Fisher Random is the real savior of chess. Chess was becoming a Memory game rather than a Strategy game. Bobby Fischer is saving chess even after his demise
The brain and hand misconnection Magnus mentioned, it's kind of true. It happened to me last night playing online. It's some kind of visualizing the future position and forget about the actual present, so you end moving the wrong piece in this time present.
It's not just "kind of" true, it happens all the time. In german, there's even a word for it. It's "Fingerfehler", when don't make the move you want to play, but the one you're thinking about (usually the next move down the line). It happens at all levels too, obviously. To prevent that from happening, coaches used to tell the kids to "write down your move on the score sheet first, then play it", but sadly, that's not allowed anymore (except in special situations like when you're claiming there's a repetition).
I do this all the time. And I play daily chess so it's extra embarrassing. I spend thirty minutes calculating ten different variations only to play a move that's supposed to happen three turns later in the critical line.
Fischer Random is the real game, requiring pure talent, not preparation and stuff like that! Congrats and hope you will win this championship. I definetely believe you are top 3 natural talents for last 15 years, so it wouldnt be a surprise for me at all. Keep going!
What i love about these videos is they highlight the incredible depth of analysis which goes into key moves, even in the case of the first game, black's first move. Watching outsiders see only the result, and in many cases the observation is "that seems reasonable", not recognizing other "reasonable looking" moves could go very wrong. Congrats to Hikaru on the incredible match and I wish him luck against Federov, who is clearly a formidable opponent, and after beating Magnus it would be tempting to try and relax a bit.
There are worst blunders by him and others, it is still something human, to blunder. Magnus needs a bit more time to play, he was constantly looking for thr board that shows when they get the 5 extra minutes
Hikaru: the idea is very simple... Also hikaru: *explains 4 different 7 to 10 move long lines behind why he moved his piece* Me, a meer mortal: yeah i get it
I wouldn’t be surprised if Fischer Random becomes the standard for competitive chess eventually. It kinda seems like all these pre-calculated lines memorized take a lot of the spirit out of the game
Congrats Hikaru. Nice win and great chess. It's always a bit sad when someone blunders because of a brain fart and I like Magnus too but I'd rather see you win the tournament. Good luck on the rest of your games.
I saw Magnuses blunder on the board before Fiona and Irina noticed it and I assumed it was a glitch in the broadcast. Then the shock set in and I realized legit blunder. interestingly Agadmator showed an even stronger engine line than the move Hikaru said Magnus would find in a classical game. great game, great win for Hikaru
