David and Rick harmonizing; beautiful. David once described Echoes as a musical conversation between him and Rick. The middle part reminds me of an undersea journey; whales speaking. A brilliant piece of music.

Echoes was used as the soundtrack of a movie called Crystal Voyager In the early 70s … earliest footage of waves, camera strapped to a surfer’s back, with beautiful slow motion sequences like the insides of "tubes". The whale effects really came into their own with these images.

The song Echoes holds a pretty special place in my heart. It's the song that made me realize that Pink Floyd weren't just a great band with some classic albums. They were simply one of the best musical acts ever created, behind maybe only the Beatles. Roger even payed homage to them in this song.
The Beatles - Across The Universe: "Sounds of laughter shades of life are ringing through my open ears inciting and inviting me"
Pink Floyd - Echoes: "Cloudless everyday you fall upon my waking eyes, Inviting and inciting me to rise"

I agree. The Beatles are the greatest band of all time and Pink Floyd is a very close second. Roger Waters is my favorite songwriter and David Gilmour is my favorite guitarist. The only thing keeping The Beatles ahead imo is the fact that they were the best in the world immediately while Floyd took some time to find their sound and truly become dominant. Floyd's streak of DSOTM, WYWH, Animals, and The Wall is the greatest peak in musical history though.

Pink Floyd have create many Songs that by Masterpieces, but for me "echoes" was the Song that is on Top off all. The lyrics and the composion are absolutely unmachted. It is the highest piece of Art in Musikbuisness and History. When People listen to it in 100 or 1000 Years, they will blown away, it is timeless. This Musik is from another World and tear out your Soul and penetrate it and but it back to your Body. I´m a Pink Floyd fan for decates and "echoes" is the crown jewel auf the entire Music History. Absolutely exceptional.... No other Band can compare with Pink Floyd, they at the same level than Bach, Beethoven or Mozart.... Greetings from germany

I saw the Floyd live three times in the 70s and Echoes was performed as the encore on each occasion. I ended up in aural ecstacy every time the band hit the crescendo after the long run-out from the 'scary' sequence. The band tapped into something metaphysical when they recorded this track, and amazingly were able to reproduce it in concert. Truly timeless.

For me, the studio original is the definitive version of this track but I find the video versions at Pompeii and Gdansk to be as entertaining because of both the video component and the improv at times. I saw this live in Boston Garden in 1975 and it was epic, with Gilmour sitting next to his special effects rack and sending us into space. Dick Parry also adds some cosmic sax to that performance, you can hear the shows I saw there in 75 & 77 on YT. Echoes was the last song played on innumerable Saturday nights back in the day. This song has got to be one of the best musical pieces in the history on man's existence! Enjoy. 🎵🎸🎤🎹🎷🎶

At the end of Atom heart mother Pink Floyd predicts their music for the next decade. You hear sounds in a proto form for echoes and DSOTM along with others. When I first listened to Meddle I was flabbergasted upon hearing echoes and those sounds expanded and refined. What a Band!. They are the one and only in my book.

A cosmic--not to say cosmological-epic meditation that bends the mind, heart and soul. A psychedelic spiritual so beautiful it hurts. By the way--and FYI-- the line 'inviting and enticing me' is an homage to John Lennon's line from his masterpiece 'Across the Universe' released a year earlier on the Beatles 'Let it Be' album. Pink Floyd were huge Beatles fans throughout their career.

16.00 yeeah, that scary part tipped my trip over to the dark side somewhat, as I vividly remember whenever I hear it. It was the 1st time I'd heard it whilst tripping. Fortunately we had really great acid "babysitters" who got me past it. Phew though, bad 5 minutes (felt like days) there.

I have a similar tale, one of a couple times I had a bad experience was partly the screaming sounds appearing just as I'm feeling some real effects and off I went, the end of the song calmed me down. 70s were a crazy time!

@@DawnSuttonfabfour For me, I had separate experiences with Blotter Acid, both times I saw Pink Floyd in the 70s I was doing it, also had sugar cubes laced with it, that was a real wild trip and Echoes, King Crimson's debut album, Frank Zappa's Hot Rats and Spirit's The 12 Dreams of Doctor Sardonicus were big reasons why, LOL! I also had small pills once with it. I lastly had small wax paper squares called window pane but was a pain to cut, it was 4 way and I did a half, more than enough, my friend did 2 whole squares and freaked out, he was never really the same after and died way too young from heroin. I never did it, he scared me. My acid and hard drug days are long in the past, a little cannabis does me now. Enjoy!

The screeching guitar are perfectly mimicking seaguls.
People from the coast or boaters know all about it.

As with most music, we all sense our own personal meanings generated by our deepest feelings and thoughts.
Not sure about reincarnation, but I think the title says it all.... ECHOES CHOES Oes oes oes s s s
The constant repetition of OUR mistakes or life’s mistakes.
Every generation is an ECHOE of the previous generations.
Only a conscious thought and human endeavour can change the echoe......BUT, can life sustain itself without greed, avarice, jealousy and spite ?
Can life endure if it loses its purpose to survive, reproduce and strive for perfection.
We should learn from the wolf pack, not the ant colony or bee hive.
Can WE prosper indefinitely by expending our resources on survival of the weakest, while the strongest and smartest are burnt out protecting the weak ?
    I think not...........
