Stencils->You might try an airbrush for more control, i think the main issue with the one you showed of was that you sprayed it very close, causing the bleed under the stencil.
This is a cool idea. I was surprised at the start you used premade graffiti after you made those cool pieces in Photoshop at the start. You can get inkjet or laser printable decal paper and print your own decals, you just need to spray them with a sealer before applying the decal as the ink will activate and bleed when you soak them in water if you don't. You can't print white unfortunately unless you have a special printer with white ink, but the paper does come in either clear or white backing.
This cathedral project is turning out so well! The hand painting was my favorite, but having the styles combined helps it look like lots of different graffiti artists struck over time! I look forward to seeing the board!
I can't wait to see the full board now that you've finished all the cathedral pieces, but I'm a little sad to see the series go-- its one of my favorites yall have put out. Either way, congrats Jenn!!
The freehands look really cool 👍🏻 I’ve made stencils by carefully cutting designs (e.g. flames) onto Tamiya masking tape. You can then place the masking tape stencil on the relevant area. The low tack tape is very flexible and can be used over flat or uneven surfaces. I then carefully press the tape down with a wooden cocktail stick to prevent any bleeding. As others have suggested, use an airbrush from a distance with low psi and then try not to flood the area. This should give better results than a card template and rattle cans
I like the posters and hand painted designs. I think you could use the stenciled designs still if you go back and hand paint detailed letters inside the stencil. It would give it a glow effect. Not only that, you can paint another, completely different, design over top. This would give the effect of different factions tagging the area as their own!
Yes I'd love to watch you make custom transfers. Also I love the hand painted, but would've loved to see it get a little dirtied up like the transfers did.
theres something so ironic about how beautiful something looks after getting it dirtier! This looks sick! I'm really excited to see it all together! This has been such a huge project! : D
Wouldn’t an airbrush be better than using spray cans? It’d give the same effect but you’d have more control and be less likely to accidentally spray other parts of the terrain. Not a fan of the decals personally; even with the weathering there’s something that makes them stand out too much.
There is another, neat option using mod podge. Doctor Faust (of Doctor Faust's Painting Clinic) did a tutorial using them with, I believe, dumpsters a while back. Basically print on some of the thinner printer paper with an ink printer with your image in reverse, put a layer of mod podge on the surface you want the image on, put it face down on that surface, then, when it dries, you can use water to essentially break up the paper and leave the ink behind
One way to make custom stencils for your war hammer models is to use cheap vinyl heat transfer material or off cuts, and using a circuit vinyl cutter type out the words you want in a font you like, or pick an image.
Video idea: Combine model train sets and 40k for a board with working trains (O-scale/1:48 scale potentially may work). Custom made/kitbashed 40k trains would look sick as terrain pieces, and a whole board with moving trains would be amazing.
This is a great video! I've really been inspired by the customising kill teams/terrain series, and Jen your cathedral videos in particular have gotten me motivated to do something of my own. I'm going to be picking up the terrain they use on the UKTC circuit for my tournament practice, but it's plain wood. This series already inspired me to jazz it up a bit to fit my Chaos armies, and this video really got me excited to try out graffiti and posters!
You can get blank decal sheets in white or clear that can be printed on using your own laser or inkjet printer. I think the inkjet ones may require another step (varnish).
There’s a fair bit of tonal whiplash between the cold open intro and the “It’s Tabletop Time” opening. Makes sense for the channel but have to admit it took me by surprise.
For making your own stencils a cricut machine might be worth investigating as you will be able to cut them out precisely. Plus for decals you can make and print your own with decal paper for laser or ink printers. Might be a good first step to see how your like the designs before investing in getting them commercially produced.
Making your own decals is really easy, and you can scale them however you need, just spray down with a mat spray to protect, and dull the decals after application. Making a stencil is a good way to go about it too, and it looks more organic, but if you do that, you need to make sure the decal is stuck to the surface, with it being so far away like you had it, blow out is going to happen no matter what. one thing I would suggest if you do use decals, is to add mistakes. because the decals erase the texture, adding drips, overspray, or adding chipping to the decal would make it feel more real. But good job, for trying different techniques!
Love the idea of 40k graffiti, though I think it probably fits Gorkamorka and Necromunda more than this. One of the big things about graffiti writing is that it is done to be seen, and throw-ups inside a bombed out cathedral doesn’t quite have a level of realism. That said, it was all good content. I love graffiti/street art as well as 40k, so this was beautiful to me. Your custom painted pieces were my favorite of the bunch without a doubt. I think doing custom transfers is definitely worthwhile, and thought that was where this video was headed with the custom pieces. I’ve done it for my Luna Wolves army, so excited to see what you do with it.
I personally love the idea of some cultists going specifically into an old imperial cathedral to spray their graffiti. Vandalizing a church is a huge statement 😂
An alternate way to do this could be to base coat the entire area with the graffiti colours, then apply the positive of the letter stencils, rather than the negative. Paint the rest of the piece, and then remove the letter masks. But of course this method would require being committed to the graffiti before hand, and not added later
