Thanks for joining, everyone! Which one of the places in this video did you like best? There is no right answer of course! They all have their pros and cons. I think a trip to anywhere isn't complete without wandering in some random villages though 🤪 Coming up soon: more about my own life in rural China! Follow on instagram for more updates @ kats_journey_east
There’s Huangling , Weizhou, Chaji…and many many more beautiful small places in the mountains or near rivers..and they all have very old houses temples and other buildings.
Welcome to my hometown! Hope you enjoy the Hui style buildings there. (BTW I was born in Hong village but now are living in Fairfax VA for many years😊 )
Hi Kathrine, I was born in China in 1935. Went back quit a few time visiting my families in Foshan. Please keep doing what you are doing in traveling into the country side. I never had a chance to see what the original China looks like before 1945. Your travels and videos are fabulous. That old China is slowlu going away,. Thanks much. Howe Fong from Los Angeles, California.
I live in Qingdao, a coastal city in northern China, and I didn’t expect Katherine was able to penetrate so deeply into the life of rural areas in southern China and use videos to discover and explore the beauty of rural areas. I appreciate your actions and hope that one day I can go deep into rural life and find the beauty of quality rural like you.
Both are worth it! I love these types of videos where you wander around, it gives me major nostalgia for my trip to yunnan 10 years ago - we also went to major touristy places during a national holiday and to some random villages! I really hope I can go back to china one day,.. thanks for helping me keep my basic mandarin alive in the meantime 😀
LOL..."You dye your eyes blue?" With your retort that blue eyes aren't that uncommon, even dogs have them, "So you have a pair of dog eyes?" Love the beauty of these villages that you captured to share with us. They are priceless for those that live thousands of miles away! Total respect for your intellectual curiosity that constantly drives you to explore. Keep up the great work!
Thank you Katherine for another interesting video about rural China that is not often visited by tourists and therefore not often posted and thereby I as an arm-chair tourist do not get to see. The rural place is beautiful and serene. Wow, it is lovely. Living in this environment will add another 10 years to one's life. Thank you Katherine for posting all the beautiful and interesting places in China.
Omg! It's like a documentary! A fascinating capsule of beautiful rural life, estate , environment and all the rest! Bravo Kath! Not a dull moment! Not a dull moment indeed!!
A great video, Katherine. You have refined your "photographic eye" for beautiful details, backgrounds, bokeh. So glad to see so many tourists; China is certainly coming back to life after the pandemic!
I have so much respect for structures that return to the earth or get taken over by plants. When I look around our beautiful Shenandoah Valley I think of the tons of ag plastic and vinyl. What will it be like in the future when these things don’t disintegrate? Kudos to ancient villages. Thanks for taking us along. The round doors stole my heart! 😍
I am happy that the old villages are preserved even though they have to be turned into tourist towns and old homes renovated into pricey boutique hotels ! Not to see them demolished is the key! But present day inhabitants want newer homes, and that has to be accepted. Sure the architecture is not as charming, but the country side is still preserved. Nice to see tea farms and bamboo roots harvested, creeks, farm animals abound. That’s important! Such a beautiful countryside for you to visit and introduced to us! Thank you!👍❤️👍🌿

