yes.....don't look for a rhythm.....sitting back in a room with headphones and enjoying the emotional journey
It's called a polyrhythm. They are masters of it. It's an amazing organized chaos. Freaking brilliant!
I'd describe it as FRANTIC
It'd be fair to say that Tool aren't exactly the most 'accessible' band. Some people just never warm to them, for sure. I'll never forget being told years ago that I needed to 'stop pretending to like them, just because I think it makes me look clever'. Huh... still love them, but for those who don't, each to their own ; )
There will never be another band like T00L. Category all their own. Great video keep on the journey of T00L.
Keep the Tool coming!
You guys have the coolest freaking BEAGLE
You started with the songs that people usually listen to when they have adapted to Tool's sound a bit :) I suggest that you try The Pot, Lateralus, Jambi, Parabola, Sober, Aenima. These would give you a better perspective on them :)
This song is intense for new listeners, both with the length and sound.
I would also suggest listening to right in two, 46&2, sober to ease in to the sound.
TOOL IS FOREVER
Schism 🙏
This song came out just before covid if I remember correctly. I always thought that it was a rage against what they new was going to happen because they are freemasons and therefore had foreknowledge of what was coming. "Calm before the torrent comes. Calm before the tempest comes to reign all over. The tempest must be just that."
Mmm idk my old boss at work never hinted at anything like this. He was a 32° for a while and might even have made it to 33° by the time he retired, but once the pandy hit he was as cautious as the CDC would recommend and got vaxxed the first chance offered at my job in late December 2020.
@@victor75208 interesting. Ha you looked into the structure of the lodge? Initiation and such ?
6:36 Complex rhythms and frequent changes (progressions) are a common feature of progressive rock and progressive metal, as well as some forms of jazz. Other great progressive bands include: Dream Theater, Rush, Death, Opeth, Gojira, Blue Öyster Cult, Liquid Tension Experiment, and King Crimson.
Tool songs are meant to take you on a mental and emotional journey. The long intros, often long enough that they get put as a separate track on the album, are meant as "palate cleansers" to take your mind out of the place it was from the previous song or whatever you were doing beforehand and put your mind in the appropriate place for the next song.
Another awesome Rabbit Hole. Trust me you'll love the journey 🥂🤘
The uncomfortable part of it is the odd time signatures and polyrhythms
Wow, you guys just jumped into the deep end... No doubt the hardest tool song for new listeners to hear.... You will be good to go for any other tool song
It`s not easiest song for a start. Try "The Grudge", "Sober", "the Pot" or even "Lateralus".
Let's go TOOL
Let's go Danny
Tool, A Perfect Circle, and Puscifer all have the same singer. I would love to see reactions to many songs of all of these bands.
Tool - Right in Two next please!
You feel Tool, you don't "hear" them.
Did someone say TOOL... I'm here ... fantastic band... great reaction keep them coming. Can u react to tool sober live pro shot remastered u will be blown away I promise...
You should probably listen to parabol/parabola and Lateralis to hear Maynards vocals better he's amazing
I’m lovin that this song is long enough to read ALL the comments 🤣🤣
Listening to TooL, you can definitely hear how the music is constructed much like classical music... in movements
Greatest song ever composed and performed. Tool army was here
Odd time signatures is kinda hard to get a taste for in the beginning of discovering these lads ..
I know that this song was recommended, but new listeners to Tool do not jump into this type of Song as it is a bit complex and could be too much for new listeners. I recommend listening to The Pot, Sober, 46 &2.... I would also recommend Lateralus. Tool is a very complex band with deep lyrics. I ask that you please stay with them and you will not be dissappointed. Tool is very drum and Bass driven,
I subscribed because I love watching two people get broken into Tool. Best band on the planet and every song is a masterpiece so you cant go wrong. Try Lateralus or Right in Two
Ooooh, cool. Ihr habt einen Hund. Ein Beagle. I love this Dogs!
I absolutely love your channel ❤️. A new look into my favorite music through a foreigners ears.
Tool won a Grammy for this song.
Won Grammy for best metal performance. Adam proves his greatness.
