10:36 "Our online booking system is broken, so we're going to bill you additional fees"
Had to deal with something similar this year, with broken logic the flight booked with a baggage had the baggage booked one way only, so of course the fee for the way back was more expensive than the one paid months ahead of time. But then the platform wasn't allowing booking it during the weekend either and come Monday the price was even higher.
Airlines get charged by the airport for various things, which is usually run separately.
the *airport* charged additional fees. the *airline* has to pay them somehow. if it costs the airline $200 to book you in the airport of course theyre going to encourage you to book directly with their service and not the airports services. theyre also going to charge you the difference.
it wasn’t broken, they just left it last minute
Someone has to pay the IT guys
I love how we've seen both sides of airport customer service in this series. Previously they got the "oh yeah for sure, I can totally get you cheaper tickets and cut you a sick deal," and then this episode it was "I can sell you the ticket but it will be 200$ extra for 'airport fees'."
And the third side: "Why are you getting a flight when you can take a bus for a tenth of the price???"
more like a 20th of the price
@staryoshi06 @loedje You're both close, the bus was 16.25 times cheaper. So really the average of your answers was pretty much correct.
@@CriticalMonkey623 Whoops I meant to say for less than a tenth, lol.

The check in lady was so concerned that Ben and Adam payed 1300 for the flight
I know! I wasn't sure if it was general concern & empathy or if she was thinking in the back of her mind "Are these two in serious potentially life-threatening trouble and should I do something more?" :)
Yeah, you can usually get that flight for $40 one way, ~$90-120 last minute. So $1300 is an insane price to pay!
@@MrLegendra it wasn't $1,300; it was that price for both of them, so $650 each, which is still ridiculous af

Fun fact: The reason that all flights out of Adelaide were most likely $1000 each were because this was filmed right at the very end of the Adelaide Fringe festival season, when tons of people are leaving Adelaide to head back home to other states, and not many people would be coming back in, hence the $200 flights the other team almost got.
This is not true
@@damiancooper3063 Which part? They said that this was filmed about 1 week before the F1 Race, which was right as the Fringe Festival was finishing.
Flipping a bottle the wrong way is honestly a 1/1000 kind of challenge idk why you thought you’d get it in 10
depends on bottle, surface and the weight of the bottle
they did also pick the worst possible surfaces and removed seemingly all of the liquid, which everyone knows you're not meant to do
My friend did it the first time he ever flipped a bottle
It’s really easy when it’s about 2/3 full they got rid of the liquid which just doesn’t work
apparently it worked in testing
Ben's fashion sense can best be described as "random chuck-e-cheese animatronics character"
Idk if that’s the best way, “kookaburra” is much more succinct
I love the fact that there's a point in this episode where if you add together each team's money plus the amount they've laid down, they're only a dollar apart. Just shows how tight a game it is
Is the dollar difference the dollar Ben and Adam put in Adelaide?
@@ddawesome449 It can be, but it doesn't have to be
and how well-designed the game itself is!

Brits of a certain age will know “hooroo” is “goodbye” in Australia bc of the Foster’s lager adverts 😂😂😂
Literally the reason I figured it out! 😂😂
Realised that porky meant lie in Aussie slang because porky pie means lie in cockney slang
Thanks to this episode, I now know that the Aunty Donna group did not invent the word “hooroo” in one of their sketches, they were just being Australian.
What age? I'm a Brit in my 30's and I don't think I've ever seen that Foster's ad
As a Australian i came across Fosters for the first time and also heard more people saying Hooroo than I have heard growing up here my whole life...
This season has a lot of devastating cliffhangers
They had to make the Nebula advert three minutes long as well to give us hope
@Bobbo_1 I literally thought to myself are they leaving me one cliffhanger again then thought no there's too much time left 😅
I never have thought I would be this obsessed with Jet Lag, but this has to be one of my favourite shows. My hyperfixation to this knows no bounds.
13:20 "maybe there's a sister ship- oh wait not sister, maybe there's a uhh.. cousi- no, that's not allowed" 😭😭😭
"Everyone who lives in Australia is issued one of these, I imagine" the thing is, Ben is actually right about the hats... most people who grew up in Australia remember NO HAT NO PLAY, and a lot of schools did require them to be this style
Makes sense when 1/3 of Australians get skin cancer
My guess on how the last episode's cliffhangers would end were spot on. This episode's cliffhangers are VASTLY more terrifying.
I think B&A will succeed. As pointed out, they have practice building ramshackle vehicles that just barely hold together. But I'm not sure of that. As for S&T, I have absolutely no clue. I could easily see that going either way. Though notably, if they fail it, they have absolutely no reason not to go for the 50% steal. If they do that, Ben and Adam had better not make the same mistake again and delay putting money down.
@@yaitz3313I'm the opposite. The flag quiz is extremely easy the cart race is a more of a wild card
@@AdamSmith-gs2dv I think you're underestimating the odds of a slip-up. I'm someone who's good with flags, and there are a ton of extremely similar ones that are difficult to remember the difference between. I still think they have a really good shot, I'm just not sure of the outcome.
@@yaitz3313 I think you're underestimating the advantage of having the flags in alphabetical order. There are similar flags but those are rarely beginning with the same first letter.
Yeah, you're gonna get a few flags instantly, and then you can kind of fill the blanks with alphabet. It'll come down to not forgetting a name than similar flag designs.
The kart has good odds if it goes straight. And if those wheels are in line (if they angle apart then it'll slow down a lot faster)

I've just realised how apropos it is to have gambling be such a big part of the Australia season because the gambling lobby owns the entire freaking country.
its so wild to go to crown casino and see all the extravagance paired with old people dead eyed mashing their gaming buttons. apparently in the eastern states they have those machines in pubs?

I'm an Adelaidian and the entire time they were looking for a bird to feed last episode I was like just throw anything at an ibis you fools
Our ibis aren't like their East Coast cousins though, They're sort of an enigma. Who knows when or where they exist. I'm not surprised they didn't encounter one.
@@roseduste80 Weird, I went into the zoo at night once and a couple times I've walked past the various squares and there's been like 20 of the little bastards running around
@@TaliesinMyrddin They definitely make more appearances than they used to. Maybe you have strong ibis magic, so they congregate where you'll pass by?
36:45 So let's see how likely it is to actually get this done.
There's a 1 in 256 chance of guessing right.
Assuming that if you guess wrongly, you can instantly restart without having to do the remaining of the 8 coin flips:
Half of the time you only flip once
A quarter of the time you flip twice
An eighth of the time you flip thrice, and so on.
On average, you flip [Sum from 1 to 8 (n/2^n)] or 1.961 times per "attempt"
If you can flip a coin 502 times within 30 minutes (flip a coin once every ~3.586 seconds), it's a 50/50 chance to beat the challenge.
You can certainly flip coins quickly if both players are flipping at the same time. But since it's only a 2x multiplier, we need each player can only flip a coin once every 7s, to on average earn very little and also waste a bit of time
you mean 1/n^2?
@jonathanodude6660 There's a 1/2^n chance that you can correctly call the flip right n times in a row.
For instance, the chance of calling 3 flips right in a row is 2×2×2 or 2^n.
So one attempt would have a 1 in 2^1 chance of ending after 1 flip, 1 in 2^2 chance of ending after 2 flips, 1 in 2^3 chance of ending after 3 flips, up until but excluding 8 flips where it's guaranteed to end one way or another
Yeah I tried this out. I can average a flip every two or so seconds, so I thought it would be easy.
Attempt 1: Eleven and a half minutes
Attempt 2: Just shy of eighteen minutes
Attempt 3: 14 seconds. Nine flips.
