Like most people, I watch a lot of videos; this one is excellent! The audio is great (clear and loud), the technician explains and shows each step he performs in a professional and no nonsense manner (he is serious and not goofy, not making stupid and silly faces, eye pops, jokes, or other annoying and unprofessional juvenile antics), and he THANKFULLY does not play mind-numbing background music that overpowers his voice. Thank you. First class presentation.
Purchased: August 2023 - still works GREAT!I ua-cam.com/users/postUgkxxsUnXhGsSJLim_XnMHyQK0u3XVaW-CGn live in a studio and during the summer it gets scorching hot - really old building with no ac units. I can’t express how EASY it was to install. This unit has been a life savior during the summer and some days during other seasons where it can still be a bit warm at night. In this small place is my friend, a husky, poodle mix and myself. We need AC - lolI don’t use the dehumidifier option - I’m not sure if it will leak in my house, since I did not install the small draining hose that came with it. May look into it late but I don’t worry about much humidity in the apartment. I don’t understand why the negative reviews since all things mentioned, I personally did not find issues with. Definitely worth it!
I'm not even a HVAC Tech. But you kept this video interesting enough for a Homeowner to enjoy watching until the end. I would probably do 90% of this job comfortably. I was just trying to understand my unit better. Thanks for sharing, your an Amazing teacher with an easy to understand tone.
Hey I own a stud finder sir, worked 9 months under a licensed electrician and did some college for dropped it because of math requirements. I could wire a whole home hot tub, 4 way switches, ground a house but the schools math made me quit! Pipe bending is not a math requirement! It’s simple observation!
It is a math requirement... wtf are you talking about? It's algebra for most things and for pipe bend it's basic math to calculate shrinkage. I'm not here to talk shit to you but I'm here to tell everyone who doesn't know any better what you said is simply untrue.
I came here to review mini split installation procedures. I've watched maybe 40 or more vids from the other youtubers and had high expectations for Craig....... Of course I was not let down. Perhaps the best teacher of HVACR principles on the internet. Thank you Craig for your continued dedication to conveying technical craftsmanship and promoting ethical behavior for the new guys entering the trade.
Craig, I have to say this is the most professional and quality full install of a mini-split on UA-cam. You did a great job and will help many viewers who want to install their own unit. Have a great weekend! 😀👍
This helped me DIY install a mini split. Other than paying for electrician, everything else was DIY and its working fantastic. I really appreciate the attention to detail on the lineset evacuation. I almost guarantee theres tons of hack hvac techs out there who dont bother the small steps like turning the valves on and off to release air trapped in them, purging all the lines properly. My unit is running fantastic...now after $1000 worth of tools to get here between vac pump, manifolds, nitrogen tanks, micron gauge, valve core removers, vacuum hoses...almost feel like I need to install more!!!
I'm in the same boat. I dropped some money on the proper tools. I eventually want to put minisplits all over my home and get away from ducted ac. It should be a worthwhile investment eventually. I installed my dad's mini split recently, so that definitely felt good.
Ordered mine yesterday, it will take 2 weeks direct from Senville. My head unit will mount to my living room wall which is an exterior wall, right above the condenser unit pad. I hope to make an installation video. The use of the PVC “Sleeve” around the copper, electrical and condensate lines is brilliant, so I will definitely do that. I’ve been watching these installation videos for tricks and hazards and this has been one of the most educational.
best install video i have found. Cutting corners on hvac installs is very common, and carries a large financial and environmental price. systems that get onstalled once and run for years without problems get this kind of attention to detail.
Anyone think Craig is NOT Italian raise your hand... because his are moving like crazy. Awesome explanation of all the steps Craig. Thank you. Brought your book down here to Brazil for reference. Had to rewire everything the "HVAC Techs" did at my new construction. The work they did is horrible. Our builder said they are very good comparatively and expensive. I told him they'd be the hacks in USA. I paid them $1460 Brazilian dollars (about $300 USD) for the install of four 18K units. Our construction crews ran the line sets and electrical wires while building. Pressure test...nope. Vacuum...nope. Wire connectors...nope. One bolt, not tightened holding two of the units on the outside wall bracket...yep. All the ground wires from four units spliced to one that goes to the service panel...yep. Mini splits fail down here all the time, can you guess why? Oh yeah, no license necessary to be an HVAC installer or tech. So for all those that complain in the USA about the steps to become one there is a reason. Thank you again Craig for your years of dedication to this industry. Your information is always presented in a very professional and clear manner. Muito Obrigado from 5000 miles south.
