  • Hey house lovers and explorers!
This classic Art Deco home is now gone and has been lost forever and I have to thank Joanie who is local the Findon area where is once stood as she notified me when the demolition fences went up around it. I quickly went there and filmed it right on dusk just n case they started picking it apart the following day which they did! I did get footage the following day also which you will see.
The home was built about 1952/53 and Dr K E Lovell first appeared at the address in 1954 so it seems the place was used initially a Doctors surgery initially and then later in it`s life during it`s final years as you will see.
One of the better distinct examples of Art Deco around Adelaide and although the use of it being a clinic sanitized some areas of the inside there is some amazing features and rooms that bring yo back to the 50`s immediately :-)
The second home I added was also built early 50`s with the same streamed lined "Waterfall" Art deco architecture that came back strong post WW2. It had been altered inside and remodeled here and there but still very much a retro experience also!
Both now gone.......Hope you all enjoy the video, cheers for watching :-)

How criminal to demolish this beautiful art deco home. My heart skipped a beat seeing that bathroom... the tiles were so beautiful. I loved the kitchen cupboards and those original floor boards!
Was a surprise to get to the top of the stairs to find a balcony instead of a 2nd floor. I truly loved the windows in the house.... so amazing.
Thank you so much for sharing finding this gem. The front of this home is just spectacular and a wonderful example of art deco.

Got to admire the architect for adding a faux 2nd floor to give the building verticality as well as a break room / balcony for family! Interesting that the bathroom included a floor level shower and spectacular color combination.

The most fascinating explores of two unique 1950s Art Deco style Adelaide homes. 🏠The first home had so much character both externally and internally, with the original kitchen cabinets and pink bathroom with the black tiles. I really enjoyed the explores thanks Paul. 🏡

We need to try to save Art Deco architecture. And try to repurpose it as gift shops, bookstores, and coffee shops. Or buy them and restore them to their previous glory. Thanks for letting me share.

What a deceptively clever design of the first house, tricking us into thinking it was double storey. I loved the 1950s wall sconces either side of the front door. Those black tiles in the bathroom still look brand new shiny. I haven't seen any tiles these days that match the quality of back then. Congrats on another amazing episode 👍

Great memories. Thanks for posting. I used to visit this surgery for many years. My doctor orginally had a small practice in the shopping centre adjacent until moving here in the early 90's (93?). It was a general gp practice. The front room was the waiting area with a reception area on the other side of the room. Main dr room was the 2nd on the left from main entrance. Other rooms were also consult rooms. Last time I was here was around 2012, Dr also had another practice on south rd Ridleyton which I usually went to in later years until I moved out of the area. I'm not sure the dr is practicing still as I tried to book appt years ago but was told he was no longer a gp. This is a shame as he was a great gp who was a few decades too young to retire. It was his practice. I'm not sure but I think he may have owned the property.

What a pity Adelaide is losing so much older architecture. Seems there's not much protection for history (sad as Australia's history is rather young compared to others) and what usually replaces the good stuff is modern crap built with crap. Hope you guys manage to generate some concern and motivate your fellow citizens to enact some protections for this fantastic history!

I just want to say I love how you go from room to room in order. It's really easy to understand where you are in the house, you don't jump from room to room getting the viewer wondering where you are in the house. I really didn't care for the art decor homes but they were nice. I also think the those rooms in the first house were exam rooms too.

Loved the first house. For most of the best years of my childhood (age 5-12), I lived next door to a very similar home. And I was in love with it! It did have a huge sweeping enclosed porch that ran all along the side (it was on a corner lot) with curved corners and all windows like those in the living room. That porch area had a tiled floor and an entrance to the house that was set across the corner where the porch met the house with 3 steps leading to that door. The steps were shallow but huge semicircles with the center being the that corner. It was beautiful inside and very like that one. It didn’t seem out of date at all at the time since this was early to mid 60’s. It’s still standing, but is unrecognizable now. It’s been “modernized” into oblivion a few times since then, even removing the windows and incorporating that indoor porch space into the house and squaring up the corners. Now it’s just an ugly, squat block of a building. 😭
Thanks for showing these to us, Paul.

What cool old homes!! That first one was beautiful, except for maybe the location, too much traffic to be nice to live there. I am a big fan of the art deco/Frank Lloyd Wright look. So sad they knock them down. The 2nd house definitely had a remodel in the late 1970's, The first place I rented when I got out of the Army was built in the late 70's and had that exact same linoleum flooring in the kitchen, and those triangle paint jobs in the bedroom are a classic late 70's vintage. As always great job and thank you!!

Bless you for capturing all these beautiful homes and to be recorded. Utter shame they are being demolished, and no gone, my heart is heavy.

Both homes were wonderful! In the first home, the bathroom was gorgeous and I loved the staircase and balcony! I’ m glad you got to it before the machines made it disappear! As always, it’s such a shame! Thank you!

LOVE that YOU do research about the most interesting part of this explore.... I’m trying to like this place seeing as I’m a fan of Art Deco but quite hard with it being turned into a business , As you stated I sure would have liked to see it in its original state as a home

The cabinets with sinks were probably waiting areas at a doctors office.

Just seen the opening couple of minutes. Great to see you again, mate.
    Loving the intro mix.
This house is a dream but I can guess its up for demolition. Someone is going to regret ripping the heart out of Adelade, later on down the line. What a magnificent piece of architecture.
I think those circular decorations were windows originally, before that mostrosity was erected behind it