Great reaction, spiral out my friends! Parabol/Parabola please and thanks. Peace
Fun fact for you: they took like I think 13 years or something to release it after the last album. Quite another way of dedication to art
Calculated chaos is the term you're looking for
8:35 - "That's crazy.."
Wow, you dove in at the deep end. If you could make it through this one, I think you’ll find what you’re looking for in earlier pieces. As others have suggested, the MUCH easier songs to start with would be Sober, 46&2, Lateralus and The Pot. But honestly, they’re all special. Enjoy the journey, and this viewer loved all the talking. Thanks for inviting us along.
please react to the disposition reflection and traid! great reaction loved your take on it🌀🤘🏼
Enjoying your Tool reactions. I like that your not afraid to say if you don't like something, not everyone is going to like everything. With that said I think Tempest is more of a song for Tool fans as opposed to someone trying to get into the band. With all of the time changes and the length of the piece can make it hard to get into if your new. I would suggest some of their earlier stuff as it's less complicated rhythmically. Also, the music is written before the singer adds the lyrics which can create a sound that separates Tool from others. Maybe 46 and 2, Aenima or the Pot would be good ones. Also, the lyrics themselves generally carry deep and or dual meanings. Enjoy!
she is stuned'..ty TooL...:P
7:29 you two are talking and pausing the perfect amount. This is quickly becoming my favorite Tool journey.
Im just going to wait for everyone to collectively ask for wings for marie
...keep going...😉
7empest is one of the most complex works of musical art in history. This is not a song for the novice Tool listener. It's best to listen to their earlier works before you can fully appreciate a monster like this. So it's impressive you got so much out of it.
With Tool, each of the four members are equal. Each artist gets their time to shine. Danny on drums, Adam on rhythm guitar, Justin on bass, vocals by Maynard. His vocals are often not meant to be the focus of their music. Maynard's voice is just another instrument in the band.
Tool Is doing it's job and making you think
You can never judge TOOL based on the intro of the song, it builds, has layers. You just have to wait for it.
🤘🏻🌀
Hahaha momma says get on with the jam!! I wanna rock!!
Guys, you're on the right journey reacting to Tool songs. This is the stuff that changes you, they didn't mean it that way. They aimed to be great musicians and to have their music appreciated. They certainly accomplished that, everyone else who's discovering Tool's music for the first time... you really have to accept that you're stepping into a very different world. And it's beautiful there... accept that Tool is a force not just a band. I love how you guys react to these songs for the first time. I was once a newbie and I didn't know what this meant.... I still don't but it's a lovely journey.
More Tool please
“I’m enjoying it my way, I don’t care.”
Welcome to the Tool Army! 14:08
You don’t talk too much!
I really enjoy your discussion about the music!
When there's a build up there's always a payoff.
More TooL please!
Unsettling is a great word to describe the feeling of this song… after all, it’s called Tempest, which is a dark and violent storm. Like Shakespeare’s play of the same name, this tempest is a metaphor for an internal storm within a person’s mind and soul, and the song is designed to elicit that feeling. Spiral out! 🌀
Also, he’s doing a great job of following the rhythm as much as you can on a first listen haha
6:19 discovering polyrithm for the first time. I like that
Maynard said in a interview once , they didn’t want their music to be something you can tap your feet to. Your right their music requires your attention 100% … many layers to this onion.
The "rythym" yall are picking up on is called polyrhythm and TOOL is a master at it and use it in their songs often
This song was meant to listen to Adam Jones this was his song the guitar is phenomanal
Interesting how she says in the beginning that she doesn't like it because it's repetitive and later on because it changes all the time :)
You are one of my favourite youtube reaction couples. You two are completely real and honest.
Please do Lateralus, Parabol (a), Stinkfist and whatever else you find.
Hello my dear.🌹🌹
To you: You are such a symphatic loving couple. I like you so much. I have watched all your Rammstein reactions and all were always genuine and sometimes very emotional.
( Don`t be ashamed Domenica to show your emotions in front of the camera, most Rammstein fans and myself cried with you.)