I have to add yet another note of thanks to the large pile of them in the comments section. Craig, I must have watched this video 3-4 times to take in all of the detailed information you provided on this installation. You helped me immensely as I added a Pioneer mini-split to my garage this weekend. Thanks!
Even though I have done jobs like this many times before, I watched it so I could compare notes. Nice professional installation. Good video also. Thanks.
Excellent tool layout! Those who don't already own this stuff for other DIY work should know that you can use the vacuum pump etc on your cars and trucks too. If you weld using shielding gas (other than CO2) you can and I have used argon or MIG mix to pressure test HVAC systems if you don't already own a nitrogen cylinder and regulator (I get cylinders/regulators/caddies cheap used, cylinders are filled by exchange most times) since the nitrogen regulators used for HVAC have the same cylinder valve threads as welding gas cylinders. It doesn't use enough shielding gas for the cost to matter and welding shielding gas is technically even more inert than nitrogen which is used because it's plentiful and dirt cheap. Working on my own trucks paid for my equipment the first use and I've done several since.
This video couldn't have come at a better time for me !!! I am so lucky. I follow all videos of AC Service Tech LLC and had already watched almost all videos related to vacuuming lines, nitrogen pressure testing lines, and tips and trick videos. But this one should help me validate, whatever steps I had planned to do based on watching multiple videos, were they correct or was I missing something. Lots of credit to the channel host
Thanks Craige I used your guide to do my first install. i added a couple of extra steps to my install and purged the lines with nitrogen before tightening the high side flare nut and after pressure testing I released the nitrogen down to about 1-2 psi then hooked up the vac pump and slowly purged the remaining nitrogen through the vac pump fittings as not to allow any moisture back in the lines. I pulled a deep vacuum very fast without much rise after closing the valves. My unit is a Mitsubishi Bronte 7.1kW Reverse Cycle Split System.
DUDE. Your videos are absolute GOLD for me. I just graduated and got my EPA and your videos are super appreciated. Got your book off amazon. Thank you so much.
Wonderful, it was like a real workshop definitely worth alot. After watching your videos i have installed an ac split unit for my brother with zero experience and it's working excellent. Thank you.
best instructional mini split unit installation I have seen on youtube. Very clear and concise voice , clear video and close ups on key A/C parts and not once did you demonstrator veer off the content subject . A+
I admire your presentation method which has helped me to understand the fundamentals involved in this trade. Keep up your effort & many thanks to all the videos you have created so far.
I usually leave a little more slack in the lineset where it meets the outside unit. That way if there is a scratched flare or bad flare it has enough pipe to redo it. Nice job.
Excellent most detailed, thorough and proper step by step to install it RIGHT! Wonderful instructions. Should be mandatory before installing a mini split!
Great job! I appreciate your attention to detail and the clear explanation of everything you were doing. I thought about jumping to another video about half way through but you kept it interesting and I watched to the end. This is a very good example of a professional installation and you made it look easy. I have installed a few dozen Mitsubishi mini splits and I can tell you it's usually not easy!
This video is great, thank you for not skipping the small steps & thoughts which get deleted by other videos. I'm not saying your technique is right, wrong, or otherwise, but I've never seen anyone determine where the s studs in a sheetrock wall like that. I've always used a 1990's era Stud Finder with 4 red LEDs, and it's rarely failed me. Anyway, thanks again for the knowledge!!
After watching this video, I feel confident to intall a minisplit system. Thank you for the flaring tips . Your chanel is very informative, I love it. Thank you for sharing your expertise and kwnolege. Good bless you.
Excellent presentation Craig! I couldn’t help but notice the bright orange tag that said the warranty was only valid IF a licensed HVAC person installed it. A lot of people watching this could homeowners so be advised.
Tips for the one time jack hack jobber. I bypassed the nitrogen test. I used luggage scales and the Torque=Force x distance formula for tightening. No nylog, just go slow and secure with flare fittings. Used cheap AliExpress gas detection device along with soapy water for leak test. Good luck to the first timers. It's a thrill after your first successful AC install. This video shows the perfection of install for pro installers but hack jobbers shouldn't be afraid to do it for their own home as a one time venture to save some money.
