I like to mark the level on the oil injection tank. Then after the first tank of premix you can figure out about how much the oil injection is set at or even working at all. Great to see the VMax on the snow.
Thought about it but didn't want to mark up the oil tank haha, I'll keep running er on premix till the tank level drops enough that it's obvious. Thanks for watching again brotha
Nice my dad had a red 95 Vmax 600 with 500 miles that I got stolen and never got recovered anyways since then I’ve always been obsessed with the 94 to 96. Vmax is love the look currently write an 89 ovation 340 I picked up for 50 bucks last month.
That is a beautifulcold machine, i remember when i was probably only 12-13 years old, i was at my friends down the road and some guy showed up to show my friends dad his new sled, and i was in WOW when i saw that shiny new Vmax 540, the biggest baddest sled on snow back then...
I normally run 40 to 1 on new rebuilds. For the first three tanks. Mark my oil tank and make sure it’s dropping. You will go through a plug or two but it’s worth it.
Food for thought, Worked at a Skidoo dealer for 18 years and all rebuilds I did just turned up oil pump mainly because adding oil to fuel leans it out unless you jet up a bit.
These are an odd pump, not like the cat or polaris ones I'm used to, don't seem to be able to turn them up unfortunately unless I'm just looking at it wrong haha
In the mid 80's we had Scorpion Snowmobiles, an 80 Whip 440 to be precise, and I remember when the VMax came out. I wanted my Dad to get rid of those scorpions and buy one right away. He of course said...no. ;)
Just a beautiful sled. Kept wanting to hear it go wide open. 🥳. Make sure the oil injection is working. Top it up before a ride and top it up again to see how much was used.
Thank you for the great work on your videos. It seems to run poo pretty decent, just gotta hope and pray for the best for performance and reliability.stay safe and sound, Peace 👍💯😎
I just rebuilt a 540 vmax ran 50-1 on two tanks my plugs looked exactly like yours, never fouled one. Been running all winter no problems after rebuild. People” subscribe to the fu$king channel”
Agreed, I'm very protective of the seat haha. I'm always careful not to rub up against the yamaha writing on the back of the seat so it doesn't wear off
Did you bleed the oil pump with it running? No way to miss if it's working or not. Put in on a stand and run about 1500-2000 and pull the injection cable out at the carbs. You'll know if it's working because it will smoke like a mosquito fogger. All the oil injected have to be bled that way. same way you set the injection amount by how far you can pull the cable out with no throttle. For instance 7/8 of an inch cable stroke. Tiny air bubbles will slow oil flow enough to blow up an injection sled
Different pump setup than most Arctic cat, Polaris and skidoo pumps I've done. It doesn't have an external lever that can be pulled up while running to bleed it, it's an internal pump inside the recoil housing. Manual says to pull up on cable sheathing which I did but didn't seem to help much. Has a bleed screw but that screw is not accessible once engine is mounted in the sled.
Yes, cable sheathing at the carb until billowing smoke for 5 minutes. If the pump is working, it will start smoking after a minute or so. @@minnowlaketuning
That's one sleek looking sled glad to see older sleds being revived ill ride older one before a new one anyway keep up the vids
Yup she's a beauty, thanks for watching 🤟

Or use a piece of tape to mark the level
@@mnels18 not a bad idea

The rarest of rare right there !!! Outstanding sled !

Yup I'd rather change plugs than the more expensive option haha
@@minnowlaketuningI agree. I use amsoil in mine my oil pump works good had carbs redone runs good.
If Michael Knight had a sled... here it is!😄
Rode an 80 Scorpion TK. My buddy's dad had a brand new '86 V-Max. What a bloody gorgeous rocket!!!
Persistence always pays off - I’d let you wrench on my sled any day of the week - Great video - Cheers from Québec 👍
Thanks man
Been a long time coming, congratulations on being able to enjoy your hard work!
Thanks man appreciate it, yeah its been alot of work that's for sure lol

So cool these older sleds 👍
Thanks man, yeah they really are unique
awesome ride,great work!

Thanks for watching, yep I want to hold er wide too, soon haha
Love old sleds
Sounds good!
She sounds pretty good!
Beautiful muscle sled!!!
Thanks man
We need a gps ride along top speed run for this thing. This is the snappiest 540 on youtube.
Hopefully I get er on radar this season. Depends of we ever get snow lol

Thanks for Watching Eric
Remember, pre mixing gas will actually lean out the a/f ratio because it is not just fuel flowing through the jets anymore
Yup you are correct
Thanks brother good videos 👍👍
Thankyou 🙏
Ya oil injection is not working. Pull up on the cam on the oil pump a couple times to get any air out if it is working.
Beautiful sled l had a 86 v max that I had painted like Tim Benders race sled
He'll yeah

Good to know I'll keep doing the same with this one. If she ain't fouling she's getting the premix, thanks brotha 🙏
Maybe measure the oil level on the reservoir and see if its going down. If it is, then I'd probably mix the next tank at 100:1
Yep next tank will be premix too
Omg. Please take the carb apart on the ovation. (Before I attempt it my self) lol
Dam, unfortunately I already sold it
You need to tune your clutch lighten up your weights a bit
I ran my snow twisters at 20 to 1
Just don't get a tear in that seat! That would be quite the shame
Agreed, I'm very protective of the seat haha. I'm always careful not to rub up against the yamaha writing on the back of the seat so it doesn't wear off
5 month 1989 means its an 1989 not a 1990
Vin and ownerships confirm its a 90
It's a 1990
Kawasaki would have sued them if they were still around.
Darth Vader owned ................
My idiot dad had one of these took it all apart 2 fix it then he got kicked outta his house and it might still be at the redar base lol
Be good idea 2 put a sharpie line 2 see if ur using premix that's usually wat I do
Was thinking about it but didn't want to put a mark on the oil tank haha
No way that's wild
I’d subscribe again if it would help! I will get my daughter to sub, she is a new snowmobiler and loves it!
Haha thanks for the support I appreciate it
When will the top speed testing commence?
Oil has little to do with it burning down.