Would love to see a video of you guys making your own transfers. Wanted to do that myself for a while but can't afford photoshop so want to see a cheaper method to do so
Making your design on photoshop their using a cricut to cut it from adhesive paper is so effective in my book. They are a lil pricey as a hobby tool but if you know someone that is into a hobby where they are more common like heat sublimation. They can be a priceless too to access. Super easy stencils. And because you can make super accurate outlines of things from just a picture they are amazing for transferring a reference images outline onto your piece if you struggle with freehand proportions. Which I do a bit xD. Also an airbrush is a lot more controllable for spraying the stencils than a spray can.
Have you ever thought of starwars legion, I'm just getting into miniatures because your channels are so cool and I love starwars so I thought it's a good way to start. I also want to dive into warhammer eventually. Great job and really awsome content❤🔥
For graffiti you can't go far wrong with paint markers, used them for some Necromunda terrain to do various graffiti and its pretty effective and easy.
I'll be honest, I feel like these graffiti designs are a bit too modern, like some scofflaw in the 42nd millennium would have some different and wild way of tagging something rather than the Detroit special
I'm surprised you didn't try the stencils with the air brush. It would have given you a little more control / less overspray than the aerosol cans. (Then again, i've never used an airbrush, so there are probably drawbacks that I'm not thinking of)
Misuse of war paint is punishable with being sent to a penal legion. However the tech priest has been impressed by your skills and wants you to paint chapter icons for the lamenters chapter. Enjoy making checkered patterns for the rest of your sad life.
hey, love this project looks sooooo cool. have you got the windows for sale or the stls so I can print them would love to add the stained glass windows to mine. if not would you be able to give me the sizes of them please many thanks steve
The hand painted ones were the best. The transfers still looked too crisp even with the weathering that they stuck out like a sore thumb to me. The stencils may have worked if they was placed flatly on the surface rather then the card you used. Perhaps use some sort of tape with a backing on it so you can draw it, cut it out then peel the backing off to place it on the surface.
I think it would look better (and if I'm being completely honest easier) to just freehand. Also, it would probably be a lot easier to put on graffiti before putting on medium/high weathering
I don't think actual 40k human graffiti would say Alpharius lives though. I think chaos cultist stuff or genestealer stuff would be more obtuse. I'd love to see some loyalist stuff thrown up there too...reflecting a battle for the galaxy through the battle for wall space 😁😍😁
Great music again! Does it fit the theme? Absolutely not. But they're all bops. Also, jesus girl, expense a Cricut or something for those stencils. They're not hideously expensive, and I'm sure it'd get plenty of use going forward.
Well - too late but "Magnus Did Nothing Wrong" pretty neat fits for Chaos Cultist graffiti. Also "Imperiales Eunt Domus".
Romani ite domum... write that 100 times!
People who are called Imperiales, they go the house????
@Magnus The Red Papa told ya "don't talk with strangers in the warp" and you didn't listen...
Also "AAAAB" - All Adeptus Arbitres Are Bastards
"Xenos' Lives Matter! Mutants' Lives Matter!"
Stencils->You might try an airbrush for more control, i think the main issue with the one you showed of was that you sprayed it very close, causing the bleed under the stencil.
Second this suggestion - I used airbrush to stencil numbers and symbols on my terrain and vehicles and it's very clean
This cathedral project is turning out so well!
The hand painting was my favorite, but having the styles combined helps it look like lots of different graffiti artists struck over time!
I look forward to seeing the board!
Honestly Jen the hand painted look by far the best...great work!
full brownie points for the end of the video, the studio lore keeps on growing
I can't wait to see the full board now that you've finished all the cathedral pieces, but I'm a little sad to see the series go-- its one of my favorites yall have put out. Either way, congrats Jenn!!
I concur! I hope they give you more big intricate projects, they seem to suit you kiddo!
The hand painting by far looks the most authentic and blends so much better into the terrain!!! Well done!
Custom transfers would be so cool!
I think so too! Would love to see a video on that
I’ve printed my own for terrain using my inkjet printer. Really easy and not expensive, but I wish I was more artistic with the designs
The freehands look really cool 👍🏻
I’ve made stencils by carefully cutting designs (e.g. flames) onto Tamiya masking tape.
Making your own decals would have the advantage of being able to adjust the size of the decal to fit where you want to put it.
instead of spraying froma can, for stencils airbrush should work a ton better
You could also lazer cut the stencils as they'd be much sturdier and it'd save a huge amount of time
yeah, i cringed when she had the spray can that close
I love the little details of spray cans and a crate left behind :)
I like the posters and hand painted designs. I think you could use the stenciled designs still if you go back and hand paint detailed letters inside the stencil. It would give it a glow effect.
Not only that, you can paint another, completely different, design over top. This would give the effect of different factions tagging the area as their own!
Graffiti, posters and junk really makes terrain come alive
Yes I'd love to watch you make custom transfers. Also I love the hand painted, but would've loved to see it get a little dirtied up like the transfers did.
This build keeps getting better and better. It's my fave
theres something so ironic about how beautiful something looks after getting it dirtier! This looks sick! I'm really excited to see it all together! This has been such a huge project! : D
Tiny scripture on Armour looks good.
For walls etc? Lots of tiny posters etc available on reddit
Damn those free hands look incredible. The spray cans and posters were a nice touch.
Wouldn’t an airbrush be better than using spray cans? It’d give the same effect but you’d have more control and be less likely to accidentally spray other parts of the terrain.

