    After two tours to Iraq as a rifleman in the USMC... I'm leaning on the AK. The AR is probably superior in most ways really and I love mine, but for the things I worry about the most like reliability... I'll lean on my AKs.

      Fair enough. But I can say our m4’s are garbage. Mine and everyone else’s m4’s in 1-8 are pieced together not ever fully a m4 they were terrible. Personally take a good quality ar15 over the Ak as long as it’s a good brand can hold up great as well

      @@michaelpoole1247 I mean you're not wrong. I don't think someone is either wrong or right depending on what platform they roll with, as long as they put the time into running it well, and it's a rifle that's up to the task of what you're asking it to do.

      Edit: I should be more specific. A lot of times were would come across dudes' AKs, they would have burnt out barrels and rusted receivers, and just generally looked like crap but they ran. whereas my M16, just like my AR, it's not like it was crap, I just had to put a lot more consideration into its maintenance to ensure she ran. too little oil you might have issues after not too long, too much and all that moon dust ass sand would start to gunk shit up.

    I would keep the AR because I know it so well. 22 years,4 months and 11 days in the Marine Corp three tours in Iraq and Afghanistan. I always hear that the AK is more reliable than the AR. I'm not so sure. A little PM and both are very reliable. Poor cleaning and lube both will fail. I saw plenty of broken AK's in the sand. Legend and reality are much different than most think. Parts for the AR are much easier to source than AK parts here in the states. Military and prior military can repair the AR easier to faster than the AK. I think the AR is more accurate making kill shots at distance more likely. This is just my opinion, go with what you know and like. For me, it's the AR.

    Modularity-AR
    Weight-AR
    Replacement parts-AR, though ak won’t need many probably.
    Ammo pickups-AR
    Mag Pickups-AR
    Accuracy-AR
    Reliability- maybe a slight edge to AK but that’s very debatable especially in certain environments
    Cool factor-AK by a mile
    I love the AK. I bought my first ak mag in 2012 before I could even buy a gun because I knew I’d have an ak one day, but there are really no practical reasons to chose an ak over an AR in a shtf situation in America.

    Today you can get an Armalite chambered in 7.62x39mm. Getting the best of both worlds. And you get one chambered in .223 Wylde (Or 5.56NATO/.223 Rem. for the boomers) to go with same lower.

    The ar 15’s gas rifle system is the most reliable. It should be easier on your gun in a shft situation, you should take advantage of the full 20 inch system. if you’re concerned about reliability, you can also clean you rifles at the range to get an idea on how to properly maintain your rifles in the field and if you could do that I don’t see why a 20” system ar 15 wouldn’t work for long term shft

    Welcome to the most beat to death topic in the history of the shooting world. Like many people I own both and after decades of shooting both, in my opinion, they both have their advantages and limitations. In many respects it’s like Ford or Chevy it comes down to personal choice. Today’s AR-15 is more durable than they were 20 years ago. What it really comes down to is which one a person is the most capable with and the one they have the most confidence in.

    To me the more deadly bullet is a reason for choice over other choices. Why use more bullets to bring down a thug? The second choice for the AK is reliability. Many videos show how the third world countries have kids using it and are able to keep it in use during fights.

    Very good point about long term maintenance , the weight is a pain and the placement /balance of the weight is even more of a pain for me for the ak but the fact that when I take it apart to change things out or clean I can literally smack it with a 2x4 when I don’t have all the tools and it all works fine is what makes it a winner for me. I switched to 20 round pmags and now the balance is perfect for me and you’re absolutely right, I’m not taken targets out from hundreds of yards away anyways so more punch is best. But I would bring my ak and mosin cause that mosin will probably outlast even my ak.

    With some in depth thought on a one choice rifle and caliber. Hard to beat .30-06 and just one single bullet weight for the cartridge. Honestly though at this point I would probably take the AR-15 platform chambered in 6.5 Grendel.

  • @garrisonnichols807
    @garrisonnichols807 Рік тому +2

    Let's be honest here for the average person the AK is the superior rifle for a apocalyptic no more government or law enforcement for decades situation. You will have gangs robbing and trying to find their next victim to prey on and you won't have time or resources to clean your rifle. AR15 and 223 ammo will be long gone because the military would have used alot of them during WW3. Manufacturers won't be producing new parts lubrication or ammo for them so people will eventually have to go the AK route. But also the AK47 is just the better option for most people especially people who don't have much experience with firearms that you will have to train like friends and family members. The AK is the most popular rifle in the world and I bet even in the USA you will be able to find 7.62x39 long after America is gone.

    There are many legends out there about AK ans AR: Reportedly there are AKs out there that shoot sub-moa groups, I never saw that in reality, mine shoots 2.5 moa with the best ammo, also there should be ARs that fires 10000 Rounds without oiling and cleaning....maybe, but not in my experience. Some say an AK cannot shoot groups under 7 to 8 moa: nonsense! Some say an AR has an integrated jam-tool: nonsense! I think both are capable weapons, with a clear advantage in precision for the AR, especially at ranges above 300, a little advantage for the AK in reliability (if I think which rifle could perform 1000 shots without ANY problems, I would take the AK....)

    210 rounds of 7.62x39= 7.6lbs., 210 rounds of 5.56x45= 5.7 lbs. A difference of 1.9 lbs. This has forever been a ridiculous argument for the AR. I have rarely seen a person killed by an AR with one shot, so the need for more ammo increases with that bullet. With bullet weight being close but the need to use more 5.56, it really makes that whole concept invalid.

  • @brock3426
    @brock3426 10 місяців тому

    I like both,I would run both but that being said the reason I have both other than I like both. In time I think it be harder to find ammo for the ak after time. Since if it got really serious your not going to be able to run to the store and buy ammo. And since Biden already banned most ak ammo already coming into the country.ak might not be the best if your only choosing one.