OMG! Thank you for this video! I have a install coming up that requires 5 heads and I was wondering how to run the condensate lines and this video has solved my problem!! Thanks!!!
Just finished installation of the c-h mini split. what a great help to use the videos. The instructions that came with it is lacking. Thank you ac service tech.
Excellent I watched the entire video really worth the time. Thanks teacher, as always very good videos, keep going with more videos,. Hava a wonderful day.
To start with i tought ypu were a bit boring, but minute after minute ha have quickly realised you are very knowledgeable and I am now konfident i am able to do the whole instalation step by step. Thank you for posting this video.
This is great professional instruction. Some of the products sold are giving incorrect torque specs in their installation manual. For instance, I torqued a 1/4 line to 18-20 nm, which crushed the flare and the line exploded ,releasing all refrigerant.
I don’t think it matters. Check the wording it may say up to a so many feet line set. Hooking up a gage set will remove refrigerant. Better to have little more than less for future checks.
Saw a few techniques that could be improved upon for installation efficiency, but that's just me nitpicking...overall, this was an excellent video and one I will refer back to when I decide to install one of these. I went to school for HVAC but never went into the field so it was a great refresher for some of the charging techniques as well. Thanks for putting it together!
Purely clear and straight foward, so educative and to the point. One more thing i liked is ur desire fo a perfect finish appearance on the installations, clean and smart
Very clean install. I do prefer a 3 in hole. Just much easier to feed the lines. And I also prefer line hide with the wall inlet. But those are just my preferences. This channel is a new tech/installers best friend👍
So I've got automotive AC experience and refrigerant handling certs etc. Your video and a couple tools I didn't have and my install was a breeze. Great detail, good info! THANKS
Perfect, I'll be doing that, I have New Stucco so I'll be going onto the roof instead. Minor adjustments however I think it'll work better because the unit will be out of the way and sound... So yep I will buy the Cooper Hunter. Thank you that was a fantastic tutorial, more later!
Great video. I have a mini split sitting ready to be installed. I will probably get an AC pro to evacuate and charge the line but I will do everything else. Thanks!!!
Really enjoyed this step by step installation of a mini split. Please keep doing what you are doing. The install turned out really nice and you did a professional job.
Great video! The only thing I would recommend is that you look into the Slim Duct products for the line set covering. I also install a surge protector on all new mini-split installations.
As always thank you for sharing your expertise with us! Thorough and complete demonstration! Excellent teaching skills! You are my friend, such a blessing to all who listen!
That cardboard piece is my best friend. I used to hate measuring for the exterior hole, I don't know if that is only geared toward Cooper and Hunter but its pretty impressive.
I especially like the way you checked for bubbles after re-installing the valve core. it never occurred to me to do it that way to check that the schrader core had sealed. bueno craig. PS I just got notified from amazon that your book is supposed to be arriving in the mail today :D
Great video Craig. I've installed many different mini-splits through the years and your video is well done. I really like Cooper and Hunter. I spent time with them at their Miami facility and they donated a lot of parts and units for our college program. Thanks for doing a great job.
What an incredible video. If I was a young HVAC student, you're the guy I'd kill to apprentice under. I'm watching (like many others) because I have NO desire to pay someone an obscene amount of money to install a mini-split. My delima is tryign to find someone who will install a really good mini-split (i.e...Mitsubishi), for an affordable price ($4K for a single zone, including the unit). Or, go with a comparably priced unit with a decent reputation like a Mr. Cool and do it myself. An hour prior to this comment I was given a quote for $7500 to install a 12K btu Mitsubishi mini-split in my 500sq ft garage. There's no way I'm paying that. So, my search continues. The problem with the non-DIY units is having the tools. I followed this video to the letter, but, like many others, I don't have the tools. I've always been a "Do it right the first time" guy. But, not it it means $7500 to cool my central Florida garage. With that being my problem, it looks more and more like the Mr. Cool will be the route I go, unfortunately. That said, I can't say I've heard anything bad about those units either. They may not be as good as the high-end brands, but people are still getting 12-15yrs out of them. Thanks again for taking the time. This was an excellent video.
@@acservicetechchannel thanks for the awesome video, doing my unit next week with your help. Quick question what size hole saw and pvc did you use? Do you think that size will work for a 5/8ths lineset as well? Thanks again!.
