    I use to wrestle for northern Michigan university in the 1980s and I would run along the majestic lake at night and watch freighters head out it was so peaceful I really miss living near the big lake I never saw a cop car the whole three years I went to school in Marquette just a friendly place

    The horn's always sound so funny this time of year. I know it's because of the cold, but still gives me a chuckle.

    Great twofer! The Borland sure was iced up, I can’t imagine being out on that lake when it is so cold and windy! It’s a good thing it is about lay up!

    The Boland is just a mite frosty today but majestic as she can be. Certainly was a distinctive salute. I wonder if that is her usual voice or is the cold messing with her? The Mackinaw is loud and clear and looking great. Thanks Paul. Great one.

    I have to say that the horn on the John J Boland made the Lift Bridge horn sound sweet. I hope it is better in the warmer weather.

    Love your work Paul especially the radio chatter on your vids. Got my 2025 calendar proudly hanging in my office. Always enjoy your perspectives of these beautiful Ladies of the Lakes and with the bonus of a "Twofer", just doesn't get any better than that.

    Excellent video as always. Looks like the lake isn’t iced up anymore.

      Our portion of the lake is ice free, the river and harbor is where the ice is. If the flow is out, we get a lot of broken plate ice heading out into the lake.

    Is it just me or do the ships horns always sound so polite and understated while the lift bridge always reply with horns that sound like Ralph Kramden’s mother-in-law?

      🤣I must admit, such a great description! The Bridge has a set of train horns, definitely shrill..

    It was interesting the ladder on the starboard side, running from the bridge to the rail. Boy that Coast Guard ice cutter has one heck of a horn.

    • @PaulScinocca
      @PaulScinocca  18 годин тому

      They lower the ladders when docked, 1 on each side.

    That icebreaker has one heck of an odd-looking deck/superstructure configuration. Great capture of the two ships passage, Paul, as always! Cheers.

      She’s dual purpose her front deck is designed to also service aids to navigation thus the drop deck and crane to work as a bouy tender as well as an ice breaker.

    Quick question from a beginner to the world of ships and shipping. Is refueling of the lake ships always done by going into port, or do they have a choice of port and mobile?
    Also, love that horn on the Coast Guard.👍

    Poor Boland-her horn is a little frozen-sounding. Looks like the calm before the next snowstorm today.

      Not sure, ore when they came up the lake, it was calm and warm. They have been cruising the harbor regularly keeping the channels open.
