I honestly really love what Nerf is doing with their new Gelfire blasters. Metal barrels, 200 FPS out of the box, great shell design, and a hop up! I may just need to pick one up for myself.
Damn this review got here quick! Great review, this is definetly a step in the right direction for Nerf Gelfire (and Nerf in general). Hopefully the other Gel blasters are up to this standard.
Great review! I'm still not sold on the Gelfire line (or gel blasters in general), but this is definitely a step in the right direction. Gives me hope for the teased half dart announcement from a few days ago.
I really like your reviews, you're more about seeing the positives rather than some who constantly see negatives after all a lot of R&D go into these products.
Thanks! I try to be objective, but I'm naturally a positive, optimistic person! Really, I hope to give enough information so that everyone can form their own opinion! :)
Nice!! Definitely not the most practical thing, but the profile and hop-up make it really interesting! Especially at that price! I'd love to hear your thoughts once you get your hands on it!!
Thanks for hopping on these reviews! Great to see them in hobby hands already, and have some questions immediately answered. Is it alright if we use a couple chronograph clips from this review in this week's PNNN episode? Credited and linked of course. -KT
As i said on your other vid some harder gels would be awesome in this i bet you'd see 230+ fps with them and yes hopups are a must for gel blasters and help bigtime only difference from airsoft style ones is gel blaster ones have to go at the end of the barrel instead of in the chamber
If literally any company could figure out how to make a lightly threaded, or shaped barrel that could maybe even use hardened polymer balls to withstand the higher stress/velocity, a competitive gel sniper would absolutely be market viable. Some already exist but their accuracy is so bad they may as well just be considered single pellet shotguns. But nerf seems to have recognized what some areas of the market are looking for. I just want to see their take on a gel ball heavy weapon, something like Prometheus, but with an output/capacity to dwarf the competitive market.
Foam Quest, did you have any issue with the barrel extension turning the gellets into confetti consistently? My barrel extension is unusable as the vast majority of shots turn into confetti, and the few that exit intact get ridiculous hop up spin in every direction other than straight. The base blaster performs properly without the extension. I'm trying to figure out if I got a dud and should exchange for another or just return it outright for the Raid, which looks like a lot of fun. The Ghost's bolt action and sights were very satisfying to plink with, however, and I'd like to get a working one rather than abandon it outright. Also, like the Legion, the Ghost can be shotgun loaded by pulling the priming handle back about 1/4 to 1/3 of the way (so you don't hit the first catch that prevents pushing it back forward) and then releasing and repeating as many times as you want, although two to three gellets perform best. Doing this actually helped my barrel extension get one of the multiple down range without confetti-ing, for whatever reason. Also, hop ups are just as necessary for range and accuracy on gel blasters as they are for airsoft - a proper one makes a world of difference, you should look into them more if you haven't.
Hmm, interesting! I'm not having the same issue. I'm not sure why this is happening to you! If you look at your extensions hop-up, are there any sharp excess pieces of plastic visible? As far as returning it, do whatever you feel is best! Is the Raid more fun to use? I like them both, but the Raid is certainly more unique in its firing!
@@foamquest Hey, thanks for the reply and info. I did open up the extension, removed the hop up and even tried sanding down the lower entry ramp as it has a hard edge where the gellets enter that I thought might be causing them to break apart - no luck. The hop up geometry squeezes the gellet progressively the further it goes through and I also tried sanding the entire lower smooth ramp a bit to decrease the squeeze as I thought that might be the reason for the inconsistent spin direction on the rare occasions that a gellet actually makes it through - also no luck. I'm definitely returning this unit, but as more reviewers get their hands on a Ghost I'll be paying attention to see if anyone else has the issue I was having. I'm also hoping an industrious modeler might design an entirely new drop-in hop-up that I could 3D print and install for improved performance over stock, as the hop up is easily removed as a single unit from the extension once it's been unscrewed and slightly pried apart. Perhaps by the time that happens retailers will have dropped the prices a bit as well, like happened on the Mythic and Legion, as I feel that all three new entries in the line would be the appropriate value at about $10 cheaper than MSRP. I saw a Dual Wield box in your Raid review, will we be seeing a review for it/them soon? I've been most curious about the Dual Wield as Hasbro notably hasn't made any FPS number a part of the marketing, which is a bit worrying.
Honestly most interested in the Shotgun (The Raid). Haven't really seen that sort of thing, and unlike the Ghost (Which the purpose of a gel blaster, higher FPS options facilitate shooting further usually). Shotguns however aren't really a thing, and yeah full-auto is a thing, but that sort of is a straight line usually, not a spread unless you move the blaster between shots.
Yeah, that shouldn't ordinarily happen? Were the rounds completely hydrated? On a fully functional Ghost, that's the only variable I can think of that could have the effect you describe. Unless, of course, your model has a defect.
