- HAPPY CHINESE NEW YEAR!! // GONG XI FAT CHAI to our Chinese friends.
Before coming to Pakistan, we spent a year in Malaysia where there is a huge Chinese population. So Chinese New Year is a big celebration in Malaysia.
Since we are in Pakistan, we decided to find a good Chinese restaurant to celebrate and try Chinese food in Pakistan!
To our surprise, there are actually many Chinese restaurants.
Unfortunately we cannot find any info about CNY celebrations in Lahore. But we are glad to dine in one of the best Chinese food restaurants in Lahore (Mandarin Kitchen in DHA Phase 3, Lahore, Pakistan).
Check out our reaction!
We cannot wait to explore more of this country! Pakistan Zindabad!

Wow..amazing
I invite you for a lunch at my home
Actually Pakistan and China have just recently sign a long term FRIENDSHIP together and build many infrastructure, business and mega projects together.
There are many Chinese restaurants in Pakistan in every city. Pakistanis love Chinese food. We make lot of Chinese dishes at home.
its haram
@@MrSam-mg5ut not always, actually 🙄
@@MrSam-mg5ut Slapping the shit out of you is not haram.
@@MrSam-mg5ut you mad
@@MrSam-mg5ut We have only halal food in Pakistan. If a food is not originally halal, we switch it up to halalify it.
Fun fact: people who migrated from China to Pakistan a few decades ago to escape the conservative political regime or the one-child policy set up the first Chinese restaurants here. Over time, their flavour profile adapted to the Pakistani palate, which meant ramped up spices, basically. The second wave of restaurants was owned by Pakistanis, because by this time Chinese food had become super common in cities. What you're having is Pakistani Chinese food, but I don't know who the owner of this particular establishment is. Going to a Chinese-owned restaurant maaaay just give you more of a sense of authentic flavour.
Thanks for the info! That’s interesting!
the fact that Malaysia is still in your conversation and not forgetting the kedah jersey .... amazing
Malaysia is like our home!!
Please do return home some day dear children of my country... You are truly dearest to us already, kong hey fat choy Jetlag Warriors

There is a Chinese community in Pakistan. Not many but they are in all the major cities. They have been in Pakistan for almost a hundred years and speak fluent Urdu! They mostly own restaurants.

Happy Chinese New Year and Gong Xi Fa Cai to both of you in Pakistan.
we miss you two too.. ❤️

It's not necessarily authentic, but it's not "fake" either. Just like there is American-Chinese food such as Panda Express, there is Indian-Chinese and Pakistani-Chinese foods often created by Chinese immigrants using local ingredients. It might not be something you might find in China, but it's worth appreciating and enjoying for what it is. Even the Hamburger was meant to be a take on a German dish. It's literally named after the German city of "Hamburg". And FYI, it's "General Tso" in America.
Happy Chinese New Year 🎉🤗
The food looks so yummy 😋
Happy CNY Steve aka Saiful & Ivana ..Kedah boleh 👍🏻

Yes, many many Chinese restaurants here!!! The menu is different than the one in Malaysia
Chinese food is quite ubiqutous in Pakistan, it is every where. It may not be very authentic, but Pakistanis have always enjoyed Chinese food for 'variety'.

I'm addicted to your food and you two. Keep up the great vlogs!
You guys are great, appreciating food along the way
There is a very large Chinese population in Islamabad. There are several authentic Chinese restaurants such as one next to gol chakkar next to safa gold mall

China and Pakistan have a long history of friendship. China is our iron brother country and Chinese is also taught in our schools. There a lot Chinese here in Pakistan. My neighbors are also a Chinese family. China also has multiple economical projects under cpec in Pakistan. We Pakistanis have deep love and respect for China. We in Pakistan say پاک چین دوستی زنداباد which means long live Pak China friendship.
Really? Chinese is taught in school? Interesting!

Happy Chinese New Year guys. Yeah, Pakistan is a different country with a different environment but than it's best to explore.
Thanks!
In Pakistan you will find three different kinds of Chinese foods. 1. Desi Chinese Food, most restaurants serve this kind of Chinese food, very popular in local population similar to Indian Chinese. 2. Westernised Chinese Food, like mandarin Kitchen, Rice Bowl, P.F. Chang etc. 3. We also have authentic Chinese food Restaurants as well, not too many but they do exist e.g. Dynasty at the Avari Hotel, Red Lotus at the Sheraton and Taipan at the Pearl Continental Hotel(sort of like a mix btw Cantonese and Westernised Chinese Food) 4. Taste of China. Notable mentions. Check out Yum, Novu, and Fuschia Kitchen really popular and good Chinese restaurants in Lahore. Hope u guys enjoy your stay in Lahore.
Im not from Lahore so can't advise on chinese food there. But in peshawar, silver dragon is very nice. And if you go by road to the north, dragon palace in abbottabad is nice (owned and run by chinese)
Wow! Interesting to find so many Chinese restaurats in Pakistan!
Silver dragon is very old restaurant.
We have china town in karachi, one of the best Chinese restaurants along with bambou, ginsoy, chop chop wok 😊
Lol that is not what 'chinatown' means. China town is an enclave inhabited by chinese people in a country where the dominant ethnic group in non-chinese.
Happy New Chinese Year everyone. Love from Pakistan
Thank you!
Its nt at all simple vlog u showing love care friendship respect u hv in ur heart for ur chines frnds . Yes v Pakistani fancy chines food v add our touch spices in2 Chinese food v enjoy chines food in restaurants + prepare in homes with chines recipes.

