I love that the first couple episodes of this are just you and chat realizing that this requires way more theorycrafting than previously thought. I can't wait for the challenge to conclude only for someone to realize that you could have saved a couple levels at various points for whatever reason(s).
UA-cam does pay me! But of course, it is off and on with gaming content, some video are monetized and some aren't. Either way I really appreciate the support!
I'm seriously loving these challenge runs of late. They've really changed the formula on FF7 challenge runs, which I love. I seriously enjoy your challenge runs anyway, but these are so different. Can't wait to see how this progresses, and I am going to guess about 150 episodes minimum? Especially with the secrets I know from watching the twitch vod but not going to spoil here.
Death... You might want to do the glitch (Junon elevator and Cargo Ship) to actually get the PHS as soon as possible. This will allow you to swap party members at save points. You're going to need to do this to keep the lowest levels possible by swapping members before fights. Underwater comes to mind... There's several forced encounters. You could easily go to the save point swap party members if needed in between each forced encounter to keep only the lowest level member winning the fights and gaining EXP. Plus, it will give you quality of life. Also. I believe if the party members are dead, while in the PHS, they don't collect any EXP. I got to say, this is probably going to take well over 100 hours (maybe even several hundred). You're going to have to rely on stealing items just to sell them to get Gill to buy Phenix Downs and Restoratives... all without killing enemies. You'll need free heals from the Highwind and frequent Inn visits prior to Disc 2.
I think that's probably a good idea, because they'll get 50% exp from every fight, so Death will want to rotate those players so they can stay dead in the party. It's a shame that you can't leave dead parties in the phs, or I should say it's a shame they still get 50% EXP
Although because they're super low level in the party, if it's going off pure level calculations, it might be worth never swapping them, because they will require the absolute least amount of exp to level up, so it could actually end up hurting the outcome. Because if the same party stays in phs their level will slow, where as rotating although less exp over all characters, it may actually prove less effective at keeping the levels low.
@SWISS-1337 I'm not really sure. But Cloud is probably going to have to be dead a lot since he's only out of the party for the first ⅔ of the Huge Materia Quest. By default, he's going to be the highest level character. I still think having the lowest level party at all times possible and killing the two highest level party members during each forced encounter and Boss fights, is the best strategy for maintaining the lowest levels. Unfortunately the earliest opportunity to get the PHS is the Underwater Reactor mission by using the glitches I described. But still, it's probably the best way to manage keeping lowest levels possible from that point on. Thanks for the input. I didn't know dead party members outside of battles got 50% EXP. This challenge is going to require so much micro managing. Including knowing how much EXP is to be expected leading into fights and pre-calculations to know exactly what levels will change as the results. He will probably need to steal almost every fight just to buy his Restoratives. I don't think Ethers aren't available to buy anywhere other than the Gold Saucer Wonder Square by exchanging GP. This won't be an option either. It will start the Cait Sith naming sequence, then you'll end up having to fight Dyne. So he's specifically going to have to farm Ethers from stealing from specific enemies or he'll run out of MP if he uses any high level magics.
I made a comment on last video about beating the game with cloud lowest level at lvl 37 and he was the lowest while everyone else was about 2-3 level up higher…..I forgot to mention I beat the game fairly without any skips. I did go out my way to pick up yuffie and Vincent . That lost number fight at low level is super fun…..I’m happy you are doing this challenge bcuz I want to go back and do a low level run without yuffie and Vincent
Can you put young cloud in the party and then have the other party member equipped with Final Attach + summon or something and then kill that member. Young Cloud would live finish the battle and get no EXP?
From what he said in previous videos young cloud is automatically killed in battle, so I think even if you revived him with final attack the game would still delete him/ remove his hp.
Answer to b_simpson1999: It is possible for a battle to end with all characters and enemies dead. (And it's game over, not victory.) The boss Aps in the next video does a Sewer Tsunami attack that hits himself as well as all of your party, plus there are a few enemies that have final attacks - after they're 0 HP, they perform this act and then get off the stage. If the final attack kills your last party member, it's game over. The bottom line is that you want someone in white or at least yellow figures after the last enemy waves goodbye.
