Benaras Gharana legend Pandit Samta Prasad (1921-1994) alias Gudai Maharaj in a TV programme covering his life, career and also includes excerpts of a tabla solo.
Samta Prasad ji is widely considered to be amongst the finest exponents of the tabla, having been a strong proponent in its popularity across the globe. Having performed Internationally on an extensive basis especially with the sitar maestro Ustad Vilayat Khan, Pandit ji's tabla was marked by his beautiful and unique tonal quality as well as his impeccable aesthetics in solo and accompaniment. Samta Prasad ji also had a successful stint in bollwood where his tabla can be heard in films such as Kinara, Sholay and Teri Soorat Meri Aankhen. His legacy is now being carried forward by his disciples and followers.
