    It's a little unfortunate that minimalist shoes dont have minimalist pricing. I really want to try xero but ive heard not so good things about durability and they are a little expensive

    • @thatfitfriend
      @thatfitfriend  Рік тому +44

      It’s always ironic to me how shoes with less materials end up costing so much. How many times I’ve spent $150 plus for Vivo shoes for review 😅

    • @andrewhuff2640
      @andrewhuff2640 Рік тому +13

      Yeah I would avoid xero. Not only are they not any cheaper, the shipping is slooooow, they're still made in China(not ethically sourced) and they are very cheaply made. The founders are definitely raking in the cash but for the customer, they kinda suck.

    • @thatfitfriend
      @thatfitfriend  Рік тому +15

      @@andrewhuff2640 hear ya, but fyi most shoes that are more premium/high-performers are made overseas. You’d be hard pressed to find a model made in the US that doesn’t cost an arm and a leg.
      I’ve looked into building shoes and more and more I learn how the US’s capabilities just aren’t there yet. Plus, to build models fully in the US they’d be wicked expensive and then you’d have people just complain about the price which is a whole other issue 😂
      (Not sticking up for Xero, just shedding thoughts on what I’ve learned with trying to build shoes over the last few months)

      @@andrewhuff2640The China things doesn't bother me too much because if I only bought ethically sourced shoes I would be legit barefoot. Xero shoes at least look like normal shoes as most barefoot shoes look a little goofy imo, the Whitting are no exception. I can't pull the trigger on Xero bc of the poor quality (from all the reviews) and high price so I'm stuck for now.

    Writing this comment for the few people not being 100% sold on the footshaped shoes because of the weird look:
    it's weird only when you directly look at them when you wear them. The wide toebox disappear the moment you see them from any angle that's not right above the shoe. So don't be scared that they will look goofy. They look like that just for you, for anybody else they look like a normal shoe. ;)

    I have a black pair of the casual version and they look great after 2 months use. Had to take the insole out immediately in order to fit my high volume feet and they feel quite thin (low stack height). I tried on lots of models from Xero as well as the Vivo Primus Lite III, but none were wide enough for my feet to fit comfortably. These are so flexible they do the job for the price especially

    I have 2 Whitin and 1 Hobibear, which are probably the same shoe, in the wide width and love them! I tried them on when I got my first pair and told my husband these are so comfortable! I had bought 5 pairs of traditional sneakers and returned all of them, then I found Whitin. I’m going to be 70 on my next birthday and am not active in the gym anymore due to significant spine degeneration and wear these as everyday shoes. I’m used to going barefoot or wearing knock off Birkenstocks so these feel very natural to me. My step son is looking at a pair for everyday wear and the gym.

    I have a pair of whitin barefoot shoes. I didn’t know what a barefoot shoe was, I just looked up “sock shoe” because I saw a pair at Payless YEARS ago and thought I’d like a pair for the gym.
    I quite like them. I stopped wearing them because I wanted something slightly more structured. I thought about a pair of regular barefoot shoes, and I didn’t know they were a-semi established brand. I’m happy I found this video.

    I wore out my sketchers slip-ons and needed a new casual shoe. Since I stopped working over a year ago I'm barefoot 90% of the time and decided to explore minimalist shoes. I kept struggling to pull the trigger on shoes that were $100+ that I intended to just wear for running errands or hanging out around my neighborhood or while camping. Once I found these shoes I felt a lot better about saying yes and I'm glad I did.
    I think these shoes feel really comfortable, like a supportive hug on my feet. My feet feel GOOD when I'm walking around in them. I installed elastic laces on mine so I could just slip them on - can't get any better. I am also happier with the thicker sole - sorry, barefoot shoes, but I just think it is a bit silly to have little to no cushion when walking on concrete and tile. I think these shoes are a great compromise between getting the needed support & protection for urban environments and the benefits of foot-shaped, zero drop shoes.

  • @CptAngelADVlogs
    @CptAngelADVlogs Рік тому +5

    Lol I actually use mine with thicker socks for walking outside for my job in the winter around freezing temperatures. The thicker sole insulates against the frozen ground (which is what actually gives you cold feet) and the uppers are thick enough to stop the cold even on a motorcycle. For all other seasons I use Xero HFS and Merrell Gloves that are super breathable.
    Overall they're amazing shoes. Basically a FeelGrounds copy at less than half the price and with a properly durable sole.

    I tend to wear out shoes really fast. I'm not sure why, but the Whiten Casual shoes have been unusually durable. After 6 months of use there is minimal wear and I do several 5 mile walks each week- even the sole is barely worn after hundreds of miles walking on asphalt. I've been trying to find the point of diminishing returns for a barefoot style shoe and this has been it for me. $43 per pair that easily lasts me a year with heavy use is a game changer. Only issue I have is that they are a bit too wide for me, which is surprising because I have very wide feet. My feet slide a little during workouts- it's not a huge issue, just something I'm getting used to. These shoes are also so comfortable that I use them as slippers around the house.

    Jake, i just bought WHITIN Men's Extra Wide Width Casual Barefoot Sneakers Zero Drop Sole W81 Size 12W Minimus Minimalist Tennis Shoes Fashion Walking Blue Gum 45. too tight, I took the inserts out and they were still really tight. I could never wear socks with them and my toes hit the top of the front when walking. I will probably try the next bigger size but i just dont think these are wide enough. I laid the inserts down with my New Balance and they are nearly the same size. The new Balance are 12.5 / 2E. They are narrow too. Thats why I am looking for wider shoes that would be minimalist. I want to make the switch. I walk barefoot in the house all day long and have for 7 -8 years. Wife is Chines and shoes arent allowed. Any suggestions would be greatly appreciated. I like the looks of the Whitin so soething that looked like that only wider would be okay. Thanks in advance

    • @thatfitfriend
      @thatfitfriend  4 місяці тому

      Hmm, I wonder if sizing up a half size would help.
      I'd also try the knit model from WHITIN since that upper tends to have more stretch which gives them a wider fit. Icarus Ascent Gen 2 can also be a great option if you need them casual wear!
      Splay Freestyle can also be a good option and their price point is pretty reasonable.
      If you want something of an in-betweener, then Altra Solstice XT 2 and Topo Athletic models could be worth exploring!