To Tool: Tool is their own genre and their music is unique. The lyrics are very deep and optionated and therefore an important part of their songs.
Please get the lyrics bevorhand or choose a video with lyrics.
The Tempest was perhaps too heavy an introduction for Domenica, too long and too many changes. I therefore recommend SCHISM, LATERALUS, THE POT, RIGHT IN TWO and many others. They are shorter and " lighter" than Tempest.
I `m sure Domenica, that you will find this a better Tool.
Please relax, sit back and let the fantastic music in your body and your mind. JUST LET GO.
I recommend checking out “Vicarious” by TOOL. It’s quite a bit easier to follow rhythmically and yet is also a masterpiece of constantly changing rhythms and structure.
7:25 - Talk too much? On an REACTION video? How could that be? I watch 10 hour video about a 2 hour movie. I like to hear what you feel, how you think of these songs you are experiencing for the first time.. I would like to feel that again, the first time I heard TOOL. :D
Umm ... so ... Thank you for these great reactionj videos! I love how you two interact with eachoters and I like to hear your honest opinions! :)
This.
More Tool songs. Maybe try Right in Two next
Defiantly check out the POT!!
Tool songs evolve. That's what I like about them. Some other good Tool songs to check out that I think you would like are "Invincible," "Right in Two," and "Parabola/Parabola."
Parabola and Parabola are 2 tracks, but really 1 song. It would be best to find a YT video that has them both together.
And if you can't find videos that include lyrics, maybe Google them separately and have them ready when you listen to the song for the first time.
7:10 controlled chaos , those are the words you are looking for
Moin. Tool ist Porno für die Ohren!
Tool mix their vocals lower than normal on purpose. They consider the voice to be an instrument just like the guitar, bass, and drums, and they mix with that philosophy in mind. It does make the lyrics more difficult to hear, but if the music interests you enough, finding the lyrics is fairly trivial online.
Actually there are lyrics! They usually put the lyrics in the description!
I have to say... I liked your video, and the way you both talk, and how you both are aware of the fact that when you stop to talk it affects and interrupts the whole song flow, and when you talk while the song is still playing was also very cute, because it shows (me, at least) that you don't want to stop to say what you want to say, but.. and that's a HUGE but (pardon me) one for me, if you choose to talk while the song is still playing, you really should choose the time you talk in a way that you don't miss a meaningful moment of the song, and even though Tool songs are so perfect, that every moment of their songs is a meaningful one, you still could choose a better time to miss, than the highest peak of Adam Jones' crazy solo!
I would suggest that you take an X amount of pauses you can take though a song you're reviewing, if you really must pause...
P.s - I stopped your video at once, as I saw you're talking right through that peak I mentioned, and I have to say it really got me mad, so I decided to write my review over yours, and I'm really thinking if I should continue... not to offend, apologies if it did, but had to be honest, I would have wanted to get honest comments by my audience, if I were to be in your position :)
as I said before, I love you're comments. If I may give some info regarding the title : the 7 instead of the T refers to the verse 'the-tem-pest-must-be-just-that (yes, zeven😁).... btw, I hope with time you'll find out that the lyrics are as fundamental, as ithe music., which is always the case with Tool. If you check them out, you'll be even more amazed by their art... just saying... kind greetings from Belgium
I've never heard this song in my 62 years.
Your experience of the song will be completely different when you sit in a dark room with your headphones.
You will lose track of all time because of the shifting, uneven, and compound rhythms.
Also, a deep dive into Tool lyrics is quite a journey. Maynard incorporates mythology, philosophy, politics, emotional therapy, etc.
The darkness you felt from this piece will make more sense when you read its lyrics.
Its funny how so many people don't know what to do with a song that does not follow a simple 4:4 time signature. Oh and I have to disagree on the song length critique. If you love it and it transports you like almost all Tool does for me....this song is too short by half.
more tool!
Please react Caifanes "Afuera" or El Tri "Triste Canción de amor" (Sinfónico).
24:00 - And those people we will ignore! :)
It's not dance music :) ... but it is, for your soul
