What a lovely episode! I am finally going to China in June, after missing it for four years! Btw. the friendship between the grandpa and the girl is so sweet, in the West something like this is rare, and in China I have seen friendships like that a lot. How sweet and lovely!
You must try to visit Hangzhou after the Asian Game and then take a bus up to the famous tea plantation. It will be a great trip for you and do budget a whole day trip.
I just love Hangzhou and her gentle people. Visited Westlake twice. You are so blessed to have Grandpa Dai in your life now....what a sage gentleman!!!
We Malaysian Chinese also drink longing tea but we are fujian ancestry therefore we drink more of fujian anxi tea and many also drink puer tea from Yunnan. So good to see you moving from one village to another village. What an adventure and experience.
Yafala is quite a sweetheart, and Grandpa Dai is lucky (a two way street) to have such an engaging young woman come to visit and keep him company regularly.
What a beautiful experience! The tea picking season must be very exciting! And then consuming this extraordinary drink in such a beautiful place in the company of nice and friendly people makes the atmosphere even more exciting. It almost feels like a feast! Thank you very much
Katherine you have good discerning taste to appreciate fine Chinese tea. By the way, the British East India Company wanted Chinese tea and silk but was disappointed that China did not want to trade. The Brits then introduced opium from India that unethically flooded China with addicts. The opium wars started when the Qing dynasty prohibited its importation. China lost the war, ceded territories with a series of unequal treaties leading to “Century of Humiliation”. We Chinese learned from our bitter history.
What a lovely vlog and the city, the tea plantations looked so beautiful and relaxing! These kinds of lovely relationships that you build up while travelling, exploring are something that I really like. Had you not said it, we would have never understood that you and grandpa do not know each other. But what a lovely interaction you had and he was so happy to show you guys around! Warm regards from India.
Thanks for the intro to the Longjing village! I am a tea lover, I think I will drop by if I go Hangzhou :) Very talented colleague u have there btw! ^_^
Some green tea I like. Some I don't like. Never had Chinese green tea before but have been drinking Japanese green tea. Although I must say Japanese green tea also had a taste that you may not like at all. I'll make it a point to look for some green tea from China.
Hi katherine, thanks once again for another very interesting video…I am sure many overseas Chinese really appreciate you going beyond the call of duty of a vlogger and reaching out and digging into the very core of one of the things that has made us so culturally interesting . Grandpa is such a knowledgeable person…I can sit and drink tea with this senior citizen and talk forever ….take care and keep having fun. Watching you from Europe….
I LOVE ❤ Longjing tea. I brought a few bags in one of that area costing $300 US each bag but totally worth every cent drinking it. It taste and smell very refreshing
Grandpa Dai looks so healthy! It should be due to the lifestyle. He grows quite a lot of produces which will give him lots of fresh food in all seasons!
Tickle me pink, giggling watching this from time to time. Grandpa Dai has a good sense of humor as well, love it! Thank you for sharing this video. Looking forward for your new update. Your huge followers here from, Seattle Washington.. Again Thank you Katherine! ❤
“上有天堂,下有苏杭”. Such a fun video to bring back good memory when I visited Hangzhou right before college graduation.😊 I’m not a tea drinker but I have to say Longjing 龙井 does tastes nice!
Beautiful video. It takes me back to my visit to Longjing in 1985. I remember seeing the locals roasting the tea leaves just as in your video. They even gave me a young tea plant to take to my boss in Hong Kong.
Of all tea varieties, LongJing is my personal favorite, and the ones picked and prepared before QinMing is the best among them all. Are you trekking along "9 streams and 18 ravines" on your way back to the city?
younger tea leaves are expenisve because when you harvest them, they ae quite few because the rest of the leaves on the plant are already mature. Young tea leaves have some more compounds that is good for you than what you would find in a mature tea leaf. The taste is also milder.. In England or really in Western packaging, they are called white tea.
You reminded of my tucked away dehydrated green tea and finally brewed a measure, it's origin not labeled. I actually appreciated the flavours and the aromas even after deluging it through with warm water, several times. It retained most of its properties and it wasn't placebo effect. I am more energetic. You should give it another chance😜 Now I am hooked, and I will be looking to getting another batch on other visits. Thanks for your inspiration😋Got me out of the sceptical zone haha
I was wondering what was going on in this village, until you finally came clean about green tea (11:20)! How did you make it through this? Those tea pickers are delightful. Want to hear the German guy's English again.
Yes, the price of green tea from this area is very pricy! While you are in the area, suggest a visit to the Huang Mountain. A sight to behold and you would remember for years.
Longjing tea is probably the most expensive green tea in China. This kind of tea trees are widely planted in Xinchang, Zhejiang, and the "Longjing tea" there is much less expensive. However, the best flavor still comes from Longjing Village near Hangzhou. It is not surprising that real tea connoisseurs would splurge a thousand dollars on a SINGLE pound of authentic Longjing tea.
hehe, i've worked with the other area Meijiawu and the 狮峰 brand for over 20 years, and TBH, i've been a fan of Pu'er and Liu'an since i was a kid. I'll drink Longjing but it's not my first choice of tea. If you get a chance, try Anji white tea (安吉白茶) from further north in Huzhou. it has a more subtle sweetness that's more soothing.
My grandma once got a package of Longjing tea from a relative, and I absolutely love it! So, thank you for letting me see the place where that tea originated! Love your videos although I have to close my eyes at some scenes ― I have chicken phobia and you love them 😅
Green tea has antioxidant properties which is good for health, but the taste for some may take some time to get used to. I drink it occasionally because it's health benefits. A lot of harvests out there these days used pesticides which isn't good, esp on fruits. Even animals are fed with some kinda steroids to help them grow faster. So there's only so much a human can do to avoid harmful effects.
It's pretty much like the red wine and cheese in Western culture. Top notch products cannot be manufactured because the quality is strictly subject to geography, and only real connoisseurs are willing to pay hefty prices for subtle differences in flavor and aroma.
The earliest batch of tea produced in Longjing Village was frighteningly expensive and in small quantities, and few Chinese people could buy them. Starting from the second batch, prices will become cheaper and cheaper
Did you know that the word tea was derived from the Spanish (original traders of tea from Fujian province) te. In which te is the Fujian pronunciation for the more commonly used pronunciation “cha”.

I love green tea so this was quite entertaining
thanks for supporting the channel ❤️
