I just want to say thank you for petting your cats on camera, I really hate watching videos and people ignoring their pets while they're talking. and your cats are so adorable we want to pet them, so you're actually petting them for us. so once again thank you.

Go buy a window squeege and a painter exstension pole to maintain the solar panels. You have nice little set up for sure. Need to double the amoutn of wood you keep on hand for sure. I would go buy a large cooler and put batteries in the cooler in the winter to reduce freezing issues with the batteries.

    Howdy Jenna,
That's about how much snow we had fall in southern Ohio a few days ago. First time I had to shovel this season. I don't care for snow either, except on Christmas and maybe New Year's. Ramsey didn't seem to mind you going out and cleaning the solar panels and splitting the firewood. He was so nice and courteous, he let you sweep up all his cat hair with your new sweeper too. Well the arctic blast is coming to an end and tomorrow it's getting above freezing. We're supposed to get a lot of rain later in the week. I'll take rain over snow and ice any day. Hope your wood holds out and your diesel heater keeps running. Stay warm and think spring and good fishing weather.
    Take care, Steve.

We had our share of snow this month with rain. Supposed to get some snow/ mix rain tonight in Rio Rancho,NM. Will see. Gotta keep the doggies warm. Not a big fan of the cold winds... snow I can deal with but the freezing winds.. "NOT!" Ha. Stay warm you guys. Keep the cool videos coming. 😊 I just bought my mom one of those wood stove like yours. Working out pretty well. Warms up her home pretty good. She lives up north in Cuba,NM. They get more snow up there. Gotta stock up on firewood for her. She loves the cedar wood getter, heats up better.. I think. She 89 years young. Always gotta keep on eye on her. Checking up on her.

tip for frozen up solar panels: isopropyl alcohol or (denatured) alcohol in a spray bottle will clear those panels in a pinch. will melt snow even at extreme temps. brake cleaner works good too for like defrosting stuff, if it's all you have in the car

Nice setup... // Seeing for the first time- snow on solar panels... I was wondering if they make solar panels that contain heat coils in them? If not, maybe you can jerry-rig something? Or even this: relocate the panels by putting them right above where the wood stove is inside. Obviously this would have to happen when it is warmer out.

Hi Jenna, i'm a new subsriber of your channel when UA-cam suggested it to me. Now i can bingewatch all of your video's :-)
Maybe already mentioned this tip, but for the hot ashes, if you can place them in a metal box (cookie box etc...) with a lid that is firmly closed (to prevent odor),
then you can place this box on a tile near your bed and get free heat from it. This can also be done with a metal bin filled with sand, that gets heated up by placing it on top of your stove or next to it. It takes a while before the heat gets to the sand in the center of the bin, but after that, the sand will hold the heat for a certain amount of time.
That's free at the end and costs no extra fuel. Also if you have a gas cooking furnace, you can place a Terracotta flower pot upside down over the flame, this will radiate some decent heat. Greetz from Belgium

Jenna - the Canadian who hates snow. You poor thing. haha
We got lucky here in England. We had a bitterly cold week (-7 is cold for us) followed by a storm rolling in off the Atlantic with a lot of moisture and wind. Whenever we get both at the same time we get snow and the country grinds to a halt and everyone runs around like a headless chickens.
Cool vacuum. I have one of the early Dyson cordless ones, had to replace the battery a few years ago but considering the abuse its had its been a great buy. Stay warm!

Yes don't do that on the ladder it seems funny but the second from the top steps says not a step if that's the case in the very top step is probably also not a step so you're only supposed to step on four of the six step foot ladders I've done it too but when I did it I wasn't doing directional things pulling stuff towards me like snow anyway

  • @benjamincresswell3713

Quite nice. Thank you for sharing the luxury of just lying around for a snow day. It's kind of a loss in a way, but it's Chicken Soup for the Soul. I'm doing it 365/ yr after putting in 104hrs/ wk for 55 yrs. If you have a piece of carpet, you can cut it about 4' X 16" then cut handle holes near each end to make a "one handed" carrier for your fire wood. Also, I've never done it, but I've seen people wrap a bungee cord around a log to hold it together while splitting it. That way you don't stop to pick up each piece after it splits (the scene.) And, with a 2nd hatchet you can hammer a stuck axe-head thru w/ out removing it to swat it again. To clean my woodstove viewing window, I bunch up a couple paper towels and dip them into just plain water then wipe the window while it's hot. It steam cleans the glass, and the buildup of smoke comes right off. Warning: You have to have some heat resistant gloves, think "thick," cuz it is steam, it will penetrate and burn pronto. It doesn't hurt the glass, I've been doing it for at least 15yrs.Ok, YL, nice to see you and kitties carrying on. Keep Warm, Be Happy & Stay Pretty. ben/ michigan

Most impressive, and important part of the new vacuum is that it won't blow the ashes from your woodstove all over the room when you turn your back on it! Pretty impressive little unit, I'm going to have to remember it for the near future because my kenmore one takes about 15 amps or something crazy like that lol.
Hey, if you still want to see my cute little black (going very grey) pug, I have a very short clip of him up on my new channel (East Coast Off Grid). I've been playing around with getting the channel setup. Not much to do with it yet, but I figured I might as well play with the setup of the channel now since it's winter, and I'm not going to go work outside lol.

Oh, and ya. That ladder freakes me out. I'm not saying I wouldn't be doing the exact same thing myself, but there's just something about seeing someone standing on the top (the part that always says "No Step? that we ALL step on) in the snow that makes it seem a lot worse than it is. It might also have something to do with me having fallen off a ladder myself this summer 🤫

Your video showed up on my feed and i watched one..then i was hooked! You remind me so much of my daughter, shes very independent..hard working..lives alone with her 3 dogs and 1 cat, and she is always doing some project around her house..between working and taking care of her animals and house i dont think she ever sits down...and you seem to have the same sense of humor...just wanted to tell ya that..

Embraces the snow. It’s helpful to keep everything wet in the spring into summer. No forest fires is a
    Plus.

I use the ashes to melt the snow. I spread it on the walkways I need.

It's also great for getting a stuck vehicle out if snow if u spread it around tires

Absolutely love Ramsey and Rory and I'm glad to see you also have conversations with your cats if they answer us back we would be rich and then we would be in trouble with some of the talks we have or what they see us do.😂

We live such identical lives, only I have a dog and no cats, lol! I have a snow remover thing that I think everyone living like us should have. I don't know what it is called, but it has a foam scraper that works well on light ice. I have a couple of winter rv videos that show it. Works great on the car too. Does your new vacuum work ok on the wood chip debris that tends to gather? I have a big vacuum and it isn't ideal for the rv, but it sucks well 😆 Hope spring comes early for both of us! Best wishes!

Hello Miss Jenna , I'm your neighbor in NB. Ya gotta let that stove hump to keep cap from gathering creosote. Mine is in basement easier for me than you living next to yours. Id blame that happening on not breathing over wet wood. I never saw your wood hiss yet
Congratulations on your goals you're doing amazing. Love all your videos. Thank you