Wow what scenery, what views. Only you Katherine can show all these with your pencence for wanderlust to out of way places, on paths that are least travelled. No one can march your abilities to pick out unknown and known places to give us couch potatoes a sense of being there with you. Thank you❤❤❤👍👍👍👋👋👋
5:00 Circular doorways has always been very counterintuitive to me; I mean arches for support I get it but circular doorways? I always wanted to look this up so I found out the following. "In China's splendid culture that spans thousands of years, circles symbolize inclusiveness, harmony, and wisdom; squares represent sincerity, perseverance, and the unity of law and reason. The shape of a circular outer door and inner square/rectangular door provides a constant reminder that to achieve lasting success, one needs wisdom, sincerity, and the ability to understand and reason with others."
Another beautiful scenic interesting video!👍 That train station crowd was intensely claustrophobic huh? You’re a trooper! I enjoyed both places but I agree with you that the night scenes were superb! The pig giving birth was interesting and your blue “dog eyes” made me laugh! 😂
Thank-you Katherine for sharing yet another great video clip. Nice scenery and good presentation. Looking forward to your next clip. Best wishes n do take care. Cheers! 🙏🍻
Such beautiful places! I adore the Anhui Architectures and Traditions. I visited this village 15 years ago and really blown away by it's beauty and history. Nice to see it again through your video, thank you Katherine.
I visited Hong village in 2006. The layout of village follows that of a cow's organs, for example, the pond is cow's stomach, and the small creek is like cow's blood veins.
Great video content Katherine....this is the very reason why I like watching your video as it is so authentic and calming....I would never have appreciate how nice rural life is with its environment if not for your video. Looking forward to your next video.
I really like the scenery in this episode; beautiful nature views, with mountain, hills, fog, village, rural houses/architecture, small creatures, greens.. every shot can be a good painting.
Very well edited video. So many nice cuts, highlighting the attractive points. Contrasting the quiet countryside with the over-touristed spot swarming with people. Great video.
There are so many beautiful places in China and these ones are truly fantastic. Nowadays living in places like these is like breathing fresh air!!Too nice! Thank you very much Katherine for this great video. Rural China is amazing ❤
This video was very interesting and enjoyable katherine. You never fail to bring us a view on China we would never normally get. How things used to be even though China is also very modern. I, m glad to see they have preserved some of their old villages. From bicycles to Bentleys in one generation. Enjoy..x
Ohhhh finally!! My hometown is featured in Katherine's video🎉. I have missed the random barking dog, bamboo forest and tea hills so much. Also the swamp of water birds, random colorful wild flowers, and alll over yellow flowers for canola oil. I would recommend XiKou 溪口 in Anhui if you want to visit anhui again. Promise no tourist, nice people, and new things to see.
Great video. I’ve been in Anhui 20 years ago. Shexian county and Tunxi county are also great places to visit. I especially love my mother in law’s family’s village, it’s in the middle of the mountains and tea fields. The architecture and the landscape are simply amazing. Thank you for sharing your journey with us.
❤Amazing! I was there too in the same time period when I visiting Hongcun and Xidi village. I saw a woman came across with camera but I didn’t realize was you😂, it is such a shame for me that I didn’t say hello. I really love and appreciated to watch this video.
I definitely prefer the ordinary working villages and towns in China to the big cities and tourist villages. I was in China over the holiday season in 2015 and it was crazy. I would encourage people, who want to visit China to see tourist places, to avoid all holiday seasons. Fortunately for me I was there for 6 weeks so that I could see both in season and out of season.
Haunting, magical, whimsical at times. Your videos bring mintense emotion in the most simplistic and carefree way it’s truly stunning! Love the tour and enjoyed every moment of it.
hey Kathrine, great video, we where there just 3 months ago as a side tour to Huangshan it is quite an idyllic village with lots of cute shops and alleyways. We love it there. Next time, you should do a Huangshan hike, highly recommended.
Awsome. You said that next vlog will be you at home. Kool. Cause I was thinking about telling you that it would be nice to see you at home and if you have a garden and chickens ducks, maybe a dog. Till next time. God bless you always.
i always prefer the authentic places over the aesthetically nicer ones. interactions with locals going about their life, like you did, are often the most memorable things of any trip
Another wonderful episode, with your beautiful "dog eyes." With this one, and in particular the "f... that" and the rock and roll that followed, you've broken out of your shell and have begun to show your true inner character. You must be popular in town and with the guys. Did you know that China is the world's largest pig producer?
Love your vids.... I notice a lot of the locals are very comfortable talking with you.... So how quickly (do you feel) that it goes from being "A foreigner that can speak fluent mandarin!" to "Hey homie, want to stay for dinner and some maotai?" 😂😂😂
Enjoyed it so muucch! like I go around these places vicariously, another amazing spot recommend you Kat, 桐庐!!!You are gonna love it, just wandering around 富春江, and walk long the 马岭古道
Katherine, you have become a very good storyteller. You know the people who watch your videos. You can relate to people, architecture and history of China to make your story interesting. I'm never bored watching your videos. Have you lost your 2 bodyguards from Xinjiang.
I was just traveling with them during CNY break, we had an 8 day trip in fujian, it just took me forever to finish editing so it feels like it lasted a very long time 😂
Toursty villages has more ancient buildings which is like a time capsule, however, remote villages have more friendly people, tough choice....Thank you for another well done episode - from Canada.
Nice! Its good China is starting to value its architectural heritage, and its environmentally much better to reuse existing buildings as you retain the embodied energy in them.

