Thank you so much Vanessa! I'm sure that sooner or later you will start to use all your supplies. I'm convinced that the best pictures we can get by combining various mediums, so you have a lot of fun ahead of you experimenting with all your supplies
I sat here with my mouth open. You are amazing. Just breathtaking. I’m struggling with feeling hopeless and inadequate now but you are giving me something to aim at. I bow to your talent Alena.
This was awesome. You are my favorite artist on UA-cam. There is noone better . I'm blown away with your talent. God BLESS you always. Thanks for sharing. Great great awesome BEAUTIFUL!!!!
Alena, love your style of coloring backgrounds and animals and flowers , love your videos. Hope you are safe, very sorry what’s happening to your country, prayers for all of you in Ukraine.
I could stare at all your colored images backgrounds and all! I would love to know what makes you choose the colors, style, designs or inspiration making the layout of your backgrounds. Truly, your colored/painted images are true works of art. Th am you for sharing so clearly a lot of information of your many mediums of experience you gained in making the backgrounds. 🙏🏻
Thank you for showing us your work and giving an in depth commentary on how you approach your color work and how to use different mediums. You make many good points and was NOT babbling! Most of all you let us know that it takes a lot of time and practice and hard work to achieve such an impressive level of ability.
Thank you, I'm glad that it was helpful! What I was trying to explain, is that during my first year of coloring backgrounds terrified me and only with time and practice I started to fell more confident, so people don't have to be discouraged by their first failed attempts.
I have always admired your backgrounds Alena, those exquisite marbled finishes are my favourites, and even your simplest ones are well thought out. Any words on how you produce them is always informative, but even if it wasn't, I would still watch the whole way through just to see again your beautiful colourings!
Thank you! I always remember how terrified I was as a beginner when I needed to do something with the background. Now I feel more confident but still each time background is a challenge because it's such an important part of the coloring...
Thank you so much for this video and your beautiful art. As a beginner, I was seeing so many beautiful backgrounds and not sure which mediums were being used to achieved the different effects and this video really helped me with that! Also, I didn't find any comment with timestamps, maybe this will help someone (and myself as I might watch this video again in the future 😁): 0:39 soft pastel 6:28 acrylic paint 10:56 gouache 11:30 neocolor ii 14:42 watercolor 20:30 regular pencils
Your pictures are all so beautiful! Very good information. I agree with soft pastel background being the easiest for beginners. It's the first different thing I tried after pencil. Another benefit it it saves your pencils.
I agree with you - soft pastel is easy for beginners because you can do background very quickly, can use it on any paper and easily erase it if something goes wrong. It looks much better also comparing to backgrounds made with uneven and untidy huge pencils strokes.
Wow! You are unbelievably talented!😃 I just didn't want this video to end. I could look at your finished pages all day. They're so beautiful! Just...wow! Good for you! I only wish I could do what you're able to do! Thank you for sharing.
This video was certainly not boring. The Information you shared was so helpful . Thank you so much for doing this video and sharing both your knowledge and your beautiful pictures Take care
Not boring at all. I've been coloring for about two and a half years and have yet to tackle a background. I am going to do it on the page I'm doing now in one of Maria Trolle's books. I was researching and I saw this. I should've known you had covered this. Thank you for your wonderful instructions and beautiful colorings. Happy New Year, btw. May this year bring peace to Ukraine 🇺🇦
Your coloring is so very beautiful! Your video is very helpful. I have not finished backgrounds because of worry to ruin the page! I have pastels and gouache and I. Use Prismas so I will start there. Thank you!
Another great background option is to use dry gelatos rub them on acrlic block use a finger dauber to sponge up dry gelatos and use circular motion on paper. You get an effect similar to chalk pastel and they blend beautifully and you can layer pencil on top.
Your video was so informative and helpful. I am a beginner and love coloring. My dilemma is what background to use as a beginner and is it necessary to fill in all of the negative space. I am trying to decide on which soft pastels to purchase. There are so many choices and so many opinions. What to do? I will be watching more of your videos. Your pages are breathtaking.
Thankyou for an awesome video - you have given me lots of inspiration - your works are amazing. I have tried gesso for backgrounds and your right there is no added benefit. I also use distress ink and chalk ink for my backgrounds.
Alena, Thanks to you I have started to try to make backgrounds. I have Neocolor II crayons and you are right about practice. I would appreciate it if you could do some tutorials with different art mediums, especially Neocolor II backgrounds. I would like to know how to achieve the different types of textures that you have done in your pictures. I enjoy all your videos and have learned a lot from you and I look forward to viewing many more.
Neocolors definitely deserve not to be abandoned, they are such an interesting and versatile medium. I'm sure you will enjoy them! My first attempts with them weren't easy but then gradually I started to learn them better and started to appreciate how helpful they are in coloring books
You are the best colorer I have seriously ever seen. The cat with wings in Magical Dawn you passed briefly (at 12:50) & I was like OMG! All of them are just stunning!! I just subbed to your channel. I’m looking forward to learning from you!
Alena you are one of my favorite artists.. especially your backgrounds are beyond amazing. I've been searching your channel to try to find any videos of you using the watercolors, acrylic, and also the gouache paints you use in your backgrounds that you showed on this video. Also do you have any videos of you using the coliro watercolor paints? I will definitely will be becoming a patreon soon. Do you have a website as well? O want to buy the separate colors of gouache and acrylic paints to try to recreate what you did on your backgrounds in this video. It would be nice if you could recommend what colors I need and if you could point me to any videos with tutorials of the watercolor, gouache, or acycrlic backgrounds. I love your work but am new to these mediums and would love to learn your techniques for these different backgrounds. I learn by replicating and then once I get that down I can be free to do what pops in my head. It's weird but at night I see colors and visions put together but unless I write them down I can't remember them? And I don't know how to replicate them either. It only happens when I start coloring. I took a 5 year break from coloring and I use to get these patterns and beautiful color schemes in my head at night when laying down to sleep. They just flow. Now that I've started coloring again its happening again. I know it's the weirdest thing but I wonder if this happens to anybody else? Anyway any help you could give me would be wonderful. You are one of the most talented artists I have seen and you do all sorts of mixed media wonderfully. Thank you for your inspiration and help.
All your pages are very beautiful. Do you have a workshop or videos where you teach background techniques ? I would love to take classes with you because I never know exactly what to do when I get to the background part of my colorings. Thank you for sharing, I appreciate it.
I have videos for all my colored pictures, where I show how I do both backgrounds and main image. I don't know if I can call them special background workshops, they are simply my processes of coloring.... Here ua-cam.com/video/RTa_3A7sspE/v-deo.html I show how I did Neocolor background, here ua-cam.com/video/Krh57NJQ9-g/v-deo.html I talk about my difficulties with neocolor backgrounds. Your coloring is stunning! Thank you for sharing. I need to practice with all these mediums. The only thing I seem to be good at is buying supplies.

Your colouring is phenomenal; the Basford and Karlzon books don't appeal to me as colouring books, but I'd love a copy of yours already coloured in.