The priming is really light considering it shoots up to 200 fps… compared to something like the Raid which was a pain in the rear to prime when I first got my hands on it Yes I’m pretty weak, but still!!
great review. We dont have any of the GelFire line sold here. Anyways, I think youshould lessen the hand wavings in your video, kinda distracting. hehehe. Hope to see more videos
Maybe after we get all parts of full loadout we will get foam darts line from nerf pro with Similar system smg shutogun ect then end its sad but cool and probably not True cuz nerf wont make 150 fps Stock dart blasters or half Length dart
With the barrel on, probably between 90 and 120 feet (maybe a bit further sometimes). But I haven't done any exact measuring. This is just a rough estimate! Also, keep in mind this is maximum range, not necessarily effective range! :)
Well when u buy everything from this line u will have full loadout Ghost primary sniper Raid primary/secondary shotgun Mythic primary/secondary smg 2 random small Pistols secondary Legion secondary pistol
When See that u are Reading that i gonna give u more notifications >:) What ya think abot gel blasters as a whole for me its middleground between airsoft and paintball u can have realistic models and ppl cant really hide hits bc some of gel will remain on shirt or smth
As someone who has been using standard Nerf blasters for years, I just think they're interesting! They're definitely not replacing my love for standard dart blasters, but I certainly don't hate them! They're cool in their own right!
@vers-over1886 Hmm, that should work. Maybe let them go overnight to ensure that it's not a hydration issue. I've heard that sometimes actual time varies depending on the water you're using! If that doesn't work, there's a possibility that something is up with your blaster. Try my recommendation and let me know what happens! :)
This baby is just screaming for an auto-cocking mod. Looks like there's even plenty of room in that stock for batteries. Might have to pick one of these up just for tinkering.
I'm not really feeling this one, I just feel like you'll get obliterated if you brought this into a gel blaster war. The duel wield, the shotty raid, and the mythic or its beast variant would be more than ideal to go into battle with and handle any obstacles and just destroy your competition. For $50 bucks, I think imma pass on this one. You just gotta be a sniper lover to want and get this in my opinion and they do exist so.
Disappointed in the blaster or the review? 😅 Yeah, I haven't done a 100% accurate range test, but thanks to the hop-up, it will easily achieve over 120 feet flat! (Impressive stuff!) I can also hit a person sized target pretty consistently from 50 feet!
The ghost and gel blaster surge are the only ones you should get. The gel blaster surge is better than the mythic, don't need pump action if you have a full auto surge and no one needs a springer when the surge exists. Tldr: buy a gel blaster surge or the ghost (only if you like snipers tho, the surge is still the better option)
The Nerf GelFire line is meant to hew more closely to foam Nerf releases, that is to say, they're somewhat of a toy, not meant to be compared to serious gel blasters for competitive use. That's why each entry has a unique feature/gimmick, like many foam Nerf blasters have had. I personally enjoy the direction they're going with GelFire; Foam Quest made a good point in that every manufacturer just seems to be producing the same type of automatic blasters over and over, and while they have a place, having a 5 gel shotgun, a "sniper", a pair of double-action pistols, an SMG and a slamfire pistol is much more interesting, even if their performance isn't at the ceiling. As a springer, it should be relatively easy to replace the spring with a more powerful one as well, since there are no gears to worry about stripping or having to replace with stronger metal ones.
I honestly really love what Nerf is doing with their new Gelfire blasters. Metal barrels, 200 FPS out of the box, great shell design, and a hop up! I may just need to pick one up for myself.
Yeah, for sure! It's a lot of fun to use!
Definitely don’t get a nerf brand. There’s way cheaper but better options if you want a gel gun
I’m well aware, I’m just saying this one is a big improvement over the Mythic and Legion
@@mr.wublin ok. I got the X-shot gel gun, the one that’s $50. And it’s way better then the nerf Mythic that is $55
@@MasterBlakeYTthis one is 50 and its better than the mythic
Yup, the barrel extension does provide a hop up, it really does flatten out your shots and gets you some distance.

Your reviews and blaster testing are so thorough. Very helpful for someone like me just getting into gel blasters.
I'm so glad they're helpful to you! That's what I strive for when making these reviews!
Very detailed look, thank you.
Phenomenal review. I ordered one Cyber Monday $29.99! Thanks FQ!
Nice!! Definitely not the most practical thing, but the profile and hop-up make it really interesting! Especially at that price! I'd love to hear your thoughts once you get your hands on it!!
Thank you for this review! It helps to see the pros and cons of this weapon, along with it firing before I spend around $30-$40 on it.
I'm glad you found my review helpful!
Great review. Thank you for this. Yes, I hope some of these characteristics carryover in to their Dart blasters
Yep! That would be phenomenal!
If the teased half dart proline nerf might release next month comes close to this it will be insane
I like the positive sound it makes when you cock the bolt backward and forward.
This just randomly showed up on my recommended.
I am satisfied
That's the best thing a creator could hear! Glad you found it enjoyable! :)

Awesome! Can't wait to read your Blaster Hub review!
Haven't you noticed the barrel for ghost is an extended nerf hand cannon barrel
Is the rail a standard N-Strike/Rival rail or picatinny-compatible? Or is it completely proprietary? Thanks for getting a review out so soon!
