    Hi John, a spectacular month for solar generation, 915.2, 2021(691.4). Exported 354.9. However my consumption was 1.3Mwh (up from830.7 last year.) Reasons Im heating the HW by EDDI, We used our portable AC unit on many days/nights and charged the cars more as we increased our use. Also the last two weeks while very hot were very cloudy!

      That is impressive, nearly a third more than 2021. At least you know where your extra usage has gone to and the reasons why. Makes it somewhat more palatable. Thanks for watching.

    Hi John many thanks for your data filled update. We have just had our 2nd best August in 10 years in that we generated 814kWh being half a kWh down from our first year number. Unfortunately SSE are not responding to my FIT request they now owe £978, I started their complaints procedure on the 17th August and still no response. We had the Tesla Powerwalls removed as we are moving, the new people did not want them. We will install them at the new address, using economy 7 and then connect a solar system in the new year.

      I'm pleased to hear August was good for you too.
      Most odd that your new occupants didn't want the Powerwall, are they mad! Good idea to move them and re-install them though, a bit of bother and cost, but there's a 12 month waiting list for new Powerwalls here in the UK, so you've done the right thing.

      @@johntisbury yes we had to wait over a year to have them installed. We are moving out of an EPC A100 rated property and look forward to bringing the next property up from a D rate.

    Hi John it was a good month for most people I would think, my stats for a 4 kw system (3.6 kw grid tie inverter) were 550.8 kwh, best day was the 10th with 24.7 kwh and worst day was the 25th with 4.3 kwh. I have an I-Boost for the water heating which diverted 90 kwh into the immersion heater. I exported 333 kwh to the grid and imported 235 kwh over the month. Like you my tariff has ended and I have renewed on Go. My unit cost's are 39.35 day rate and 7.5 night rate for a 4 hour window.

    • @johntisbury
      @johntisbury  2 роки тому

      Thanks Mark, good output from your system too, that's great to see. Good stats on the iBoost too, you use more hot water than us I guess to pump 90kWh into it.

    • @5kram

      @@johntisbury My hot water is not a standard immersion cylinder, living in a bungalow I had it converted to a open vented thermal store system so that I can have mains pressure hot water. The immersion element is midway up the cylinder but it holds 215 Litres which is heated to 70C and the water is thermostatically blended to 55C seems to put a 3kwh a day into the immersion heater.

    Hi John
    August results for Spalding South Lincs. August was a record month for us with the original 3 kw array posting it’s highest production since install in 2012. With the combined 4.3 array now producing over 500 kw 5 months in a row we have had an exceptional spring and summer.
    Actual figures are combined arrays production 537.7, grid use 1.7, to grid 172.6, ) we too had the car full) consumption 338.2p with 130.4 of that being to the car via Zappi surplus solar. 511 miles in the car. 99% self powered with, according to the Tesla app, a £42 cost saving. Best days 6th,10th and 12th with 24.2, worst 17th with 4.0. Overall combined array efficiency 118%. 104 from Powerwall, gas use 10m3 as we have no hot water cylinder to divert any solar surplus too.
    Hope you get your optimiser sorted soo, I didn’t realise the whole string would get effectively knocked out. We did think about fitting them to our newer array as the main house roof does shade them but our installer said we would get little benefit and optimiser use sometimes created more trouble than they were worth. Nothing we have seen since has said we were wrong in our decision not to have them.

    • @johntisbury
      @johntisbury  2 роки тому +1

      Thanks Lynn for watching. Great to hear you have had 5 bumper months. Good stats and 99% self-powered is a great achievement.
      Normally 1 optimiser down would not impact the rest of the string, that's the whole idea of them. However, because ours seemed to be leaking voltage SolarEdge decided to turn off the whole array to prevent any possible damage. If we have another one go down then I will certainly pull the lot and put up with reduced performance.

    Hello John. In nearby Huntingdonshire, old (nearly) 4kW SW array produced 470kWh and newer 3kW SE array produced 389kWh. No problems (so far) with SE solaredge installed in Jan 2020. I have noticed that the "old" 2011 stringed array wakes up on dull days at a lower light level than the solaredge system. Your peak generation graph ... is the vertical scale Watts (certainly not kWh!!!) ? I'm not looking forward to next March when our long term fix ends ... especially the jump in daily standing charge that all seem to demand nowadays. Also busy stacking the wood for the woodburner and darning the thermal underwear 😉. Will have to suggest thermals and 1 storage heater to the American tenant rather than t-shirt and 2 storage heaters when it gets colder.

    • @johntisbury
      @johntisbury  2 роки тому

      Thank you, corrected the title on the peak generation, although kWh would be nice.
      Agree about adjusting lifestyle and approach to energy usage. Give your tenant the option; pay more to cover the increase in energy costs or wear thermals.
      Good to hear you SolarEdge system is okay, perhaps we just had a duff optimiser or the pigeons have sabotaged it.

      @@johntisbury We had jackdaws dropping sticks down behind that array on the garage, knowing that some would get caught and they'd eventually have a platform for a nest ... but we were able to periodically clear the sticks away. We were worried that something could get damaged, either by the jackdaws or by our actions! Renewed the tenancy in May for a 12 month period, and can't change the rent until next May ... but he's a good chap and I'm sure (having a place of his own in Kent) that he understands the need to reduce unnecessary energy usage.

      The pigeons are now scared of me and fly away from the panels when I approach. However, it does not prevent them from sneaking under the panels when I'm not there! I may have to move outside permanently.

    Hello John, 483 kWh for August from 3.99 kWh system. Had a few overcast days here in Dumfries and Galloway. Watched your piece about Solar Edge and checked the app straight away! All good here after nearly 4 years, I will let you know if I have a similar problem. My bill for August gas and electricity was £35.17. Hope this is informative.

    Those narrow country lanes scare the bejesus out of me, the margin for error is SO small on those roads.

    • @johntisbury
      @johntisbury  2 роки тому

      Yes they are rather tight, speed is not your friend on those narrow lanes.

    • @grahamreed8423
      @grahamreed8423 2 роки тому

      I spend several weeks a year in the Roseland, South Cornwall. The majority of EVs are much wider than the ICE cars of 10 to 20 years ago, I've found it hard to identify an EV with sufficient range that will fit the notoriously narrow lanes. The most suitable car for me appears to be the new Kia Niro EV, at 1.82m wide. Even considered keeping a cheap ICE runabout there for use in the summer.
      Does nobody else see this as an issue?

    • @johntisbury
      @johntisbury  2 роки тому +1

      All modern cars are wider than their counterparts from years ago. A great example is the Mini. An original looks like a toy compared to a modern one. VW Golf, Fiat 500 are other examples. Cars have grow massively in girth, but as you say road widths, parking spaces and street furniture has not changed. The EVs are built against modern standards, jigs and standards. If you want a long range then you will get bulk I'm afraid. There are small EVs like the VW Up, Renault Zoe, BMW i3 or Honda E, but they have smaller range. We find out secondhand 2015 Zoe is perfect for a daily runabout with a 90 mile range. If the car is based down there then do you really need the range?

    Hi John, have you logged in to the solaredge portal via a pc web browser? You get more options that way compared to the app or phone browser. Check you're an administrator, if not log a call to get that access. You may then be able to see more information on the fault and when it started.

      I cannot disagree with you Mark. It does include painting and installation. Paint prices are horrendous to be fair. It does focus the mind on preventing any damage to your car. When I spoke to the lady yesterday her parts were on back order so she's having to wait for her parts to be fitted too. I guess that will have cost her near £800 by the time she has finished.