GOOD JOB! Compared to that, I prefer the village in the suburbs where there are fewer people. It's just as good and much quieter and more peaceful.
Anhui is amazing, love it!! Been there many times ❤❤❤
There’s Huangling , Weizhou, Chaji…and many many more beautiful small places in the mountains or near rivers..and they all have very old houses temples and other buildings.
这里是典型中国“徽派“民居,具有中国特色
Welcome to my hometown! Hope you enjoy the Hui style buildings there. (BTW I was born in Hong village but now are living in Fairfax VA for many years😊 )
When this little guy asked about your blue eye color and said you have dog eyes! It really cracks me up! 🤣😂🤣😂

How heavenly it is to visit the village in the rural area of China.

11:30 "oh so you have a pair of dog eyes ?" 🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣
That can be only coming out of a child's mouth! But then you are the one giving reference to the color of the eyes of the pets!!!
啊哈哈哈😄😄😄
And you? A prime example of having a singular perspective.

I am laughing the shit out of me
The small town is really beautiful, so calm and relaxing. I love it. Enjoy yourself Katherine.
Great job adding another beautiful place to your wonderful travels and our enjoyable viewings! :D

Thank you 😊😊😊

I visited Hong village in 2006. The layout of village follows that of a cow's organs, for example, the pond is cow's stomach, and the small creek is like cow's blood veins.
Yes, the design helps mitigating floods with ponds built at lower elevations.
Great video content Katherine....this is the very reason why I like watching your video as it is so authentic and calming....I would never have appreciate how nice rural life is with its environment if not for your video. Looking forward to your next video.
Highly interesting and eye pleasing video of mountain village in China. Good job Katherine!
Really admire your enthusiasm and pleasant attitudes toward every new encounter!
I really like the scenery in this episode; beautiful nature views, with mountain, hills, fog, village, rural houses/architecture, small creatures, greens.. every shot can be a good painting.
Can’t wait to watch this! Always looking for stunning rural recommendations in the area! (Also loving the music) ❤
Gorgeous, gorgeous...gorgeous! Anhui is well worth the visit. Thank you for sharing this.👍👍
really enjoy your narratives of these lovely rural places, like "bring back the little faces". Loving you from Vancouver

Love your choice of music....!!!!
When you come across chickens, ducks and peculiar things, please make the video clips 5 seconds longer :)
Amazing places in China!
I thoroughly enjoyed both the touristy village and the laid back type working village. Thanks Katherine.
This video was very interesting and enjoyable katherine. You never fail to bring us a view on China we would never normally get. How things used to be even though China is also very modern. I, m glad to see they have preserved some of their old villages. From bicycles to Bentleys in one generation. Enjoy..x
Lovely.
I really like how you go for the road not taken.
There is so much understated beauty and glory in the ordinary.

11:42. Kids say the darnest things 😂
The little boy has no malice, he just casually said it because Catherine said that even small dogs have blue eyes.
@@美美的-d2h totally.

OMG MY FAVORITE PROVINCE
Thank you for showing the beautiful rural country-side of China. But you should visit the urban city too. They are beautiful too !!!
Thanks Kat! Love how you tell a story of a place, and your wonderful editing skills. Jia yoe🥰👍👍👍

A 108RMB roasted chicken, which is $15 per whole chicken, surprisingly feels expensive.😅
这个价格太夸张了😂😂😂
土鸡就是这个价,这估计还不是真土鸡,真土鸡得150以上。土鸡=散养超过1年以上的走地鸡。
On the topic: rural China is authentic as it could be... 🤗
New subscriber. Tried you out after recommendation by brilliant analyst. He was right you're delightful.
Bring them back!
小姐姐春天快乐,你说的对,这个季节谁还在家休息,我一个月都要去西湖十几次。
It’s lovely 🎉 thank you👍🏻

晚上好🌛
Hi Katherine .....very interesting as usual ! What are the night attractions ? Certainly worth a visit.
Thanks
thanks for supporting the channel ❤️
this is good one .
It is great she is showing these places that foreigners cannot go to in China. Hotels and such have to be approved to let foreigners stay.
I was at the stunningly beautiful Hongcun village last month. Maybe I will go again in the evening with all the lights aglow.
