probably because, Doomguy is more menacing along with the soundtrack, with the super shotgun and the fact that he isn't made out to be some guy wanting out to get out of Hell as soon as possible, he wants to get back IN as soon as possible
I've done a lot of research lately into Bobby Prince and the music he made for this game. While some tracks are almost direct covers like Barrels O' Fun being Them Bones by Alice In Chains, I don't see the exact similarity everyone seems to be obsessed with espousing for certain tracks especially this one. Both this and Shawn's Got The Shotgun definitely are inspired by Hangar 18 and South Of Heaven but they aren't as exact of covers as some of the other stuff he did. Sure the drums and other parts are exact but the overarching theme of the songs feel very different to me. The reason I mention this mainly is because to me there is something definitely special about the Bobby Prince inspirations of these songs even when put side by side to what inspired them.
What the part of this track after 2:00 *is* reminiscent of is his work on Duke Nukem II. Which, oddly enough, you don't hear much of on the Doom soundtracks. Mostly he went for a pretty different tone.
This is "Doom Eternal at Home" and im ok with that heck id love to see how would Eternal's Main theme works with this song's instruments also Underrated compared to At Doom's Gate
I'm a bit confused about this. The MIDI version I used to hear playing Doom didnt have the quality this song has. Maybe because I used to play on DOS? Both Windows and DOS had MIDI playback capability but used different tracks? Just curious.
Don't take my word for it, but this sounds a lot like they have been using a Roland MT32 soundcard rather than an adlib compatible like Sound Blaster. It is definitely not because it is the Win 95 version like the other dude said. :)
Hmm, were the Rolands still around back in the day of Win 95? I'm no PC sound expert at all and honestly I have no idea which sound card my computer had back then, but I'm pretty sure it was on-board. I've played Doom both on DOS and Win98 and they had music, but not like this.
caiocollalto Yeah, they were, but they were expensive. I would hazard a guess that you had an adlib compatible like Sound Blaster or similar, that one was far more common than most others. Any onboard or generic soundcard would most likely using that system. If you check out youtube + watch?v=uo51kLdNkoQ , this is probably more like what your game sounded like at the time :)
