I was surprised the Dodgers manager did not walk Arraez, the Padres' best hitter. I thought pitching to Arraez was a bad move. Walking Arraez would have put a runner on first and second and set up a double play to end the inning.

For Padres, Luis 1-4 and the other Luis 2-3, other than that, it was a NOTHING. The real problem is not in lacking of hits, but the inability to convert hits into runs. Dodgers do not have the instinct to kill the game with a timely hit when the opportunity is right there (on top of 8th inning). You have 2 runners in scoring position and zero out. A single out of next three batter will kill the game. What do they do? one SF and one double play ...
Why would you have Grove pitch the bottom of the Ninth ? Wasn't anyone else available? That was a complete giveaway!
And this is the month of May. And Dr. Roberts gave him his test and Grove didn't pass it. Now Roberts knows more about what he has in Grove. He'll get another test in the near future and if he doesn't pass it, Roberts will know even more.

Michael Grove ERA 5.91 have no business being a MLB pitchers.
One should never try to get too much out of 1 game in early May. With that being said, Dodgers fans should be concerned because this game reflect why Dodgers struggles in postseason. There are questionable moves here & there by Roberts regarding the pitcher in 9th and walking Luis or not. But the game was determined on 8th inning. With Mookie & Shohei on 3rd and 2nd, zero out. The Padres look vulnerable for the first time in the game and their Pitcher was clearly shaking. This is the time for the Dodgers to take a 2:1 lead and kill the game. What the Dodgers do? They settle for 1.
The Dodgers will win a lot of games by overwhelming the opponents with far more hits and runs. But they will not win many close, low-score games because their inability to convert hits into runs. This game is an example, Dodgers score 1 run out of 4 hits. Padres score 2 runs out of 3 hits (and they have a fielding error to give Dodger an extra "hit"). When the opportunity is there and you do not take it, you typically lose the game. This is why the Dodgers struggle in postseason.
The difference is their best relief pitchers aren't pitching because they got injured and are out for the next few weeks thus having to put in guys who aren't that good.
@@SilverBored20 One can always blame the relieve pitcher. But the fact is that both team had one near identical opportunity to put the game away in 8th and 9th inning. Dodgers did not capitalize it while Padres did. It is that simple.

You can give King all the credit in the world, but the bottom line is that the Dodgers did not execute in another "playoff" game. Friday's game had a playoff vibe and energy. Glassnow and Ohtani, the two new Dodgers, came to play. I hope the rest of the Dodger is up to the task on Saturday.

Knack is a starter - he came up when Bobby Miller went down and went back to AAA when Walker Buehler was activated. Considering him to be the 6th or 7th starter, and keeping him available in AAA, means they hold him in more esteem than Grove. Grove, after having lost the 6th/7th starter position to Knack, is being auditioned for a one-inning relief role. He has done well in that specific role lately, but not last night.

Why don’t they separate the bottom of the order a little bit? When I was younger, you wouldn’t have a power hitting RBI machine batten second. You would have a guy who could hit decent get on base have some speed. Then your best hitters batted third and fourth and tail off from there. This would allow some of those hitters to get a little more protection and better pitches.

Of course the fans are going to be electrified stopping the dodgers dominating 7 game winning streak in a walk off win. Let’s just enjoy baseball I can appreciate the dodgers Betts , Othani, Freeman this is a stacked lineup. This makes a win that much more impressive.

The Dodgers clearly need to add some right handed bats. Teams are loading up on left handed pitching to neutralize them. Add Tyler O'Neill or Nolan Arenado or both. Gavin Lux and James Outman are useless offensively.
