    I just did my oil change from Mercedez it was close to 800 dollars. I check how much it would cost me to do the oil change myself and to my surprise it was . Well under $150.00 . Using quality material. I check his video and for sure . Dealers do like ripping people off and that’s how they lose repay customers. Thank you for your content . I thought Mercedez only had the oil for their trucks I did like the fact that it was for 10,000 miles . Which is why I ala ways went to them. But look like im going to go back and service my own vehicle again.

    Great video. Just a tip for those new to European cars. Oil must meet the spec required by the manufacturer (not just the grade but the SPEC). Both grade and spec must be correct and it will always be full synthetic (not conventional or semi). Grade ex. 5w40 spec 229.5. I use LiquiMoly, Motul or European formula Castrol (made in Belgium not the USA). These fit the longer drain intervals authorized by companies like Mercedes. I also don’t ever go 10k miles on an oil change. Doing it yourself lets me use a higher grade oil without cost concerns.

    • @pinkcaddygarage267
      @pinkcaddygarage267  Рік тому

      Actually, that is the spec for the AMG engine, either 0W-40 or 5W-40
      For the the non-AMG, the manual calls for viscosity based on ambient operating temperature...anywhere from 0W-40 to 20W-50.
      Check page 307 in your Owner's Manual if you have one.

    Was there a crush ring on the oil pan bolt? I have a new GLS450 coming in a week and will be doing the oil changes myself. Thank you very much for the tutorial!
    (Never mind- I see the answer (no crush ring) in an earlier response from you to a viewer).

    • @pinkcaddygarage267
      @pinkcaddygarage267  3 роки тому +1

      Off the top of my head, I honestly don’t remember. I’m pretty sure there was one on the bolt and that I reused it because there was no new crush ring supplied. It’s working fine and there are no leak issues. Eventually I would say both the bolts and the crusher ring need to be replaced to prevent leaks in the future.

    Money was never an issue for me when servicing my cars at dealerships but started to have doubts whether they actually performed all the things they stated and I caught them cheating! I drained the oil myself, unscrewed the cap on oil filter, made a mark on the filter and put everything back on. Then took my 2019 GLS450 to the dealership and they hit me with $9400 estimates for work urgently needed to be done, that being lower control arms needed to be replaced, left axle boot was torn and regular service. I refused repairs but asked to do the 40k service only($640). Brought the car home and looked at it myself, there was absolutely nothing wrong with control arms, no knocking, nothing, 40k on the car!Axle boot had lots of grease on it, torn right? I got suspicious the grease was “fresh” and clean. I wiped it off clean and 7k miles later to this day still no sign of grease! Then I drain the oil and unscrewed oil filter cap… and lo and behold my old oil filter I marked was still there!!! Of course I went back to the dealer and complained to no avail. No more servicing my car at a dealership!!!!