Really comprehensive information that was easy to understand. Thank you for helping me talk to my contractor with a greater understanding of what needs to be done. 😊
This was very helpful. I am a motor guy and smart enough to know when I am outside my area of expertise, this gave me all the little details I needed to turn my hat backwards and get to work 🙂
Craig, mini split today, the homeowner installed and started up himself with a vac. pump he bought. He had the unit running but decided to tighten down the flare nut extra security. He ended up breaking the flare off. He then front seated the service valves. I made the repair and tested with nitrogen at 275 for 30 minutes, no drop in pressure. Put my 6 CFM vac pump on with fresh oil, and it took quite a while to come down to 480 micron. when I closed off the vac pump (just the same way you did) I had a rise to 1300 microns. this was after I vac pumped it for almost an hour! Only 20 feet of line set. What do you think is wrong?
Did you use a manifold gauge when you vacuum tested? They say any of those hoses or valves could leak. The micron gauge can also leak like he said, and that is why he uses a little oil on the gauge.
Ive installed a few units, one time i forgot to bring stud finder. I took a small fridge magnet and found the existing drywall screws. much easier and accurate.
I thought I would use the magnet when I was hanging the bracket for my TV but the drywall had nails in is from someone hanging pictures and I ended up having to go out and buy a stud finder anyway.

Best Video and presentation I have ever watched on UA-cam. I now feel confident I can install my unit properly.
Also nice having a digital stud finder for beginners! Highly recommend
or you could simply use drywall anchors and put the unit where ever you want ......
So I've got automotive AC experience and refrigerant handling certs etc. Your video and a couple tools I didn't have and my install was a breeze. Great detail, good info! THANKS
Thanks for sharing
Very high production value. Looks like top notch information.
Thanks!!!
@((((ks ျ¿¡¡¡
Just a masterful video, work of art and dedication to clear and effective communication.
Really enjoyed this step by step installation of a mini split. Please keep doing what you are doing. The install turned out really nice and you did a professional job.
Best video on minisplilt installation by far. Excellent. Thank you.
Thank you for taking the time. Great job!
Glad you enjoyed it!
Just setup my first minisplit all thanks to this AC Tech Service LLC Guy!
Great video! The only thing I would recommend is that you look into the Slim Duct products for the line set covering. I also install a surge protector on all new mini-split installations.
I agree
Excellent as as always. Comprehensive and highly educational. Professionally presented. Best HVAC school in the USA.
Thank you for watching, we are so glad you think so!
As always thank you for sharing your expertise with us! Thorough and complete demonstration! Excellent teaching skills! You are my friend, such a blessing to all who listen!

This video made my saturday! Better than Netflix!
Awesome and please let me know what you think of the book after reading it!
Excellence description of what to do and what not to do. Warnings of certain things not seen elsewhere.
Great job man. This makes me much more comfortable installing my new unit.
Hands down the greatest video on UA-cam. Thanks for the knowledge Sir . God Bless .
Wow, thanks!
Great video. Thank you for taken the time to help your fellow man :-) God bless you 🙏🏻
This may be the best video I’ve ever watched on YT.
What a beautiful install. Thanks for sharing your expertise.
The amount of detail in this video is amazing. It must have taken him days to produce the video. Great job.
Yeah, it was a ling long time to record the details!
An extremely well done installation, congrats 👏🏻👏🏻👏🏻
Thanks Eduardo!
@@acservicetechchannel thanks for the awesome video, doing my unit next week with your help. Quick question what size hole saw and pvc did you use? Do you think that size will work for a 5/8ths lineset as well? Thanks again!.
The best video i've seen on this subject. I saw that many were inspired to copy this one.
Dude you are a life saver
Thank you for your support!
Really comprehensive information that was easy to understand. Thank you for helping me talk to my contractor with a greater understanding of what needs to be done. 😊
Great job! How does anyone not like this? Thanks!
Much appreciated!
@@acservicetechchannel I appreciate you!
😍😍😍😍😍😍Can’t get any better than this. Thank you so much for showing us how it’s done. Great video
*Easy to assemble **Fastly.Cool*
Excellent video tutorial. Just to point one thing out, when you check for vertical with a level you are plumbed not leveled. Thumbs way up!!
What a great video! clear views of what you're doing, great explanations, thorough. awesome.
Glad you liked it!
May i know where to get the N2 from?
I've gone through a lot of different Veto bags for my hvacr 90% and this is closer to what i have in mind. Thanks for demo