You can find lots of Chinese restaurants in Lahore but the most authantic Chinese food restaurant is in Karachi named China Town.
I wonder when would you try street food especially Lahore street food. ,Chikar Cholay ( chick peas in black paper and Garam Masala and in served cold with hot Naans (bread ).
My friend from Sialkot told me (5 years ago) that a Chinese guy has opened a restaurant there. It is a 40 seat restaurant and the Chinese guy wears Shalwar Kameez :) Must be authentic food. In Islamabad, there are Chinese supermarkets owned by Chinese for Chinese people.
@@TheDigitalGuru430 there are tons of Chinese restaurants, run by Chinese, in Lahore.
Even Acupuncture clinics. Steve & Ivana need to chit chat with people around. Even the person sharing residence can be a help. Or Google is best friend.
oh really? That is interesting to know about the Chinese guy wearing Shalwar kameez. And also many Chinese that open Chinese restaurants and supermarkets. Cool!
I used to go to the Hong Kong Restaurant in Peshawar regularly when I went to PK back in the 90’s and 00’s. Used to love it there. Hope it is still there!

That potato bowl, Malaysia will use fried yam..
When u visit Gwadar port city u meet chines ,and islamabad to posible but not sure
Another good addition in good vlogs . I've, already, told you, while you are in Lahore. To check the kitchen, chef, dish washing area, food storage standard is your legal right. So, when you have any question, related. You should ask for manager to help you.
Regarding Chinese.
Pakistan has much more Chinese than any other country. Because of the CPEC (One belt one road project). But, they don't have a specific place like "China Town" etc. They are mix in society. Mostly in DHA and Bahria Town.
It is my observation, though.
Looking forward for your next production.
Love from Lahore
The most Chinese I have seen are in Cantonments, maybe they might be Military Personnel on military courses or Engineers etc. Working on CPEC in Balochistan.
oh yes! We forgot!!
Will do next time.
Happy Chinese New year to you and Ivanna
Chinese food modified is very common in Pakistan 🇵🇰
Even in cheap lil fast food 3 in 1 platters in small restaurants and high end restaurants
You can find Thai food in the bigger cities as Thai cuisine is full of spices and hot 🔥 spice level ... you can try Thai at Yum in Gulberg
Enjoy your food and Pakistan guys 😋
"Pakistan has much more Chinese than any other country." This is an over the hill overstatement. In the worldatlas website, it listed 10 top countries with most Chinese outside China and Pakistan is not listed.

It's Hakka Chinese like you get in Canada as well bro !!
Visit restaurant named "kim mon" in Islamabad located in centaures mall. Thats the best chinese food you would find
Try Ginsoy for chinese food.
When i was growing up, in Karachi I can say there were a lot of Chinese restaurants run and managed by Chinese abs as far as I remember they were mostly fro Hong Kong they used to of photography studios, custom made shoe making business etc. I am not sure how many still operate now.
Steve and Ivana you have so far given 5 stars to whatever you ate 😀
ah interesting!
Yes, I guess we have chosen good restaurants. Haha we always check google review before going.
It's called hakka it's a mixed between pakistani flavours and chinese food combined love it so delish
How do you say Happy Chinese New Year in Urdu and Punjabi?
Btw, this is how Chinese New Year greetings in some of Malaysian languages:
Mandarin: Gong Xi Fa Cai
Cantonese: Kong Hee Fatt Choy
Hokkien: Kiong Hee Huat Tsai
Malay: Selamat Tahun Baru Cina
Iban: Selamat Taun Baru Cina
Dusun: Kotobian Toun Wagu do Sina
Tamil: Cina Puttantu Valttukkal
English: Happy Chinese New Year
But what's interesting is that none of the non-Chinese language manage to capture the exact meaning of Gong Xi Fa Cai (Mandarin), Kong Hee Fatt Choy (Cantonese) and Kiong Hee Huat Tsai (Hokkien) which despite its different pronunciation, it all means the same i.e wishing you become richer or in today context wishing you getting more money! So, if you wanna say it in Malay Gong Xi Fa Cai, the correct translation would be Semoga anda bertambah kaya or Semoga wang anda berganda!
Xin Nian Kuai Le is the more accurate translation for Happy New Year.
Kindly correct me if I'm wrong as I'm not Malaysian Chinese. This was told to me by my Chinese friends.
My guess is that Ivana must be Hokkien Chinese since she's a Peranakan. So I would like to wish Ivana and Steve in Hokkien - Kiong Hee Huat Tsai to both of you! More money, more travel, more videos for us to watch! Yeay!
Love your in depth take on it mate. Good job
There I read the word "Salamat" (kind of) in Urdu that means "may you remain safe & sound.
BTW ... To greet in Urdu
SAAL E NOU
MUBARAK
That mean, "wish you a new year with happiness"
Wow you know the many different ways to say Happy New Year!👏👏👏👏👏
Thank you.
"Xin Nian Kuai Le is the more accurate translation for Happy New Year." < you are right.
You got everything correct except for the Cantonese one. It’s “gong hei fatt choy”, the “o” like the “o” in “tong sampah”, and it’s “hei” not “hee”.
There is actually China Town Restaurant in Karachi which was owned by Chinese people. It was quite authentic. There is Chinese community in Pakistan. It's Sichuan^^ Si pronunciation is exactly like Si as in number 4 in Chinese and then Chuan..
