As someone who’s designed garments for years and can easily source 90% of the basic fabrics Balenciaga uses and even knows where they manufacture most of their goods I can tell you that Balenciaga is highway robbery and behind closed doors they are laughing at the stupidity of everyone who pays for their items. There isn’t anything special or different about their items aside from very small things that never get close to the premiums they charge. The same goes for Amiri and basically all others. The average pair of amiri jeans costs about $60-70 to manufacture and this is give or take depending on the volume they are producing of a certain piece. Most of the people who consume amiri don’t even know who Mike Amiri is. They don’t know anything about the brand or whether or not it holds even the slightest amount of significance other than being expensive. There is no magical material that balenciaga uses aside from some of their super high end pieces you can’t obtain without truly being wealthy. Hoodies, sweat pants, denim, etc. is all basic material anyone can call around and source. My grandma could source a Balenciaga collection and have a manufacturer make the exact same garments. A Balenciaga hoodie is produced for $30 absolute max, possibly lower due to status and volume of the brand. Imagine paying $1,000+ for a $30 garment
Idk what kinda content you were watching back them but that’s such a disservice to this video. UA-camrs in 05-10 put a quarter even if, of effort into their videos.
@@XxGamer42069xX nah bro, the ppl I was watching were putting in this level effort. Almost like what a channel like RDC does now. Skits, role playing even tho you’re clearly at your friends apartment they still committed to the scene and script. I’d describe it as high effort, low budget, great writing.
@Southforthewinter I remember. Yeah, they don't make them like this anymore. Sadly. 😢 Everything comes off too polished now. The quirk is what made things interesting.
This is an incredible Big Short parody but very insightful on Balenciaga and the fashion industry in general. It's nice to understand clothing properly and investing in designers who mean well unlike Balenciaga and LV. Great video!
Oh man , it was GREAT , i loved it , kinda sad where fashion is going nowadays . When i was a teen i always searched for new designs and quality and interesting textures etc... But now everythings feels stale and fake . I only like some of more niche brands and little creators that does make cool clothes but nowadays i just focus on quality and comfort . Thanks again for putting feelings i had into this cool video!!
You can see the same thing in the luxury car and watch markets. Watch prices peaked at like 200-500% above retail and now they are all crashing on the grey market. It was definitely a bubble in all luxury goods.
The irony of watches no longer being timeless lol. Theres a wonderful silver lining to this though. There’s some really niche horologists that are coming up. It’s an art form that is turning back around. ☺️☺️
I love you for your knowledge of Demna, post-Soviet Georgia (I am from a post Soviet country too) but also for making this video so awesome. Definitely deserves a follow.
What if it was Demna’s whole plan for Balenciaga to go bust and all the buyers of Balenciaga are already buying homeless clothing to prepare for when they are actually homeless
if balenciaga goes bust all the customers would end up keeping everything because the company already has their money from credit card companies etc, all those companies have to collect the debt themselves or sell it to a collections agency and then after they pay to buy debt on a 1000 dollar hoodie its not worth their time.
Please buy into independent brands and support new designers and artists. There are so many independent designers that love the craft and put so much heart into their work it’s so hard to get into the business and even harder to maintain so please support independent designers✨
The Big Short is what inspired me to study finance, which is what is now enabling me to spend copious amounts of money on this bullshit lol love it literally have a new piece landing today and I was planning on cutting back next year too 😭
Bro said “planning on cutting back”. This shit jus an addiction based off pride and greed. Lowkey genius. Who needs herion to fill the void when u have Balenciaga 😀
@@2stout2shako2d6crazy thing is 95% of people that walk past you or interact with you either won’t care that the product is balenciaga/high fashion or simply don’t care. Crazy to spend so much money on brands that are so anti consumer
4:35 saying style is a liability is dead on, just look at people on grailed trying to resell demna pieces (vetements is the creative director of balenciaga's personal brainchild) so much of people within this community own pieces for an certain period of time either short or long and then end up selling them. It's all basically a contained petri dish of gen z consumerism
This is why I always go to resale or TRR or trusted sources looking for deals. These brands are insane. My brother works for Vuitton and I don’t even have these discussions with him because he’ll always defend this bullshit. And I worked for Chanel and TRR myself, before I got into IT. Fleecing everywhere.
Coy omg congratulations on your biggest video yet!🎉🥳🍾 I have been watching your work for a while. finally your starting to get the recognition you deserve!!!
lol good concept and execution. I've spent $20k+ on balenci and it's truly run it's course. I used to be able to flip my items for a profit when I was done wearing them but now I'm lucky to get 50% of what I paid. So I'm selling all my items before the market gets worse and just gonna wear the same outfit everyday. Fuck financially handicapping myself just to benefit kering shareholders
Here I am, in a $5000 Ralph Lauren Purple Label suit that I bought on Ebay for $100, across the street in Sunnyvale where rent is $4000 a month, laughing on the inside

I can confirm production cost for jeans is not 60$ … Same for tees, hoodies etc… it’s more expensive !
As someone who worked 10 years in luxury retails, and now starting my own brand.. I can confirm everything you said is correct 😂
Ur grandma needs to make graffer hoodies for the low then 😂
Mind dropping the manufactures? I’m looking to start my own label.

Just stumbled upon it
this is literally quality content. You’ve managed to get a person with the attention span of a goldfish to finish a 26 minute UA-cam video. Wow.
This video is what youtube was made to be, what it was, and if u look hard enough what it still is.
Phenomenal creation.
TBH not what I expected walking into this video, but a very good time and I enjoyed it a lot. Keep up the good work!
Same, I love this