Definitely prefer the hand painted ones! They look more like actual graffiti.
One way to make custom stencils for your war hammer models is to use cheap vinyl heat transfer material or off cuts, and using a circuit vinyl cutter type out the words you want in a font you like, or pick an image.
Definitely liking the end result.
Printing your own transfers can be a challenge, but can be fun as well

Custom made/kitbashed 40k trains would look sick as terrain pieces, and a whole board with moving trains would be amazing.
Wow! What a great idea!
I really like the hand-painted ones.

I really enjoyed the cathedral series. Would love to watch another big project done by you and/or the team.
Looks great! Especially the hand painted graffiti. Looking forward to seeing this terrain used in a Kill Team battle report.
That freehand stuff at the end is amazing!
You can get blank decal sheets in white or clear that can be printed on using your own laser or inkjet printer. I think the inkjet ones may require another step (varnish).
Awesome video, loved it! Also a video showing how to print custom decals sounds great.
Ha well Jen I loved your hand painting the best !
There’s a fair bit of tonal whiplash between the cold open intro and the “It’s Tabletop Time” opening.
Makes sense for the channel but have to admit it took me by surprise.
haven't watched it yet but know this is gonna be a good one
Would be awesome to see how to produce custom decals !! From design to print and apply !
Very cool resluts. Im surprised you didnt head into Melbourne to check out some of the laneways in the CBD for inspiration too.
“hello yes? Inquisition? Yes, this video right here”
Custom transfers sounds like a fantastic video idea!
Absolutely do your own transfers and share the method. I would happily watch the heck out of that.

Why cut stencil by hand, when Jazza has laser cutter?
Because Jen is a badarse

Awesome, I think the best is hand painted looks amazing
Really makes it feel lived in! Great job!

