Great set, all the bands sounded tight and an awesome mix. I recently started running sound for local rock/metal shows and your videos have been incredibly helpful for techniques and tips/tricks, given my previous sound experience is for home recording / mixing through DAWs only and no live experience at all.
Thank you for all you do!
One of the best cover/tribute band shows I've seen on this channel so far.
1:59 YESS THIS! Listen to your sound engineer when they tell you to turn down your amp. I have been to so many live shows where the guitar amp is just overpowering everything and I cant enjoy shit. One of the best local shows i have been to was when the guitarist was using a Fender Mustang. That amp cant get that loud for the venue, but it was quiet enough for the FOH to give a good mix.
Had this the other week to cries of "I can't hear myself 😢 😢" and i was like " buddy... i'm at the back of the room and can hear you over everything else without the guitars going over the PA"... needless to say you couldn't hear the vocals for poop as they were right on the edge of feedback
1:57 YES!!!!! I can’t tell you how many times i have to fight with guitar players who think they’re playing a backyard party with no PA when cranking their amps to 11…. Like my guy, i’m mixing your levels with FOH, you don’t need to be loud at all for me to pick you up on the cab mic. if you need to be loud, i can make you loud in your monitor. It’s a never ending battle sometimes hahaha
Lookin' California, Feeling New Jersey
Great video as always. As a drummer in an alternate rock band that wants to play at dingbats I have soo many questions for you. Hopefully all goes well and I could have a chance to ask you said questions and pick your brain a bit about live sound for myself as well as for my band. Anyways always awesome to see you do bands justice.
Ask away and I’ll do my best to answer
@@chrishammillaudio I don't want to unload a bunch of questions on the comment section of your video lol
I wouldn’t care. Comments section is here for that reason.
1:56 Always wondered why it’s so hard for guitarists to understand why having an amp turned max volume in a small room is bad for a mix.
Every-time I tell them to turn it down they think I’m trying to diss their guitar tone.
Good video as always! I have a question though: why is your PA system placed so close to the side walls? Isn't it bad? I'm terribly sorry if this question has already been addressed.
Plenty of venues have the PA speakers next to the walls. It’s not bad.
Love your lighting, may i ask what lighting console your using? Awesome set setup

Yes! Captions! But maybe I shouldn't have asked for them. As the band's guitarists, I feel particularly targeted 😀 It's amazing how you can change the colour of the sound of the guitar. And great tip on the 40ms delay. We have 2 guitarist, we pan them slightly off centre L-R. Is there a point of sending a stereo signal to FOH (we play digital anyway).
MOST of you guys take direction and work with me on stage volume 😂
The only exception to this gripe I have is with tube amps. Those I get need to be a certain volume to achieve the desired sound, but even still you don’t need to be on 8!
The 40ms delay is just if the band only has 1 player. If you play digital and send a stereo signal, it shouldn’t be a problem for the sound guy to get you patched in.
What made you think to put overheads above the stage?
No place to put 2 stands on the drum riser.
How do you get that click out of the kick?
Boost the High-Freq. (5-8k)
👆
What’s the venue’s PA system?

lmfao roasted the dude at 17:00
**sees sound guy behind board**
“You the sound guy here?”
Bro…
Boom! Roasted.🤣
surprise you allow liquids by the board
Normally I only allow bottled drinks only. Sometimes I break my own rules.
1st to say First
🤘
i was the guitar guy, who always needed to be louder for the sound guys.. xD
You’re an enigma that shouldn’t exist but we’re thankful you do 😂
Never thought I'd hear a female lead on a soundgarden tribute band.
Neither did I. Whole band had a lineup change very shortly before the gig.
Two jobs at once. Interesting.
3 if you count streaming.
Most soundgys wanna EQ the crap out of the TONE the guitarisat worked so hard on and spent soo much $$ on getting.... Blah blah.. rarely does a FOH sound mixer ever get guitars right
The only way I EQ the shit out of a tone is if the tone is shit. Or I just move the mic if it’s too bright/dark. The amount of shitty guitar tones I’ve had to work with gave me a lot of practice.
Eliminate the “pain” frequency and you’re mostly good to go.
