Sue the parents for not raising the kids.
Good luck with that. Nobody is forced to use social media.
Also why do kids need their own cell phone?
I have to say that the curriculum is extraordinarily outdated. Hearing her talk about adjusting kids to the curriculum.... Girl you should be adjusting the curriculum to kids. Teach kids about Wellness, how to take care of themselves so that they don't have to rely on economics in order to actually take care of themselves.... Which is another thing you should teach kids how to do, teach them how to manage their damn finances. Stop teaching kids how to code, or at least not the ones that don't want to.... But again, how useful is that to people in real life if someone chooses not to do that for a living. Even learning another language isn't everyone's forte. The school curriculum really does need to focus on teaching people how to take care of themselves in all eight rounds of our required Wellness factors.
How about parents teach their kids responsibility and get a part time job. I’m 40 and I learned about taxes, insurance, managing my finances by getting a job at 14. Kids are not the problem. Lazy parents are the problem.
Tell that to Ford. The government makes the curriculum. Teachers are forced to work with whatever the ministry of education makes. Developing a new curriculum also costs $$$. So ultimately it's the tax payer who foots the bill for that.
I experienced bullying in school daily and this was long before smartphones and social media.
Yup, didn't stop after school years.
Also, if you are being bullied, why not turn off the channel? Why are teachers and guidance personnel not telling students how to combat bullying?
@@dinkster1729 Bullying was a problem long before social media. Next to nothing was done about it in the past, which is why it is so much worse today.
Lawyer doing it on contingency. Big fish on the hook. That explains the motivation more than concern about children. IMO.
No the parents or the teens are causing the harm to themselves.
I don't blame the bar owner or liquor store for alcoholics and try to sue them cause a alcoholic bullied me on a bus.
That's insane.
We're talking about children here.
@@gingerelle101 Yes then that's the parents responsibility like I said.
@@thimblemunch24
Your parents failed you.
The main problem is the parents of the delinquents.
Parents also addicted to these apps. And we need protect people from themselves so restrict addictive things like these apps, gambling, alcohol, smoking, drugs…
@@SAVAGELIVEMEDIA You have issues.
I certainly hope we are teaching our children about the harms of yellow journalism! As we are having to deal with it on a daily basis from Trudeau’s paid off MSM.
social media is not causing harm to students. parents and teachers are causing harm to students because they are not setting and following through on rules and taking away phones when they are not to be used. if a student is using a phone in class take it away. all the symtoms she is describing is common among students and the school board is trying to make money since their budget seems to be shrinking. and the lawyers are looking for a payday.
The real harm to Corporate media outlets like the Canadian Broadcasting Corporation is the amount of money that social media is stealing from their revenue. 🤣
In a civil case, the party that is wronged must sue for damages. So its the parents who should have a class action suit.
The school boards may mean well, but they are not the injured party.
How can a parent, who spent a thousand dollars on a smart phone for a CHILD, sue the companies that make the apps their fkn child is addicted to?
I'm not sure what this has to do with a school board. There's a debate to be had about limiting or banning phones and these apps from being used in school during school hours, and in growing awareness of the need for parents to step up about their children's use of these devices/apps, but I'm not convinced yet from these videos that a school board has any legal place in this sort of dispute.
It's reminiscent of an era from the 1980s, where educators grappled with the emerging awareness of mental health challenges among students but lacked adequate resources or strategies. During that time, there was a notable outcry against activities like the Dungeons and Dragons board game, fueled by unfounded fears that it was inciting violence among youth. Perhaps, instead of pointing fingers at external entities, school boards should engage in introspection, acknowledging their own historical missteps in addressing mental health and taking proactive measures to enhance support systems within educational settings. Blaming external factors without addressing internal shortcomings only perpetuates a cycle of ineffective response to pressing issues.
I remember when educators were worried about kids watching too much TV when most people only had 3 or 4 channels coming in. It's always something.
Then dont buy them a phone with apps, buy a plain phone,
How about making all social media only available and usable by credit card holding adults.
You want Meta and co to have your credit card info?
The schools & teachers have brought all this on themselves , every single issue happening at schools are completely the fault of unqualified teachers & administrators. There isn't a single teacher from even the 80s/90s who would have this issue simply because they demanded respect and had rules that had consequences... No phones allowed in my classroom , they are to stay in lockers or bags . Anybody caught on phone will spend 1 hour after school cleaning the hallways with the janitor.
Perhaps if the school Boards had the guts to enforce the cell phone rules in school and provide consequences for students, teachers would have a better chance to actually teach.
Sueing the social media platforms is not the Boards' business. Regulating online access is the responsibility of the parents/guardians.
schools need to have policies that students cannot have a cell phone in schools. Teachers it is partially your fault and monetary compensation will not fix anything
Pushing blame. LOL " Takes a Village to raise a child." MANY people talking calmly for an end GOAL. The Goal...a person that has many interests .
Other school boards will be getting on that wagon
Why no comments on issues of contention.
We pay your wages and you turn off comments.
When I click onto a cbc story or ctv global, as soon as I see the comments turned off move on to the next video
How about schools hold PARENTS & STUDENTS accountable?
And teachers. I think certain posts on You Tube could be a great teaching tool. I must admit I don't have much time for fb friends who post photos of themselves and their loved ones or their dogs who have died at 16. (I don post a teary face though for the dogs who have died. It only takes a second to give a e-hug.)
I remember when they used to blame magazines. I feel old.
this is nothing like that.
I remember when they blamed TV and we only had 5 channels coming in where I grew up and that was considered a lot.
When will parents be held accountable for their children and their children's behaviors? Maybe parents need to lead by example.
If the Canadian government and other Canadian institutions keep going after the profits of the social media platforms then they will some day just pull out of Canada. OMG what will Canadians do then??? No social media, their world will collapse. There was a time when social media did not exist.
We are held accountable for everything. We're blamed for everything and left to fight society's decadence on our own.
If you don’t win, then I’m never taking School Seriously.
Point taken on social media being a disruption for kids. However, we the public have also noticed a change in educators behaviour, curriculum, and board policies as well. The plethora of DEI, CRT, and SEL being forced onto our children and school staff is as damaging as addictive smartphones.
This is politically motivated and an over reach of power. Also is the taxpayers paying for this? Teachers are getting scared of students having too much knowledge at their fingertips. 😮
Probably. As a trained librarian, now, almost 75 years of age, I think this is an example of censorship. I'm also a trained teacher with no recent experience though. How can chalking and talking compete with a You Tube video? or an intelligent discussion on face book? On the other hand, what are some students watching and reading? I think you have to attack propagandistic media with the facts. You have to present the other side. If I were a modern teacher, I'd use social media to educate my students. I'd assign them You Tube videos that reinforce what I'm teaching, not demand that students watch my probably inadequate performance in front of the class.
No, the lawyers are working on contingency
Have you hugged your child today? LOL How many interests do your children have that you can support? Guess there is more than one. Thinking we need to support how many different things they can be interested in. Maybe too SIMPLE?
This video was recorded on a kids phone in class. For all the people saying "ban phones". ua-cam.com/video/r0ADgBclZXo/v-deo.htmlsi=HzL6b88Mil2tEOvj
Welcome to the Canadian dsytopia
I imagine journalists and other media folks are having a field day with this one. I have always suspected teachers don't really want to learn much about the modern world and here's proof.
Well boo hoo hoo
first
Canadians will not be bullied from all bad narratives from certain group companies thanks to the advanced social media to entrich the knowledges of Canadians.