I would love to see you make your own custom decals!
You just get better with every video
YAAAAAS custom decals ba-by!
Would using an airbrush work better than a brush to paint the freehand graffiti, it might give the rattle can look better than brushes? Just a thought
The hand painted graffiti was my favorite.

where did you get the little spray paint cans
Can't wait to see more of your Tyranids😎
Have you ever thought of starwars legion, I'm just getting into miniatures because your channels are so cool and I love starwars so I thought it's a good way to start. I also want to dive into warhammer eventually. Great job and really awsome content❤🔥
I think it would be cool if you all make an army of taggers to add to your battle reports. They would be their own underground rebel troops.
For graffiti you can't go far wrong with paint markers, used them for some Necromunda terrain to do various graffiti and its pretty effective and easy.
“Rad teen Jen” made me laugh so hard😂
I am actually disappointed you did not make custom decals, it is crazy simple. The beginning of the video really made the impression you would.
Sponging on stencils works great if the stencil is made from masking tape
I'll be honest, I feel like these graffiti designs are a bit too modern, like some scofflaw in the 42nd millennium would have some different and wild way of tagging something rather than the Detroit special
I love “the emperor lies” phrase, another one you can do, is “traitor” in blood and have bloody hand prints around
The Emperor Neglects is my new favorite saying.
I love the intro so much
You should get a Cricut Maker 3 cutting machine, very useful for all of these applications.
Hand painted was IT!
Try copy paper stencils with "temporary stick" spray glue, and an airbrush! 😁
I'm surprised you didn't try the stencils with the air brush. It would have given you a little more control / less overspray than the aerosol cans. (Then again, i've never used an airbrush, so there are probably drawbacks that I'm not thinking of)
Neat graffiti. Now I feel that this needs a few piles of garbage in a few corners. Crumbled up poster, newspaper, beer cans?
Looks amaIng
Misuse of war paint is punishable with being sent to a penal legion. However the tech priest has been impressed by your skills and wants you to paint chapter icons for the lamenters chapter. Enjoy making checkered patterns for the rest of your sad life.
Lementful life*
Lol
Lmao
Love the lamenters
hey, love this project looks sooooo cool.
have you got the windows for sale or the stls so I can print them would love to add the stained glass windows to mine.
if not would you be able to give me the sizes of them please
many thanks
steve
The Murray Gholas are getting more rebellious it seems
Hey, love the videos c: I enjoy the extended cast and all of your personalities
THis looks amazing
I was waiting for this and UA-cam didn’t show it to me in my sub feed 😡
love'n that...please make custom decal video
I wish jazza was involved in more videos on this channel
The hand painted ones were the best. The transfers still looked too crisp even with the weathering that they stuck out like a sore thumb to me. Perhaps use some sort of tape with a backing on it so you can draw it, cut it out then peel the backing off to place it on the surface.
yay for Jenn!
Looks fing awesome 👌
5:00 you are correct
The sponge technique would of looked great, maybe next time use a vinyl material to cut the stencil, the stencil won't absorb the wet sponge
a cutting machine like a Cricut or Silhouette would have made the stencils way easier
Cool video, but i still wonder who this Alpharuis should be :P
this is pretty cool
I think it would look better (and if I'm being completely honest easier) to just freehand. Also, it would probably be a lot easier to put on graffiti before putting on medium/high weathering
I don't think actual 40k human graffiti would say Alpharius lives though. I think chaos cultist stuff or genestealer stuff would be more obtuse. I'd love to see some loyalist stuff thrown up there too...reflecting a battle for the galaxy through the battle for wall space 😁😍😁
Heresy*
French Jazza, Outback Dave and Gangster Jen. Who will be next?
Is there really any graffiti done on the ground? I don't remember seeing that, and wouldn't it risk fading from being walked over?
Great music again! Does it fit the theme? Absolutely not. But they're all bops.
Also, jesus girl, expense a Cricut or something for those stencils. They're not hideously expensive, and I'm sure it'd get plenty of use going forward.
I've found transfer tattoos a cheap source for DIY graffiti art.
The only thing you are missing is the scribble graffiti if there is graffiti there is this type.
Painting was the best
Skavvys Rool... thems my tags Twist! You knows the Emp’s name means Death
Ahh yes throwing your spray cans on the ground and shouting, the universal call of the graffiti artist 🤣.
