I can see Steve was conscious of not using the left hand while eating and thanks for respecting the host's local culture. He was struggling to tear the naan using just the right hand. I think it's ok to use both hands to tear the naan or roti but only use one hand to eat. I would use a fork or spoon in left hand to push up the curry or meat to the naan.
Using both hands are okay but we muslims use right hand only when putting the food/morsel/bite in the mouth, and as we use left hand in toilet when washing so we prefer to use right hand to take a bite into the mouth.
