How To Survive a Zombie Apocalypse by Gary P. Gilroy & Aaron Hines

- Our culture has certainly seen a surge in monster enthusiasm, but groaning and dragging a decayed foot into first place is undoubtedly the zombie. Popular not because of the monster itself, but the theoretical situation it places humans. With a tongue firmly placed in cheek, Gary's menacingly-playful soundtrack is simply genius. Weather you want to pit guard against band, or use extras for a dramatic twist on typical marching band, this simple tale of survival will be a blast for your staff, students and audience.

This is giving me terrible flashbacks to band camp.
+Penguinlover555 Band camp flashbacks are the best kind!
What about Vietnam flashbacks?
Esteban Wants to Die Too far dude
Same, we are doing this show in our band rn, in fact I just got home from band camp
My highschool band played this last year with an add-on of thriller at the end where the band attacked the guard. Me being one of two guard guys, screaming at a high pitch wasn't all that easy.
Wow, that sounds really fun and exciting! What a great addition!
Gary P. Gilroy Publications :O You responded
MY BAND WAS DEBATING ON THIS OR BASEBALL! ;-; we got baseball, tho its fun with the bats/swing flags/and wooden poled flags, id rather this definitely
I marched this my Sophomore Year, and I thought it was the coolest thing ever.
Battery percussion is pretty sick in this piece. I played it as a freshman, and as a senior, I still like to go back and play it. (Along with Timepiece).
We are playing at the Sugar Bowl in New Orleans in December and I am so excited!!!!
Wow, that's really cool! What an honor!
Union Grove High School my senior year we performed this show. Absolute goosebumps every time I hear this
I'm a senior this coming up school year I played this show my freshman year and I loves it it's the best show I ever played and always will be the judges loves it
The first show is always a memorable one! Have a great senior year!
My first High School GPG show, followed by Rise of the Samurai Warrior and then by Spartacus. Now that I have graduated I can't wait to hear this years show Pyramids of Egypt, GPG music has inspired me to become a composer to go along with me teaching in the future, will definitely hope to use some GPG shows for any band I may be lucky to teach!
We played this as our show my Junior Year of high school back in 2013; we had to rename the show Contagion, though, because the band director thought the original title was a tad long. xD
Sounds fair-it can be a bit of a mouthful to announce!
Awww I think the original title is very catchy. I'm glad my son's band director kept it as is. The announcers and audiences reaction to just the title alone was great to see! At the end of the piece one of the zombie dressed cologuards grabs a sword runs and stabs one of the drum majors and takes over conducting! The crowds reaction to that was priceless each time because no one was expecting that. ua-cam.com/video/6giR2B4V3-k/v-deo.html
Really hoping to play this next year for an October football game.
This always my senior year show a couple years back
Im playing this show this year as a freshman and I love!
My brother is also the drum major this year
Lol we did it that long ago too in my freshmen year rn and this kids brother was the drum major too
Ahh I really love this show music. I’ve been listening to all of the GPG shows and I’m glad I came across this one! I am just in love with the second mvt. The pit percussion, with the woodwinds and trumpet solo is everything😍 I think the music as a whole really depicts the zombie vibe well. It’s hard to explain and I applaud Gary P Gilroy and Aaron Hines for being able to give the idea of a Zombie Apocalypse a sound. I think it sounds beautiful... mystical. A little sad even. I really really like it.
I go to Millard south and we listened to Lincoln high play this in Clarinda, IA last night and it must have been hard to chose who would be the winner. We got first place!!! We played A Brave New World and it sounds amazing!!!
Congratulations!
This was my first time in a matching show and I was in the Pitt. For the choreography the zombies in pit were able to climb on top of barrels during the performance and play cymbals. It felt really cool and I loved how everything sounded
Performing it this year and I'm so excited!
We're excited for you, too! Have a wonderful season!
Hastings is going to play this song this year
Hobbs high band will be performing this.
Very cool! Be sure you're prepared for the outbreak of zombies-they could be lurking anywhere!
Yes we will!

My son's highschool marching band performed this, this past fall in 2022. Was awesome! The cologuard and pit dressed as zombies. This is the link to their performance at WSMA State Marching Championship👇🏼 ua-cam.com/video/6giR2B4V3-k/v-deo.html

Hi this was the show for my high school in 2019 (my freshman year) I played rack for this because i was really bad and now im going to college for music, marched snare my senior year and will be doing DCI and WGI because i love marching band, I just wanted to thank you for making the piece that made me dedicate my heart to music and marching band. I wanted to ask if there was a way i could purchase or obtain just the drumline snare part for this show? Ive just always wanted to learn it especially the drum break and i know now i can read the music and play it. Thank you Gary!
Is there any way i can access a score without buying the song so i can practice for drum major auditions?
Or if i can purchase a "sample score "?
Send us an email at admin@gpgmusic.com!