Funny, the level-up bug happened during Aerith's Revenge as well - Lv. 1 Cid got a free bump up to Lv. 2 after a fight. Kinda curious to see if it affects every character at Lv. 1.
A follow-up in my coment from the other vídeo,.. Maybe since you'll catch a chocobo, you might get Magic Hammer for carry armor... Alas, does the minions of the Red XIII first boss fight count for limit levelup count? Might be good tô farm minions there for limit count and use hypers for limits count?
Yes but that BOSS actually USES ITS MP every time those weaker enemies are KILLED so it only has ENOUGH MP to only summon 3 more but yes each KILL that it summons DO count for that but I didn't have ANY ETHER/MP restore items to use on the main boss then. Magic hammer is crap I'd rather KoTR Carry armor to death even at lv 60 with 9999 HP 999 MP.
Oh. Should have finished watching before commenting lol. You did guard skip. Is the 99x Elixir exploit in Snowfield worth doing to make sure you have enough recovery options going in against tough bosses when underleveled?
Knowing Deaths style, I think he'll take 1, leaving the dialogue box up so that if he can't do it he'll come back and get some more, but as twitch chat always says "no babies!"
In the Aerith's Revenge science, you found that you can use bone village to get back to disk 2 after traveling back to disk 1. I wonder if you can use Aerith solo for most of the run, then go back to disk 1 just before diamond weapon, actually do temple to lose aerith permamently, then do Diamond without your XP soak.
Hey, do you know if he uploaded that part to UA-cam? I’m currently trying to get back to disk 1 but I already went through the underwater reactor. I don’t want to go back unless there’s a way for me to get back on disk 2
Yes that's ME and I still won't fight Carry armor without 9999 HP 999 MP party members UNLESS you KoTR it to death even WITH the PS4 remasters's Infinite HP cheat used for the ENTIRE game.
I did some math. If you give all the experience to Barret and keep Cloup and Cid dead for the all game, you should have an average party level of 23. If you decide to recruit Yuffie on disk 3, then your average level will drop to 22.25 since she joins at level 17 if Cloud's level is below 21 (which in my test, he ends up level 10) Now I'm not sure how many icicles you need to defeat but I assume that you need to defeat the first 3. That doesn't affect the final levels that the characters have but it's some experience that can be removed if the goal is to have the least amount of experience. Obviously, this is all according to the fact that the fights are doable. For Schizo, Barret would be level 16, Cloud level 10 and I brought Tifa at level 5 since she had the lowest level at this point. Also, good luck for the pincer attack after Carry Armor as a solo character. We might have to keep another character alive for that fight.
I have an excel file with all the required fights, the experience gain, who lives and who dies. Then there is an automatic calculation for the characters level with the experience table for each characters. I did that when I tried to do the lowest level possible (without any story skip) and I wanted my characters experience to be as close to each other as possible.
Back to the reactor and redo the run lol. Wait why you restarted the game after restarting the run to see if Barrett leveled up? When you get him after the skip, isn't he at lvl1 with 0 exp? And if you were to beat the 1st boss, will he still level up to lvl2? I think by restarting it gives him 10 exp whereas if you just continued and dies to boss, wouldn't be still be at lvl1?
I love that the first couple episodes of this are just you and chat realizing that this requires way more theorycrafting than previously thought. I can't wait for the challenge to conclude only for someone to realize that you could have saved a couple levels at various points for whatever reason(s).
I feel so bad that UA-cam does not pay you. so unfair. You deserve so much support. I look at you as like a FF7 guru. Much respect.

You are correct I went back and watched escape from Junon and young cloud dies instantly. I was wrong, thanks!

Does the sector 6 or 7 skip sa e any xp? The one you do before the 2nd reactor mission? Is I worth considering?
The science is real!!
Back to the lab boys!

I'll still NEVER fight Carry armor even at lv 60 with 9999 HP 999 MP even with the CAN"T DIE cheat used UNLESS you Knights of th rrojund IT to death.
I have to ask, are you the same vegh who'd share the same advice on the GameFAQs message board like 20 years ago?
Yes that's ME and I still won't fight Carry armor without 9999 HP 999 MP party members UNLESS you KoTR it to death even WITH the PS4 remasters's Infinite HP cheat used for the ENTIRE game.
This has GOT to be a meme at this point, there’s no shot it isn’t…
So many Guard Scorpion fights ... are we sure Death isn't accidentally playing New Threat again? 🤭

I think all the party members get revived at disc changes... even if dead. I'm not 100% sure. But I think that's the case.
Now this has me wondering: maybe Barret gets that 10exp because he is considered to be in the PHS when you do the first fight as Cloud? Very odd...
Second
