  • Tayberries are easy to grow and establish quickly forming a vigorous vine which fruits on the stems grown from the crown the previous year. Fruited stems die the following winter and should be removed with the new stems replacing them on the supports for the next crop.

Thanks for the info. Tayberries are pricy here in the states. I will be potting them up for the market.

Hi, how much do you space them apart?

I planted Tayberries last year but didn’t get any fruit (maybe too late) this year I have new growth from the base. I planted them on open ground with a fence for support. Do you think it was too cold/windy for them and that’s why it died? Wondering if I need to offer more shelter. Many thanks 😀

It may have been too exposed for them . Ours are planted on a sunny sheltered wall and they love it. I would wait and see how it goes this year as it may have just been the plants had not established last year.

Trying to grow them in the Eastern US. Hopefully our hot, humid summers aren’t too much for them.

I have never had a tayberry plant before and not had any fruit yet. Hoping this second year will produce. My tayberry has lost a lot of its leaves , is this normal. I have propagated 4 new plants with tip layering but they look a bit thin and weak. hope they survive. Just subscribed.

Yes they drop their leaves and fruit in year 2 on last years stems.
I would prune the rooted cuttings hard back over the winter to encourage strong new stems the following spring, and plant them in their final position when they start to grow.
