- DIY GIANT WOOD CHRISTMAS STAR
I actually filmed this wood star video about 2 years ago, but I published it as a compilation video of 5 Christmas Decorations you can Make at Home, but I think this giant wood star is SO cool, so I updated it to have a video all to its own! I made it as a holiday star, but it actually stays up on my house year round I love it so much.

After watching dozens of Star builds on youtube which did nothing but confuse me on the angles I fell back to yours. I started with a 1x4 but after experimenting on scrap wood I realized I could NOT make the 18 Degree cut on my miter saw (Not a sliding miter saw). Looked like the best I could do at that angle was a 2-inch wide board. OK so I ripped the 1x4 in half and made the cuts as you did. After cleaning up my mess (My wife is going to kill me as I did all the cuts on the front porch) I laid the pieces out and it looks like it is actually going to make a star. So since I ripped the 1x4 in half I guess I can now make 2. Thank you so much for EASY instructions. Merry Christmas!
I use the circular saw to cut the angle. May I double confirm if you cut each piece in 36 degree in one side, and 18 degree on the other side?
36 degree and 18 degree also parallel to 54 degree and 72 degree, is that right?
Love your videos, you seem so nice! Easy subscribe. This is such a fun project; although I'm a little scared because angles and I do not get along 😅
cool project. cut 10 pieces of wood all the same with the inside corners 36° and the outside angle at 18° with 1" pocket screws. Did you use 1x4?
love how you simplified it to one sentence! it really IS that easy! and yeah it was 1x4, but I used reclaimed stuff, so I planed it down a bit to 4"x1/2".
It looks nice. But the way you are doing your cuts wastes a lot of good material. It would be better to do the 36° cuts first and cut a boards 2x the length plus the thickness of the blade (all cuts parallel). In the middle devide that board with the 18° cut - that one you would likely have to do an a table saw or a band saw using a jig to get the 18° right.
That was really cool! Now if you could help me make a Star of David (Jewish) star I would love that. :) Then I could hang up for Chanukah. Thank you for sharing and posting that was truly awesome!! Jay
Helllo,
Thanks for the video. With the measurements that you used in this video, how tall overall is the star? I have to made a few 7ft stars as a back drop for our Graduation class, so I'm just trying to get sizes figures.
Love this star project! I made it last year and added lights during Christmas season. Thanks for revisiting it :)
thats awesome! it's one of my favs!
- VERY nicely done. Thanx 4 sharing.
I had issues with the pocket holes on the steep angle. What am I doing wrong?
Thank you for the simple explanation on these!
Yes Yes Yes!!! This is the video I was looking for 😊
I also have watched many video`s on stars and found them to be confusing. I am anxious to try your version. A great explanation and easy build...
i hope it works/worked for you!!
Amazing,,, thumb up...
Nice project ! I have noticed that many people use nails or screws to join up the pieces. I use wood glue only.
wood glue would be easy and likely work great for something like this that is not getting handled much or having wear and tear as it sits on the wall!
What size of wood?
I used 4"x1/2" cedar, but you should be able to use any size wood as long as your cuts/angles are all the same as mine.
What size saw do you have
Excellent ❤🎉
It's wondefull!
Hello there. Nice work.
How big is this star?
Heidi, I love this star. Good to see you again. I hope that all is well physically. Merry Christmas. Stay safe. Have you selected a name yet?
thank you! so far i'm feeling great and only a few more weeks to go :D we don't know if its going to be a boy or girl but we've got a girls name picked out, but still don't have a name for a boy!
@@TimberTea I'm glad to hear that you and the baby are doing well. I'm rooting for a baby girl. I'm thinking that the addition of a 'Heidi Junior' could only be a positive thing for our world.
Awesome
Thanks frank! It's so easy but makes such a big statement!
Great job
thank you! :D
Nice !;-)
thanks Irvin! I love this giant star!
