    Em: I’m the same way with fossils. I immediately want to wack it open to expose it or to trim excess rock off. But...I have learned thru the “school of hard knocks” that too many valuable fossils are destroyed that way. It is best to keep cool and pack it out (even if it is too heavy) and, in a more controlled and comfortable setting, to assess the piece and carefully prep it. Loved the video and would be most interested in the nature of your class work.

    Hi Emma! I really enjoyed your video (as always!). Love the gastropod and nice complete ammonite - they're great. As for the attempts to remove the matrix in the field, you just have to be the nicest ammonite murderer I know :o) The voice-over was a sensible decision, given the windy day. Take care and good luck with your exam!

    Excellent video, thanks. I too collect a vast amounts of fossils and stones from Norfolk on east coast of England. I found a smart sea urchin in Poole and have an ammonite embossed into a septarian nodule, very rare apparently, also found several echinoids. Love collecting stones and fossils and remarking on what some of the things I find actually once were. I too plan to make a video and currently sorting my stone collection into types; including what I call 'ringers or clingers' - they are typically elongated and make certain frequency/resonance when they are chimed. I got about 20 of these I have sorted and plan to suspend the stones into like a kind of harp. Good luck in your studies :)

    That barb could be possibly a spine of shark/ray, but could maybe be a stem of a sea lily. Im not great at identification though. Great find!

    It would be nice to here about your studies related to geology, minerals, fossils. Not a lot of detail but quick explanations about what your week in the classroom was like. Like this week we study plate tectonics and I thought this part was really cool etc. Those are not finger nails of a serious fossil collector! Hahahaha

    I like exploring the beach and seeing what can be found. Your expedition was very productive, finding a variety of fossils, minerals and some current day creatures. The gastropod fossil was really cool. The wind whipping in from the sea had to be producing some dreadful windchills! Seeing your hands without gloves, made me cold. I think the narration after recording the video is good, unless you want to invest in a microphone with a cover. Take care and best of luck with your studies.

    Obviously the best fossil hunting in France is not on the warm sandy beaches in the South 😆. Even with all the “destructions” you came home with some very nice examples 😃👍. And yes, we do enjoy your quirky color changing nails 😉.

    Thanks again for a wonderful adventure!
    EM,
    You’ve sold me on the idea of coming from the U.S. to collect fossils! Although it will be in a year or so,...by way of preparing, you’ve mentioned permitting for fossil collection.
    Could you please share the relevant authorities to contact for simple beach collecting on your beautiful Yorkshire coast.
    No digging, but the occasional smacking of ammonite nodules would be a goal. Thank you for any help. r.

    You are too cute not to watch, cool changing color nails. Come down to Guatemala, it's 66 F. or 19 C right now, plenty of chupacabra fossils and such. Good luck on your exams!

    wait wait wait where is this beach???? i live in france and i love rockhounding, this place is filled with marcasites (a cousin of pyrite, which is why you found so much of it there)

  • @jefftrag1956
    @jefftrag1956 3 роки тому

    You need to coat the pyrite with that stuff you use (can't think of the name) and that will enhance the color and keep it from oxidizing.

    I decided to lump several questions together on the one clip...
    I collect mostly Echinoids in Southern United States, but would love to learn more about those of Europe. If you want to recommend any books or resources, or ever want to talk about fossil exchanges for the same purposes...
